Tag Cardwell comes to Montana to spend Christmas with his estranged father. Little does he expect to find romance and also get caught up in a murder mystery in which his father may be involved. A very entertaining romantic suspense story which tended to focus more on the action and suspense than the romance. A lot was going on in this one, not only with the main plot but also with a secondary suspenseful subplot. I enjoyed the interesting cast of characters and the snow-filled wintry canyon setting. The story kept me thoroughly entertained throughout.

Good book, though the back cover blurb isn't entirely accurate. It isn't Tag who has the secrets but his dad. Tag hadn't been back to Montana since his parents divorced and his mom moved he and his siblings to Texas. Now he wants to reconnect with his father. Problem is, dad doesn't seem too happy that Tag has shown up right now. While Tag is at a local bar watching his dad and uncle perform with their band he has a brief run-in with a drunk waitress then is questioned about it by fellow waitress Lily. When he stumbles across that waitress's body the next day things start getting really interesting. He ends up with a mysterious computer file that might be in code and Lily attempts to decode it. Pretty soon they're in danger and have to find out what's going on. And how are Tag's father and the sheriff involved, and on what side?

I liked Tag. He wants a chance to reconnect with his father and has come to Montana to do it. He's a bit disturbed by his father's secretiveness, especially when Tag notices a link between him and the murdered waitress. There are some other things that he notices about his father and also about the sheriff that make him wonder which side of the law they are on. Tag is also intrigued by Lily, especially once they get together over the contents of the computer file. I liked the way that he isn't bothered by or intimidated by her intelligence. There are times when he feels he's in over his head, but it doesn't stop him from being involved anyway. The more they learn the more he worries about Lily's safety. I loved his resourcefulness at the end as he puts the pieces together. I also liked his growing feelings for Lily and how those feelings create a need to protect her, even when he isn't sure what her feelings are for him.

I also liked Lily, though I wanted to smack her a couple times for being so blind. Lily is a math professor at a local college. Every year at Christmas she comes to help her brother Ace at the bar he owns. This year she's especially glad to have gotten away. Six months earlier she'd been left at the altar by her fiance and she's still feeling down about that. Tag is nothing like her ex, but he appeals to her in a whole different way. When they join forces to figure out what is going on she feels incredibly safe with him. When her ex suddenly shows up wanting to make amends she doesn't know what to do. They still have so much in common that she can see forgiving him and taking him back, but then again her feelings for Tag are so much more intense. She does feel okay enough with him to let him help her decode the computer file. Shortly after that she is kidnapped and held by someone who wants that file. I liked the way that she stayed calm and used her brain to try to find a way out of her predicament. Unfortunately she then ended up in trouble again, trouble that she should have seen coming. It was nice to see her come out of that one stronger than she knew she could be. Loved the ending with her and her brother included in the Cardwell ranch Christmas celebration and how much fun they had.

A secondary but related storyline involved Hud, Dana and the imposter from Cardwell Ranch Trespasser. Hud has been battling feelings of inadequacy after his family was nearly murdered in that book. Now there are more murders and he's not having much success in solving them and he's thinking about giving up his job. We also see how Camilla, the perp from that book, is plotting revenge from inside prison. It's interesting to see how the two storylines intertwine.

Christmas at Cardwell Ranch was full of surprises. It had some twists that I was surprised with and some I had guessed at. The name really fits the book too. I never paid attention to much about the Cardwell of Texas.

The plot was good I had wondered why Tag did not go to cops but the reason was very well done. There is a lot of drama, suspenseful, some romance, lots of bad guys? Had to keep reading to see how it would all work out.

I like Tag Cardwell. He is trying to figure what is going on. He does not know who to trust. His father is not very welcoming when he shows up at his cabin to surprise his dad with a Christmas visit.

Tag goes to the Canyon bar to hear his father play. When he is leaving he sees bumps into a drunk lady and then sees her getting into a truck. Then he talks to Lily McCabe as she is looking for the other women. She is not to impressed with Tag.

Lily is helping her brother over the holidays by working at his bar. This way they get to spend the holidays together while she is off from teaching college.

Lily and Tag end up trying to figure out what is going on. After Tag finds something in his coat pocket that he did not put their.

This is a pretty fast paced book. Lots of things going on. Tag is not sure who to trust after he is lied to a few times.

I enjoyed it. The snow sounds good on these hot August days. I wonder if we will get to meet Tag's other four brothers or if Lily's brother Ace will get his own book? I will want to see if their story get told.

I was given this ebook to read and asked to give honest review of it in exchange by NetGalley and Harlequin.

The Cardwell Ranch series has always intrigued me because of the location and the fact that there always seems to be a lot of intrigue going on there. Christmas At Cardwell Ranch is no different but Harlan’s oldest son has come for a visit and gets caught up in a mystery that will rock the ranch and town to its core.

Tag Cardwell has come to Montana to try and reconnect with his father who he hasn’t seen in years, but he gets the feeling his father would have preferred him not to come. So, he happily reconnects with his cousin Dana, her husband Hud, and their children. But he soon finds himself in the middle of a murder investigation and helping Lily, a mathematician/waitress; try to figure out what is going on in this town.

