Suzy Turner wrote her first chick lit novel in her early twenties, but it wasn’t until much later that she decided to focus on writing full time. It was during a visit to Canada in 2009 when the ravens within the dark eerie forests of British Columbia called to her. The story of Lilly Taylor was born soon after and the first novel in The Raven Witch Saga was created. Suzy has since published numerous urban fantasy books, contemporary women's and cozy mystery novels. Having lived in Portugal since childhood, Suzy, who is originally from Yorkshire in England, loves to travel. She finds inspiration wherever she goes. Old decrepit buildings, graveyards, cathedrals and castles are just a few of the things that can be found within the worlds of her urban fantasy books, and her contemporary women’s fiction novels are filled with fun friendships, ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances and quirky characters you’d want as friends. Suzy lives in the Algarve with her husband, three cats and a dog, where she works on her bookcover design business—creating book covers for fellow authors. Finally! The third and final installment of the Raven Saga.
Lilly is growing in power. December is discovering more of her abilities. Both seem to be falling in love. And there's a lost soul crying out for help.Lilly's father is still missing. Tiffanimelicomelea the displaced Faerie is lost from her faerie community while living with them in Powell River community. And it just might be that Powell River is sitting smack-dab in the center of all the answers.
This trilogy has delivered much more than lions and tigers and bears but sometimes it seems like it has a shred or two of oz built into it. Both the books and the movie. But there's so much more - pretty much any paranormal being you can imagine might show up here. The last of the story now is where most everything shall be uncovered and is by far no less than the rest of the series.
And, Yes. There shall be Nephilim. Somewhere in the reader's journey to the center of the earth to Argentumalea - the land of Tiffani's kingdom of Malean Faeries they must pass through the kingdom of the Nephilim. It's almost like the underworld - hell.
Nephilim- who have variously been defined as anything from fallen angels who mingled with the children of man to the offspring hybrid of such a union. Whatever they are they are giants-they are dangerous-they have been banished to the bowels of earth.
The people of Powell River are about to find out that some of them may have escaped. There might be some plan to let even more of them out of their prison.
Suzy Turners world is definitely taking a turn for the dark and its going to challenge the dynamic duo of Lilly and December and their league of friends. The council is going to have it's work cut out for them. And Powell River may never be the same.
If You enjoy Paranormal Romance if you love suspense and horror if you like Science Fiction and most of all if you have read the other two books -you will want to devour this one. Pick a time when you can quietly read the whole thing all at once.
Send for delivery- pizza or your favorite restaurant. Lots of coffee tea or soda and dig into the trenches and get this epic ending started.
I love the paranormal genre, preferably vampire, however I have read all the well known and some of the should be knowns,so when I finish a book or series it takes a long time to find one that peaks my interest. The cover is what drew me in,then as the story started to unfold I could not put it down.I would literally stay up all night reading not realizing until the sun would peak across our mountains. As a mom with school age children that was a bad situation LOL this book had every possible super natural character and then some. The authors story telling skills are amazing and the back stories of each character and how they in,not one character was left out.The end seemed a bit rushed after such a long drawn out backstory and history of the main characters but I was satisfied at the end.Amazing writer.!
The Lost Soul is the final book in The Raven Saga trilogy which is targeted at a Young Adult audience.
The second book in the trilogy December Moon was one of my Top Ten Fiction reads for 2011.
As soon as I saw Suzy tweet that The Lost Soul was available to purchase I was first in line to buy my Kindle copy.
The final book opens with a man who has been unconscious and wakes to realise that he’s laying with rotting corpses. He’s in a deep ditch and has no recollection of who he is and how he got there. He sees what he thinks is a hummingbird who tells him “You will be safe. Do not worry.” And so the adventure begins …
All the way through this story we have action … with December and her headaches and finding out this is a result of ‘the lost soul’ trying to contact her; the vampires trying to find Duran’s legacy he left behind; the man who opens the story who has a quest of his own that runs parallel to those in Powell River and the devastation caused by the new resident.
The way new characters tie up with history/old characters in the book is brilliant. The strands all weave together so that we realise there is nothing that happens in isolation but is part of the whole story. The characters all behave as we would expect them to from the previous books so we have continuation. I absolutely loved the appearance from a certain angel … My notes say ‘OMG it’s …’ even before he was named.
There were a couple of surprises for me – the new resident of Powell River, Calliope. I had my suspicions about her at the funeral but didn’t guess who she was. I also didn’t guess who the lost soul was until it was there in black and white!
I have two favourite scenes. One is when the Tulugaq family all realise their heritage – made me shiver. The other is when Ruby (the ghostly mother) finds her love. I had tears in my eyes!
You could read The Lost Soul as a standalone because it is a different quest and we are told what the characters are. You would be missing out on the background of the characters though and the journey they’ve been on to get where they are.
For me, the final quest of The Raven Saga brought it all together. I will miss this world!
With never a dull moment in this book, I would definitely call “The Lost Soul” a page turner. December and Jack are trying to communicate telepathically at the cost of severe headaches; a beautiful woman is seducing all the human men in town, and all the supernaturals are searching for Jemima - the beautiful and popular cheerleader who is thought to be dead. All this being only the tip of a very big paranormal iceberg, just add a lost fairy, caves full of nephilim, and…oh yes, a pterodactyl - and voila! A suspense-laden work of art.
