GIFT OF LOVE by Michele Paige Holmes Ethan Mooreleigh knows he’ll never love another woman after the loss of his beloved wife. Yet he needs a male heir to inherit his vast fortune. Eden Newlywed Lucy Stanthorpe arrives for the London Season, planning to attend every ball and musicale with her new husband, Reed, only to discover he has no intention of taking part in the social whirl. Their battle of wills threatens to pull the young couple apart unless they can both soften their stubborn hearts. AN OCEAN AWAY by Heather B. Moore Gina Graydon knows the last thing she’ll attract on her holiday in France is an eligible bachelor. Tall, outspoken, and with a weakness for laughing at the wrong moment, not to mention being much too occupied with reading gothic romances, Gina decides she’d rather live in her fictional world. Besides, the only man who pays attention to her at the resort hotel happens to be her father’s worst enemy. And that is far from romantic. Reading in a secluded garden, and dreaming about the perfect kiss, all keep Gina much too busy to consider Mr. Edmund Donaldson any sort of hero. WHAT HAPPENS IN VENICE by Nancy Campbell Allen Evangeline Stuart is determined to enjoy her vacation in Venice—her first and likely her last since she lives under the strict confines of her step-father’s control. When she meets the mysterious and romantic Conte Bellini, who happens to be Italy’s most eligible bachelor, she decides he is all part of the dream of visiting Venice. It’s impossible for her to believe that his interest in her is anything more than kindness to a foreign visitor. But when he discovers the true betrayal of her step-father, Evangeline learns the Conte may be the one person with the power to restore her happiness.

War of Hearts by Annette Lyon is set during the 1939 "Winter War" in Finland. Anna, a journalist, accepts an assignment to a remote corner of Finland not just to cover the war for gallant little Finland vs. big, bad Russia, but also to heal a broken heart. She discovers things she never expected while in the frozen land.

I really like the Finnish people and how their struggles are portrayed. I also like how the Russian soldiers are mere boys, lied to and forced into fighting an enemy on home turf. The hospital scene is utterly heartbreaking. I don't care for the violence of war but this is well-written war story. As a romance, this story has a lot of flaws. Without flashback memories to when Anna and Pete were together, I don't get a sense of why they love each other. The romance was boring.

The Earl of Oaksey Takes a Wife by G.G. Vandergriff
Melissa is a newly married lady, recently returned from Gretna Green with her new husband, the Earl of Oaksey. They spent three blissful days and nights on the road back to London, but once they arrive at her family's home, everything goes wrong. It seems Lord Oaksey has massive debts and may have only married Melissa for her money.

I do not like married couple stories because they're always the same. I also do not like young heroines. Melissa rushed headlong into marriage based on physical attraction and feelings. She hardly knows her husband. I feel sorry for Thomas because she is just awful. Everyone has debts. What peer was not in debt and needed a fortune to save his estate? This story features two secondary characters from a previous story I haven't read and I feel like I am missing out on something important.

Gift of Love by Michele Paige Holmes is a gothic romance set in 1763. When Ethan Mooreleigh loses his third wife in childbirth it breaks his heart. He is unable to bring himself to care for his motherless daughter or find a new wife to provide him with an heir. Amelia,, cousin of Ethan Mooreleigh's last wife, is about to take her vows as a nun when her brother tells her she is the only one who can heal his friend's heart. Amelia, unaware of the tragic demises of Ethan's first two wives, agrees to wed the man because she is desperate for children. When the groom flees his bride on their wedding day, she must summon her courage to be a strong and loving mother for her new daughter.

This is a fairly well written story but too dark for me. I was surprised by the plot twist. I didn't see it coming until just before the reveal. Then it was obvious that something was going to happen but the rest of the reveal was shocking. I like the budding romance between Amelia and Ethan. It grows as they get to know each other and the story ends with a promise of a closed door love scene. I even like the child, Lizbeth, an innocent victim of fate. I'm just not a fan of such dark stories.

A Lesson in Love by Sarah M. Eden is about another newly married Regency couple. Lucy Stanhope can't wait to attend the social functions of the season as a married lady. No more worries about being a wallflower for her and no more wearing pastels. However, her dear Reed would rather stay at home than go out! What's a bride to do? Why, consult her mother, who concludes Reed needs a lesson in love.

Ugh no. I do not like silly young heroines who have no business being married. I can relate better to Reed. These characters need to learn to communicate before it comes to this situation. Lucy's female relatives are beastly to their men and I feel very sorry for their husbands who seem quite nice.

An Ocean Away by Heather B. Moore is set in Bordeaux, France and New York in 1841. While vacationing with her family in France, Miss Gina Graydon sneaks off to the courtyard of the hotel every morning to read gothic romance novels! One early morning she accidentally catches the attention of the man next door. Mr. Edmund H. Donaldson can't help but be captivated by the spritely young lady who loves to read. He is in France to settle his late wife's estate. Jacqueline loved his money and loved socializing but he never saw her engaged in intellectual pursuits such as reading. Edmund is smitten by the young lady once they meet but his only love is sprung from his only hate! How can Edmund convince her to defy her father, his business rival, and marry him?

While I don't believe in love at first sight or the romance in this story, it's pretty cute. I could do without the feuding families drama or the steamy kissing scenes. This is one for those who are in love with love and like a swoony sort of hero.

