When you've finished reading a book, several days have passed and you are STILL thinking about the story and characters then you KNOW it's an awesome book!

I was so excited when I knew book 2 was being released and I wasn't disappointed!

The story of Alex and Valeria continues fantastically as they endure heartbreaking pain to be united in their love once again....but who and what can be trusted in their journey to get there?

I love the way this author writes! People, places, scenery and feelings are so well described that you can appreciate it without it dragging on. I've never experienced an anxiety attack before while reading! Fast paced with twists and surprises, crying and laughing, a sigh worthy love and most of all a joy to read!

Well done Delia J. Colvin! Impatiently waiting on Book 3!

Ms Colvin takes an interesting subject, Greek Mythology, and turns it into the most evocative, engaging, and visually arresting characters I have ever encountered. If you don't find yourself living the story line, feeling the angst, the longing, the betrayal, the emotions, along with the characters, you may be living impaired.
Continuing her love story for the ages, Ms Colvin's second book of the trilogy is proof she has mastered her craft. Delving deeper into each character, expanding naturally into each new plot twist. The author has you anxiously waiting to see what happens next.
This book is the type that will have you reaching for anything with the authors name on it in the future. Knowing whatever it is, it will be a guaranteed great read.

Ms. Colvin does it again! From start to finish, I was moved by the emotionally charged story that unfolds. As book 2 of a trilogy, the author did an artistic job of taking you deeper into the world of the immortals where I found myself falling more in love with Alex and Valeria as well as cheering on new character who unseemingly vies for the reader's affection. Throughout the book, Ms. Colvin planted well-placed seeds of intrigue keeping me curious to find answers/explanations in book 3 without detracting from the beautiful story of book 2. This book doesn't stand alone like book 1 does, but by this point, the release of book 3 is eagerly anticipated by oracle fans who want to see love conquer and the rearing head of jealousy, greed, and evil beheaded with justice.

I always get a bit leery before reading a sequel; I never think it will live up to the standards of the first. I felt this way before reading The Symbolon. I genuinely loved the Sibylline Oracle so much, I didn't want to risk the good high I got reading it! Well, I just finished The Symbolon, and can honestly say I might have loved it more than the Sibylline Oracle! Again, I did NOT want to put it down, and got fully entranced in every single character!
Please hurry with the third book, as I'm dying to read more!

The Symbolon was a great continuation of the love story between Alex and Valeria! It was full of exciting twists and turns- all of which were eluded too and yet still caught me off guard! It kept me reading and praying nap time would last longer so that I could finish the book before my son woke up! I would love to see it as a movie! Great read!

A UNIQUE STORY TOPPED WITH NONSTOP EXCITEMENT!!!

I re-read the first book of the series, "The Sibylline Oracle," before I read this one and thought, "Wow, HOW will author Delia Colvin top THAT??" THEN I read this book, "The Symbolon," and upon finishing it thought, "So THAT'S how!" Throughout the book you cannot help but meld yourself into one with the story's main character, Valeria, as she rides a seemingly endless roller coaster of the highs and lows of what is like to experience love and lost love! You smile with her, love with her, weep with her, mourn with her, long for Alex with her, and even experience her boiling anger and heart-racing fears! The author continuously grabs your attention and keeps you in suspense as you wonder how Valeria and Alex would and could ever overcome ALL of the virtually impossible obstacles specifically set in place to keep them apart forever! I could honestly say I have never read a story like this one and could not have guessed this plot line--I'm sure anyone else would appreciate this book's plot along with its surprising twists and turns! This is a DEFINITE must-read, ESPECIALLY if you have read the first book of the trilogy. I CANNOT wait for the next and final part, "The Last Oracle" to come out!

When I got this book I didnt realize it was the second in a trilogy! I fell in love with the characters and it was extremely well written. I couldnt stop reading this book and I am really dying for more. The author painted a vivid picture in my head, thus having an extremely awesome ability at describing scenes, characters and what is going on. I really must recommend this book. I am looking forward to grabbing the other books in this trilogy as soon as I can have a chance. Sexy characters, danger everywhere, loads of action and an undying love through time!!! MUST READ!!!

I won this book on goodreads.com.. I was expecting a fantasy/paranormal book and it had a lot more romance in it than I anticipated. However, the novel pulls you in from the first chapter. "The Symbolon" kept me reading until I finished it. It had a great imaginative storyline and interesting characters. I can see a big audience that would enjoy this book and the other two in the trilogy. I plan on sending my copy to someone else I know. I bet she will enjoy it.