This enthralling third book in the Raven Saga had me rooted to my chair until I had read the very last word. There are numerous well crafted characters - many of them supernatural races - and still the book is so skilfully written that the reader isn’t easily confused about who is who. The frequent shifts in point of view adds to the suspenseful atmosphere and gives the reader an idea of what is happening on all fronts. A touch of romance, especially that between Lily and Oliver, brings a beautiful sweetness to the story. The author maintains just the perfect balance between action, tender moments and humor and yet there are several moments for which you may want to have the Kleenex close by.
For a masterpiece of nail-biting suspense, riveting action and beautiful tender moments, “The Lost Soul” is an absolute must-read. I would, however, advise readers to read the first two books in the Raven Saga first before they read this fantastic book suitable for readers of all ages. I happily give it five stars! (Ellen Fritz)
REVIEW I finished reading "The Lost Soul" on August 30, 2012. I rate it three stars. I will not lengthen this opinion, because there isn’t much to say. Basically this was a book where the loose ends were tied, such as the return of the father of Lilly, the crossing of Ruby’s ghost now with Monty, Sammy joins the fairy who returns to her world... The only novelty was Calliope, who eventually became "good" at the end. Besides being a bit predictable, it always ended well, maybe because of the readers that the story is meant to. As it is a tale for younger readers, perhaps that’s why it took me longer to get to the end of the reading; it seemed too breezy and convenient to me.
It doesn’t seem to become easier for Lilly and her family and friends. While keeping tabs on her dad through December, who luckily can 'communicate' with him telepathically somehow, and thinking on a way to get him out of wherever he’s at, Powell River’s “human” men have fallen under the spell of a beautiful Nephilim, Calliope. At the mere mention of her name, men go insane fighting over who gets her attention, who loves her more, etc. The Nephilim have sent Calliope to Earth to prepare their welcome. They want to take over the Earth and rule over all! And they cannot let that happen. Well, in order to beat this obstacle and get things back to normal, well as normal as can be in Powell River, the Tulugaq family makes a hard decision and lets the community in on their ‘secret’ in order to defeat the Nephilim. I love how, once again it shows that family sticks together, and that includes true friends as well. Everyone pitches in and fights for their family, and friends of Powell River, and they are NOT defeated!! Some new characters come into play that make a good addition to the story in its entirety. I would have liked to read more on Lilly and Oliver, and how their relationship develops. Im glad Sammy found someone he can be with once again. Nice, happy ending overall. =)
The fantasy adventure of Lilly and December continues... to save and bring her father home safe and to investigate the newest residence of Powell River who has got all their men falling at her feet!
The story goes back and forth between Jack, Lilly's father, finding his way back... and to December and Lilly, finding out a way to help Jack and solving the mystery surrounding their town.
While the plot is interesting, again, it doesn't completely hold my attention, it bored me most of the time.... Though I enjoyed the climax part, for me, it wasn't as intense as I would have liked it... the ending was also just alright.
All in all, the series is not for me. Written in multiple POV's.
WOW! I literally cried at the end. **SPOILER** I'm sooo glad Jack made it home to his daughter Lily, you could feel the emotions that were present when Lily and Gabriel finally managed to hug and speak to Jack.
I was sad that Jack didn't get together with Zaela they would of made a lovely couple.
I'm glad Sammy Morton got another shot at love with Tiffany even though he would be leaving the family he has come to love.
Glad the Carmelo and Jo finally managed to tie the knot after everything they have been though.
I thoroughly enjoyed this whole series and i'm sad to see it finish... although "all good things come to an end".
A great ending to the series although it got a bit confusing with all 3 perspectives. Must be hard trying to find a new born vampire you used to be friends with, trying to find your dad who is stuck with the most dangerous and powerful beings on Earth, working out who is destroying the town and getting all the men's attention, yet deciding whether they need the town people's help - but if they do, they will have to tell them the truth. I just wish you found out what happened between Lilly and Oliver in the end. A need-to-read book ! <3
I am So SAD this series is over. SO VERY SAD! I love this series so much. Author Suzy Turner has created an amazing YA world that I love to spend HOURS in! I am so blown away by this series. The huge mix of paranormal and supernatural is wonderful! I love shifters so much and this series DOES NOT DISAPPOINT!!!!
A nice end to the series, but I found myself struggling to finish this one. I was growing tired of how everything seemed to be flowers and rainbows all the time. Even the enemy was mediocre. For a young adult novel I suppose it was alright, but there just seemed to be a real lack of drama and character immersion as other books I've read.
These were great, I get so tired of reading book's for adults that are no more than soft porn. These books have a great plot and lots of adventure and love. Just wish the characters were portrayed as bein older than in their young teens, even if it had been 16 at the beginning. But still a great read.
I'm not sure how I feel about this one. I thought it got a bit too far out there for me. The first two books were very realistic (for a paranormal story) but this one was a stretch. I also couldn't get past all the errors, like the author using the wrong names at times. The editing could have been much better. If I overlook that it was a good ending.
This third and final book in the Raven Saga was so enjoyable. There was an atmosphere in the tale of a Greek classic with modern twist. I love all of Suzy's books.
the final book in the Raven Saga to me was not as good as the first two, but I do love the spin on supernatural the author takes. I would highly recommend this YA series to teens and adults.
The writing is amateur. Adults don't say things that adults who Yuri of say. Sometimes they sound like teenagers. There is a lot of grown men crying and repeated phrases.
