I've always been a writer. Ever since I could remember my biggest desire was to put words to paper. Finally my dreams of publication came true in 2002 with the release of Chase The Wind, the first book in my historical family saga. But I've also looked to the stars since I was a small girl. Which led to my writing of Futuristic Action Romance under the pen name Colby Hodge. And since I've got a knack for relating to teens, I also enjoy writing for them under the name Kassy Tayler.

And just so you know a bit about me. I've been married for several years to the man of my dreams. We've also raised two exceptional sons and enjoy life in the shadow of Pilot Mountain in NC where we share our home with a long haired dauschund and a cat who thinks she's the queen of the world.

Once in a great moon I stumble onto an amazing author that sweeps me off my feet.
Two authors in historical romance have kept me returning to their books, they feed my soul and transports my imagination into a realm like no others can touch.
Well now I have a new author to add to this small list.
Cindy Holby is spectacular, her detail in describing her characters, the landscape, and true emotions just blows me away.
Chase The Wind was so much more than I expected.
It’s a saga that will forever stay in my heart.
I was not prepared to be as swept away as I was with this book. Twists that were so unpredictable, a storyline that rivals some of the greatest sagas I’ve ever read, and a conclusion that left me breathless.
Cindy Holby now has this girl as a fan for a lifetime. She ranks right up there with my two favorite authors who can truly write in this genre.
A beautiful story of first love, tragedy, survival, and destiny.

Actual rating 2.5 ⭐. This was promising but lacked good writing. I managed to get about fifty percent before I just gave up as it dragged on and on. I dnf'd this and I doubt I'll try again.

It has been quite some time since I have read a book as emotionally charged as Chase the Wind. There were times when I would have to just lay the book aside and cry gut wrenching tears and other times when I wanted to shout in happiness for the ones in this book. I am glad I read this book but gosh do I feel worn from the roller coaster ride of the highs and lows of this book. This is one book full of such realistic events that are hard to bare and some that are completely wonderful. First Ian and Faith grab your heart and then Jamie and Jenny along with Chase take the reader on one wild horseback ride thru the valleys thru the mountain top highs along with a host of other memorable characters that will definitely be forever be ingrained in the reader’s Heart and Mind. Chase the Wind is book that I believe will hold a spot that will always be near and dear to my heart. A Wonderful Historical Western Romance that will definitely leave You feeling as if Chase the Wind is what you have been doing and not reading! A book definitely not to be missed but you better Saddle up Your Horses and pull the Cinch tight for its not a carefree ride

Jamie, Jenny and Chase's story

An intense, action packed, emotional wild ride. There is such a sweet love with Ian and Faith that carries forward to the twins, Jamie and Jenny. The tragic events in their lives bring them to the edge of breaking. The story covers 25 plus years. Chase the Wind has his own tragic beginning and the start of his relationship with the twins at the mission. Heartache, loss, a new home, reunion, dreams of a love, and a mentally unhinged revenge keep the heart thumping. The story is not for the overly sensitive. But, it is worth the read. The characters have depth and beating hearts. There is such a vivid picture painted by Cindy Holby that you can see all that is going on. The ride is worth it. Bring tissues.

This is one of my all-time favorite books. Though there are places that are very adult and romance-fiction material, this is a mostly historical western novel. It takes place in the United States, beginning in West(-ern) Virginia around 1860 and follows the affects of the curse of one man's hatred. This is a story of love and hate, and triumph and tragedy.

I wouldn't recommend this novel for anyone younger than 15, due to a few very sensual scenes and the horrors placed upon the main characters.

Very interesting romance novel. Star-crossed lovers escape in the nick of time from a fate worse than death. Told in three parts, which is very unusual. Sets the stage for the remaining character's stories.

This is my first book by Cindy Holby and it definitely won't be the last. HWR is one of my favorite genres and I can't believe I've found an author that I'm willing to put up near the top of my favorite authors. I was blown away by this book between its sweet love story as well as its gut wrenching events that are sure to make you cry or at the least make you hope for revenge. Orphans, cowboys, horses, a half-breed, and an evil evil man are a few of the things this book has to offer. Cindy Holby is an exceptional writer not only in her storytelling but in her ability to describe landscape, her characters, horses and all that she put into this book that you can easily picture everything as you read along. An all around excellent book.

This was a great read with a real western feel to it. Loved the characters and the adventures they went on, and hated the book's villain. I may be a little bias in my love for this book, since it takes place in historic Iowa (where I'm from) and the characters are horse-people (I love horses). If you aren't that into old-west type romances, this book wouldn't be for you, but it is exactly my cup of tea! The book is divided into three parts. Part 1 follows Faith and Ian's love story. Part 2 follows their children as young adults. Part 3 follows their kids as adults living out on their own. I haven't read a book that was divided up like that before, and it was interesting to read through, but I missed Faith and Ian after part 1. This book does have some violence, rape, and gore that the author goes into detail with, and it does make you cringe, so be warned about that.

Spoilers Ahead!

Part 1 was definitely my favorite part of the book. I absolutely loved Ian. I'm not sure if it was his love for horses, how gentlemanly he was toward Faith, or if he was just an Iowa boy that made me take such a quick liking to him, but he was truly a lovable hero! Faith started out as a little too helpless for me. If she was unhappy and scared she could have saved herself, not wait for Ian to magically show up and make things better as most romance heroes do. But Ian and Faith together had a beautiful love story. They had such a pure connection which made you believe they were true soulmates that would always belong together. The villain makes for some interesting obstacles through their story.

Part 2 definitely went by slowly. I was still missing Ian and Faith, and it seemed like Jamie and Jenny weren't making all that much progress through the book. They grew up a bit, but it took so long that I got bored.

Part 3 was interesting. I hadn't read a book before which follows a character from birth to adulthood. It was interesting to see Jamie all grown up, and how both he and Jenny matured and changed. Jenny's love story wasn't nearly as sweet as Ian and Faith's, but it was still nice to see her growing love. Jamie didn't hardly have a love story. The narration was basically just "oh, and Jamie is sleeping with this girl btw. Moving on.." The side characters were also fun to meet. The end of the book got pretty shocking But after that the book wraps up pretty quickly.

This book is part of a series that I am going to start following, but this could easily be its own story. Plenty of excitement!

My grandma apparently loved this book, so my mom passed it along to me after grandma’s death. I so wanted to like this!!

This book has issues, though it does have its charms. The characters are very likeable! But that leads to one of its issues- the pacing. This book just RACES through the decades. We had just gotten to know and love Faith and Ian and then boom on to some different characters. Time jumps are a standard in this book and often leave out some interesting events.

Another issue, this might just be me personally, or unused to this genre, but what is with this tragedy porn?? Could any more terrible shit have happened to these people? It’s not fun to read!!

Also just generally poorly edited, rife with typos and word substitutions (“delegated” instead of “relegated,” stuff like that), shifting perspective etc

Very well done! At first, I thought the story was about Ian and Faith, but was shocked at the turn of events. Interesting that the title character wasn't introduced until chapter 15. A wonderful story, but I wish it had ended with Jenny and Jamie knowing who Jason really was.

Wow. I read a lot of books, and only a small amount ever move me as much as this one did. So well written, the characters captivating, etc. This book had everything a historical/romance novel needed in it: Beautiful love stories, fast paced action sequences, heart-wrenching moments, and tender ones as well.