If you read book one of Delia's The Sibylline Trilogy, The Sibylline Oracle, and loved it, you will not be disappointed with The Symbolon. It's hard, because I hate when reviewers spoil it for readers and give the main plot away, but there are just some things that must be mentioned. And The Symbolon is all about finally trying to get these two soul mates (Alex & Valeria), the symbolons, together -- this time, forever. And they are so close. The only thing that stands in their way is approval from a council of immortals for an immortal marriage, and a pesky former marriage of Alex's, which proves to be more of a nuisance than he could ever have imagined. The roller coaster adventure that takes off after an explosive and heart-wrenching council meeting sets the tone for the book - which is unfulfilled love, frustration, hope, and plotting. These two lovers still yearn for their other half and will do ANYTHING to have a chance to come together, forever, once and for all. In this second novel, we become better acquainted with new characters and more answers are revealed about Alex's history, immortals, oracles, and as always, with the flair of Greek Mythology plus modern day times. I love how well Delia can build out a scene and really make you feel like you are right there, holding your breath, waiting for the outcome. These are characters you will get emotionally attached to and will yearn to read their conclusion in her upcoming debut of The Last oracle. An excellent trilogy that is so unique and for the romantic at heart.

*Disclaimer: I am Delia's copy editor, however, I am first and foremost a reader. I am not paid by Delia to review her books, my job does not depend on it, and nor has she ever asked me to review one of her books. I am reviewing this book as a reader ONLY and these opinions are my own. Thank you kindly for understanding!*

A Review of The Symbolon
Reviewed by Wennie Conedy
3 Stars

The Symbolon is the second book in The Sibylline Trilogy, and not having the pleasure of reading the first book, I had a difficult time getting into the story of Alex and Valeria.

The first five chapters had a number of references to what I am assuming are incidents or situations established in the first book which, unfortunately, left me with a lot of unanswered questions. It was at this point that I almost gave up.

The story finally took off towards the end of Chapter 5. Expecting a smooth event, requesting for two immortals to marry, ended in an edict that delayed the marriage – for hundreds of years, and an order for the two lovers to stay apart. Alex made a drastic mistake. Alex let his emotions rule his actions. His one soft spot is his love for Valeria. He would do anything to protect her and be by her side. His one soft led him to make decisions that affected their forever-after, and he now has to live with it, or find the solution to mend it. Little does he know that there are other factors in play.

I loved the setting of the story, and references to Greek lore, which I find to be mystical and mysterious.

The continuity of the story left much to be desired. There were some characters, like Meege, who seemed to pop up and disappear from the story without any explanation. Meege's main contribution to the story is to facilitate Alex's meeting her ex-husband Paolo. Her character was a convenient tool to budge the story forward.

I also felt that the resolution of the character's situation was incomplete. The author failed to address how the solution would affect the characters in the long term. What is their standing with the council? Will they be hunted for the rest of their life? How will this affect the rest of their family? The biggest question for me was - why Paolo suddenly changed his stance and did a complete one-eighty on his petition. There are so many unanswered questions.

Unnecessary detail bogged the story down. Details such as the style of her dress, or how she styled her hair, or the frolic by the beach did nothing to contribute to the story. There were a few scenes in the book that, if edited out, would improve the pacing of the story. The overuse of exclamation points and the writing style did not lend to the sophistication of the story line. There was also a bit too much of narrative, and very little dialogue or action. I felt that the story would have been more fully developed if told from the character’s actions and words. The frequent use of exclamation points to stress the character’s thoughts was distracting.

The premise of the story is intriguing. Unfortunately, lack of knowledge of what happened in Book 1 hampered my understanding of the story. For example, I wondered why Caleb could not be touched by anyone except Valeria. To understand this story, and these two star-crossed lovers, I strongly encourage reading the first book before delving into the second. Be prepared to have some questions unresolved. I suspect that the author intends to address those in the third book.

I commend the author for her effort in bringing her story to light. Writing, getting published and receiving critique is not easy. I appreciate the opportunity to review.

The Symbolon, Book 2, was a much better book than Book 1. The story line wasn't choppy and the characters were well developed. The only complaint I have is the use of any profanity. I believe this demeans the quality of her beautiful work (and it is a beautiful work). The profanity seems added as if to get an "adult" rating for her book which stands just fine on its own. The books opens with Alex and Valeria planning their wedding, and Ms. Colvin is excellent in pulling the reader into the beautiful, romantic Italian countryside, and expressing the love between the main characters. At the same time she keeps the story well paced so that it doesn't become dull. However, Alex and Valeria's relationship is greatly stained in this book when they are denied their marriage request. Not only are they denied, but the immortal council charges they should be separated forever. We see an all too human Valeria at her lowest, suffering grief being separated from her Symbolon, nearly to the point of death. She manages great strength, courage, and faith in her love for Alex by the end of the book which enhances her character. My only complaint for Valeria is that knowing I was once someone else (Cassandra), and not knowing if my enemy (Aegemon) was still alive or not, I would have been learning everything I could about my past, the Greek gods, their laws, and Alex's past as soon as I had the strength after leaving the hospital. Her experience from the first book should have given her a desire to be more "prepared." Still this was an engaging story and I look forward to reading Book 3 soon.

Alex and Valeria are set to wed. Alex wants to make it official by going to the Council of Oracles for an approved immortal wedding.

All seems fine until a mysterious man catches Alex's attention and seems to keep doing so.

