After solving the case of Sarah O’Connell’s death in Saint Paul, Jarek Videni is back and ready to work on his next assignment. He has been summoned to Deadwood to seek out a woman named Ulrika Johnston. However, it doesn't take long for Jarek to realize there is more at play in this small western town than just the single case. Jarek uncovers a far more sinister mystery of almost fifty young women gone missing.
The town is shrouded in darkness, and Jarek's abilities are threatened as his questionable past is soon brought to light. Haunted by his inner demons, Jarek soon understands that he may not have the strength to fight this fight alone. With the help of new friends and allies, he must navigate a violent mystery and stop the forces that stalk him before it's too late.
Will he succeed, or will the shadows finally consume him?
Phenomenal book! Every chapter kept you in suspense and kept you guessing. I would continuously have theories on how the book would proceed and end only to have an entirely new theory after another chapter. Highly recommend this book along with the first book in this series. It doesn't take long to get through the book and the pace ensures you don't get bored.
I was privileged to read an advance copy of Convocation, the second book in the Chasing Shadows series by author Zachariah Jones. This book will be released in October 2023.
Convocation absolutely blew me away! I loved Jones's first book in this series, Genesis, but this second book takes it to another level! Jones's writing is stronger and tighter.
The storyline is enthralling. In Convocation we learn so much more about Jarek and his life. Several new characters are introduced and they pull you in fast and hard. I felt as if I were right there in Deadwood, South Dakota with these folks. The story twists and turns and just when I thought I had something figured out... I didn't.
Jones throws some subtle humor in now and then, which was well-placed and gave me some chuckles. Convocation kept me on edge with just enough creepiness, lots of mystery, a little romantic attraction, deep characters and a well thought out plot. I even shed a few tears at one point.
The Chasing Shadows series is in the paranormal mystery genre, but honestly, if you like suspense, history, travel, or any mystery at all, you will enjoy Jones's books. Don't let "paranormal" scare you off (pun intended). This is not my typical genre and I absolutely love these books.
Convocation is fantastic! Don't miss this one coming out early October 2023! In the meantime, read the first book in the Chasing Shadows series, Genesis.
This is the second book in the Chasing Shadows trilogy by Zachariah Jones.
As in the first book, Genesis, Jones has done thorough historical research into the geographic location the story is set.
In Convocation, protagonist Jarek continues his work as an intuitive, this time in Deadwood, South Dakota. Several characters from the first book return and new characters come into play. The storyline will keep you enthralled. Jones keeps us in suspense and keeps us guessing. Just when you think you've got it, you don't!
This trilogy is billed as in the horror genre, and yes, it has its creepy moments, but don't be afraid to give Jones' books a read even if you don't ordinarily read horror. The paranormal, historical, murder and mystery aspects will carry you through, and you'll be glad you gave your attention to this quick page turner!