As always this author gives us a lot of mystery and intrigue. What I didn’t feel was the overwhelming attraction between Tag and Lily. Yes, there was some interest but it just didn’t seem to smolder the way it has in her past books. It was hard not to love Tag; he was so excited about being back in Montana for Christmas and even with his father’s less than stellar reaction he decided to make the best of it. I like that even though he didn’t know the people in town well he got involved when he realized he was the last person beside the killer to see a woman alive. He didn’t shy away from the questions; he did his best to help with the situation. I liked Lily although at times I questioned her sanity when dealing with her ex. While I understand she had a connection with him, it was hard to believe she even considered what he was suggesting. I enjoyed watching Tag and Lily work together and maybe if the book had been longer I might have felt the heat between them more but overall that part of the story just kind of left me uninterested.

Christmas at Cardwell Ranch is a romantic suspense story that was heavier on the suspense than the romance. While I enjoyed it, I think some additional alone time spent between the two main characters could have made the book better.

*Readers keep in mind this is a romance pure and simple, the acts of passion take place out of sight, so heat warning is between a 1 & 2.

Christmas is coming soon and why not spend it a father you haven't spent one with in like forever add a cousin in there too. At least that is the plan for Tag but you know what they say about plans sometimes-does not always happen or turn out that way. Going into the bar Canyon where his father Harlan and Uncle Angus -Canyon Cowboys were playing to a packed bar. Oh the memories for him were great until being taken off to Texas after a divorce. Just earlier he "surprised " his father saying he wanted to spend Christmas with him.
Bumping into a lady on way in could be more of a beginning to holiday fun then what he has in mind. Especially since same lady ends up dead and wonders what it all has to do with his father and Marshal Hud married to his cousin who seems to know more than meets the eye. Than there is Lily who is Age's sister helping out for said holidays at bar who worried about Mia finds ransacked place instead. So when Tag needs help with a piece of a clue he turns to Lily for that help. Sometimes helping can come with extras like trouble big time. So a mystery to be solved that is filled with danger and murder is afoot with family in danger you know no hunk of a cowboy is going to turn away from that. Holidays are all about family right? His present comes early I think in the form of Lily where love will have its way with these two. But she carries with her baggage in form of ex who pops in to add to the mix. Oh what a mess-more murder, mayhem and trouble from afar on a past not yet forgotten causes this to be so exciting. So much action in Big Sky Montana it will be a holiday season not soon forgotten. Secrets will be revealed and those answers must be found out on your own. Sprinkled in there will be hope and love in the air all in time for Christmas. Received early copy for review.

Review:

"Christmas At Cardwell Ranch" by B.J. Daniels was a wonderfully told story that you will want to read especially during the holidays. It is not a story of just Christmas but all in all it comes into play that you will soon see it as you read through the novel. I really liked the two main characters Lily and Tag that were drawn together in the very good intriguing story. Who knew that while Tag has come to visit his father for the holiday that he would met such a woman like Lily. From their meeting serious things start to happen...missing people and murders? There will be some evilness that will return to this small town of Big Sky, Montana from the pass that will put many of its residents in jeopardy. "Christmas At Cardwell Ranch" will be one of those reads that you will not be able to put down until the very end. The characters from Tag Cardwell, Lily McCabe, Hud Savage to only name a few where you will find they are all well developed and so very captivating. This author was able to present to its reader a story of intrigue, mystery, suspense and some even some romance. The reader will be quickly 'pulled into the lives and stories of these families'....the Cardwell's and their kin folk. Be ready for the twist and turns that will come into this plot. Also, if you are a cowboy lover you have definitely come to the right place. Oh, I will say there are three previous novels by this author that comes before this series and I would highly recommend you read those first, however this one I felt could be read as a stand alone read. So, if you are looking for a interesting Christmas holiday read I feel "Christmas at Cardwell Ranch" would be recommended to you as a good read.

Christmas at Cardwell Ranch tells the story of Tag who is visiting his father in Big Sky, Montana for the holidays. During his stay, a couple ladies are murdered, and Tag finds himself right in the thick of things.

The story was quick to develop, and had a few interesting twists and turns. I appreciated the author's style of writing, and found it really easy to get into this book. I enjoyed reading about the residents of Big Sky, and found them very down to earth and likeable.

Another thing that I really liked was that even though I haven't read any of the previous books in the series, I never felt that I didn't know what was going on. All the relevant backstories were explained in enough detail that I could follow what was happening.

I didn’t always feel that Tag and Lily had the strongest connection since they hardly knew each other, but I admired how he went looking for her when she was abducted. He really seemed to care for her, but Lily seemed to still be going back and forth between Tag and Gerald. I would have liked a bit more romance between Tag and Lily.

The ending was a bit rushed, but other than that I had a good time reading this story.

Overall, I thought Christmas at Cardwell Ranch was fast paced and entertaining. I enjoyed the characters and plot, and it was a fun read.

I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads. Thank you!