At the hearing just as they were to be announced official, the mysterious man objects. He is the brother of the sister who was also an immortal and thereby voiding any other marriage, that Alex had married centuries before in an attempt to live some sort of life. Little did he know it would be the barrier.

This objection means that Valeria has to leave. She can never see Alex or the family she became to know as her own again - on punishment of death.

Paulo, the brother, offers to court her, twisting it to make it seem it the best idea for Valeria to get Alex back.

Paulo had actually married one of Valeria's previous reincarnations previously, Bella, and still loves her dearly. But Valeria is broken. She wants Alex and noone else....

Paulo suggests to a "fake" engagement to which would allow Alex and the family to at least to see Valeria that once. She agrees......she passes test after test to prove she loves Paulo and once more she finds herself at the Council to get their engagement approved....

Can she trust Paulo? Is he really trying to help find her way back to Alex, or is he trying to make her his again? Will the Council sense the truth?

The ending is a brilliant cliffhanger, with a will-they-wont-they ending - and a twist that makes it a great ending.....

And is Paulo's sister as far and as distant from the situation.....and is she as innocent in all this as Paulo makes out....?

I look forward to the next...

picking up right where Alex and Valeria left off in the first book. Alex has proposed and now they are going to the immortal. council to request an immortal marriage. this is all Alex has dreamt of while Valeria has bad vibes about the whole thing. should have listened to your girl Alex. at the council Val finds out Alex is already married to Kristiana, an immortal as well. and a sneaky one. her brother Paulo makes a petition to stop the wedding based on Alex's prior marriage to Kristiana. Alex left her 1000 or so years ago.,after he found out Cassandra(val)could be reincarnated. this is where things get crazy, these immortals impose a law where Val and Alex can't see each other for ever...at least till the next council, in 500 years. we'll shit that's a long time. so from there on the story goes........I don't want to give anything away. it's actually an interesting story, however their were things that take place that make me want to throw the book in the river. First off Alex...never completely honest, always keeping Val from the truth. if he had been honest from the beginning most of the carp they dealt with wouldn't have happened. I was slightly confused by Paulo too. this guy is obviously a hotti ..why worry about a woman who clearly doesn't ever want you. This is a good story, very interesting and definitely worth reading. I do look forward to the last book to see where it all goes..my only serious tiff with the story was the moments where I was feeling like shouting out hey dumbass! !too a few of the characters.

So I am not overly surprised, by what I feel, is way to high of a rating for this book. A lot of people will stop reading a series after Book 1 if they are not too into it. Those that continue are "In-lust" with the series.

That being said, I felt that this book was mediocre at best. I was really behind the concept and the theory. I love books that involve mythology and "soul mates" or "perfect matches." However, there are quite a few things that throw me off. First and foremost, this author's use of exclamation points is enough to make me want to never, ever read anything from this author again. It's just flat out ridiculous. I have no idea if this author even knows when the appropriate time to use one it. It distracted me through out both books and greatly detracts from the story line.

Secondly, the characters are poorly developed. They have no real emotions playing out, and opportunities for them to exist are breezed over. The author spends a lot more time in details that do not advance the plot or the characters.

Finally, and while this is just a personal preference and really shouldn't be a negative on the author's part, I just can't get behind a guy who is overly sappy with no balls. And that's what Alex is and it kills me. Literally kills me.

All that being said, I will finish out the series, because I just can't help myself. I'm not a quitter. So until I force my way through the next book....

I stumbled across this book downloaded it to my kindle as a maybe some day when I run out of books book to read. When I decided to read it just a week or so later I couldn't really remember much of what it was about. I didn't realize that this was book 2 of a series until I was a little was in to it.

From the very beginning this book had me, it was a page turn from beginning to end. I felt like that person that goes on that show that buys something at a garage sale and turns out it priceless. Silly analogy I know but that's exactly how I felt. How could I not have know what an incredible book was sitting in my library.

I began to care very quickly about the characters and built my own relationships with them. I hated Paolo for his betrayal of Alex and Valeria yet by the end of the book I wanted to know he was going to be ok..

I've found myself worrying about these characters while waiting for the third book as the store is so touching.

She really ties it all together to very well, friendship, love, action, suspense but I'd love to get my hands on Kristiana

I couldn't wait to start book 2 of the trilogy. You do think to yourself just how will the author continue the story from the first book......oh boy she does a great job!!

The book started with a bit of a shock, especially knowing about Alex's undying love for Cassandra, it did surprise me but then you learn it was in the past.

So the moment has finally come for the soul mates Alex and Cassandra to marry but before they do they have to meet in front of the council of immortals for permission. This means they have to prove that Cassandra is now immortal which thankfully they do but things do not go plan, evil selfish forces are against their marriage.

What will happen? Who can they trust? Not everything is as it seems......

I'm not going to give any more away, you will have to enjoy reading the twists and turns throughout the story yourself just like I did and it will keep you hooked. When you think that they have finally reached the light at the end of the desperate tunnel the author weaves her magic again and your left holding your breath for the next installment!!