I just love the Cardwell Ranch books and the Christmas one was a great start to the holiday season. You had everything in this story murder, suspicion, secrets, and a little love thrown in the mix to wrap this big Christmas present. I loved that we has some of our old favorite characters while we got to meet some new ones who will hopefully be with us in the future. This book gives us an ending to two stories one of which is from the Cardwell Trespasser book.
I'm was glad finally to learn what exactly Harlan and Angus do beside play the guitar and drink beer. If you haven't read any of the other books in the series you can get by without reading them to read this but I would highly recommend that you read the series. You'll be defiantly be missing out. Thank you B.J for another wonderful addition to this series.

Love BJ Daniels writing and this book didn't disappoint. The action was seat of the pants. It was fun to figure out the code since I like puzzles like that.

The story of Tag and Lily being thrown together after a murder kept me hooked from the first page.

This was the first I picked one of series I ever picked up—randomly chosen at a thrift store expecting it to be one of those awful books my partner and I could to a dramatic reading of for the sillies. I was actually surprised that it turned into a mystery. The author’s writing style was pleasant, and I found myself stopping at times to reread some descriptive sentences.

I liked that the author gave enough of the background from the previous books so that I could catch up on the antagonist’s background and motivation.

I liked the use of a cypher (it was fun to try and puzzle it out).

***SPOILERS***
I didn’t enjoy the initial romantic interaction of Tag and Lily, mostly because at that point he was drugged and likely has a concussion??? Like that’s…SA on her part and bizarre. Tag’s character seems like the type that wouldn’t need courage from another source and there had to be a way to write the coldness from Lily without it being “oh he doesn’t remember, good”.

The resolution was pretty good, I thought Lily’s aversions to guns as realistic.

The proposal feels like a bit much after knowing someone for a few days, esp considering your last fiancé tried to kill you?

Another great Intrigue by B.J. Daniels! Tag came to Big Sky country from Texas to spend Christmas with his estranged father. He was expecting his father to be distant since he hadn't spent time with him since he was eleven, but he was determined to build a relationship with the man. To put it mildly, things didn't go as planned.

Tag, never one to stand by when he sees an injustice, immediately is embroiled in the mystery of Mia. When she was found dead, Tag knew something was afoot in Big Sky and he wasn't leaving until he figured out how his father was tied up in it.

This was a fast read that kept you entertained and wondering how it all tied together. The only thing I was kind of disappointed about was one character who was kidnapped but you never found out why or anything more about her. It just ended (in a way I can't say, but there was no explanation for either event).

If you love a fast-paced intrigue with lots of action, a sexy cowboy who has eyes for only one woman, and a little bit of Christmas thrown in to sweeten the pot, then you don't want to miss Christmas at Cardwell Ranch.

Tag has returned to Montana to spend Christmas with his father. He goes to his fathers house and he doesn't let him in and asked him to return later after he gets a room ready for him. The first night he does to the bar that his father is playing in the band there and a woman runs into him. The woman seems to be very drunk and he follows her outside to see her leave with a cowboy. Lily goes outside to check on Mia and Tag tells her she left with a cowboy and seemed very drunk

Later on Lily goes to Mia's condo and finds the door open and the room ransacked. She calls the police and Hud shows up and checks out the condo.

So the mystery is Mia disappearance along with another worker at the bar.

A gripping murder mystery from start to finish. Tanner aka Tag comes to Montana from Texas to visit his dad for Christmas. A series of events unfolds and he's the last person to see a young server from Ace's bar alive. Ace's sister, Lily, fills in over the holidays as a server to help her brother out. Her full-time jobs as a professor of mathematics at the local college.

When she arrives at Mia's apartment it's been ransacked and law enforcement is called in. The web of intrigue begins and Tag and Lily's lives will become intertwined in the mystery. A gripping, but fairly predictable mystery: enjoyable none the less!

in B.J. Daniels’ first story “Cardwell Cousins” series, Tag heads back to Montana, meets Lily and they both become entangled in a murder mystery!

-Please Note- I plan to reread this book and leave a better review.

Their cousin, Dana, has been hard at work trying to get their family back to together and back to Montana! She knew it might take a while but her Hope was to have all the cousins back together. And if age has to do a little matchmaking or give a bit of encouragement, she’d do whatever she could to ensure her cousins were as happy as she is with her husband, Hud, the Marshall.

I have just finished this book and boy am I tired. Loved the action and suspense. Love the emotions between Hud and Dana (have since the first book). Tag is a wow and Lily is a strong heroine. They deserve each other and their future.

B. J. Daniels can write a story that sucks you right in and makes you really care for the characters. I was even glad that Camilla finally got hers...and that it was both Hud and Dana that did her in. She deserved it.

Love the Cardwell ranch series and will read all of them....and reread.....and reread.

Tag Cardwell came to Montana to surprise his father and spend Christmas with him. His father isn’t too pleased to see him and urges him to return to Texas. But Tag had met a gorgeous brunette named Lily McCabe and he was in no hurry to leave. When a couple of waitresses from her brother’s bar are found strangled, Lily is concerned and starts investigating. Then Lily disappears and Tag is determined not to lose her.