In What Happens in Venice? by Nancy Campbell Allen, Evangeline Stuart is in Venice with her stepfather and two step-sisters as they attend an art exhibition. Evangeline's stepfather was invited to show some of his paintings, angering Evangeline who is an artist herself. She knows true art and her stepfather's paintings are not it. When she meets a mysterious masked Italian on the balcony of the Doge's Palace, Evangeline is wary, but he seems to share her passion for art. If anything, perhaps this man can help her find a way to support herself as an artist or maybe she'll even succumb to his charm and choose an improper life instead.

This is a Cinderella story without a fairy godmother and considerably darker than Disney's version of the fairy tale. Evangeline's story is heartbreaking. I figured out what her stepfather was up to right away but I didn't expect him to be so evil. Like Evangeline, I was wary of Matteo and know the same stories about Italian men. Unlike Evangeline, my instinct is to guard myself from their charm. Despite my wariness about him, this story is actually a nice romance and my favorite of the collection.

Overall a great novella selection, some I enjoyed more than others...

War of Hearts - Annette Lyon - 3 stars - Not a big war fan - this one was good, but didn't float my boat.

The Earl of Oaksey Takes a Wife - G.G. Vandagriff’s -3 stars - In this one the couple spent more time apart than together, after eloping Melissa finds out she has only been married for her dowry, or so she thinks....its sweet but short.

Gift of Love - Michele Paige Holmes - 4.5 stars - Really enjoyed this one - Moral Note: Murder & some innuendos between a married couple.

A Lesson in Love - Sarah M. Eden - 5 Stars - Super fun & cute!!!

An Ocean Away - Heather B. Moore’s captivating story - 5 Stars - Awww, really liked this one, loved Gina & Edmund.

What Happens in Venice - Nancy Campbell Allen -4.5 stars, this was another great one. Intense, romantic, had a villain, a little Cinderella plot, good stuff! (Moral Note: Some verbal & physical abuse)

The last story: What Happens in Venice.
Definitely my favorite. I’d give it a solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ . I’d give it 5 stars but it was way too short. I need a 300 page book please. Now.
Matteo, the hero, was... *sigh*

I skipped most of these. I usually like Sarah M. Eden but this story was so silly and disappointing, I just wanted to talk some sense into everyone and felt exasperated the whole time. I did like the Venice one. It was atmospheric and I liked our hero and the heroine and felt their relationship was well developed given the short space of a novella. It was my first Nancy Campbell Allen and I enjoyed her writing style.

I have grown to love the Timeless Romance Anthologies, but this one is my favorite by far. This one held such magic in each story. The stories and the characters stayed with me for such a long time. All of the stories are a clean historical romance. Some of the couples are even married when the story begins. It's nice to see this. It would be hard to pick a favorite, even though the last one was set in Venice, Italy where I've been wanting to go visit. ;)

One thing I suggest to readers, go in reading these stories knowing they are not full length novels. These are short stories and so you are not going to get the full plot/character development you would see in a full blown novel. There is a reason I'm mentioning this in my review. There were some reviews that mentioned they didn't like the stories because they weren't long enough. If you order a root beer, but are upset it doesn't taste like a lemonade, it's still going to be a root beer. In other words, if you pick up a book of short stories, you are getting short stories not full length novels. The anthologies are written by seasoned writers that know how to write romance. Go in reading them knowing you are getting a snippet of the character's lives, a good short story full of romance, intrigue, and you'll love this anthology! I know I was enchanted by these stories that were well-written, clean, and entertaining.

This is my first time writing for the Timeless Romance series. I thought it was a challenge to "write short", but ended up tying a loose end up in my last book Lord Trowbridge's Angel. I told Melissa's story. Readers will be very surprised about what happens to Sophie's best friend and her cavalier!

Heather's story is also a spin off from Heart of the Ocean and is very clever and engaging. Can't say I've ever thought what would happen if I climbed over a hotel balcony in the wee hours . . . maybe I'll have to try it!

War of Hearts by Annette Lyon - 3 ⭐️ I enjoyed the part about the h’s passion for her job as a journalist more than the romance. This story packs a lot of information for such a short story. It made me want to learn more about the Winter War and the “Sausage War”.

The Earl of Oaksey Takes a Wife by G.G. Vandagriff - 1 ⭐️The female MC is immature and the male MC is even more immature. He is inconsiderate, insensitive, selfish and even more foolish than the h. The h being ignorant of his financial difficulties is understandable, him neglecting his wife is unforgivable.

Gift of Love by Michele Paige Holmes - 2 ⭐️ It would be better if it is more subtle. I could see the twist miles away.

A Lesson in Love by Sarah M. Eden - 4 ⭐️ This is the right way to write a short story imho. It’s not rushed. There’s even character growth for both main characters. The main issue is resolved satisfactorily. The HEA is believable. Why not 5 stars?

An Ocean Away by Heather B. Moore - 3 ⭐️ The instalove just didn’t work for me this time but I still enjoyed Ms. Moore’s writing. There is a conflict that was not resolved.

What Happens in Venice by Nancy Campbell Allen - 3.5 ⭐️ *swoons* The instalove worked for me. It might be because of the fairytale-like atmosphere.

Between 3 1/2 and 4 stars.

This is the first time I read one of the Timeless Romance Anthologies. I'm familiar with all the authors, and some of them are my favorite in the genres they write.

I usually prefer full-length novels and didn't quite know what to expect from these. Overall, I liked all six stories. They're short and very quick to read, which I know is the aim of this anthology. I also liked the European settings, the time periods of the stories, and the cast of characters. The heroines were strong and the heroes attractive, as they should. The romantic elements of each story were very sweet, albeit a bit rushed (which I understand couldn't be helped given the average length of about 15 thousand words). I think this collection will appeal to anyone who likes to read novellas and historical romances. It's the perfect combination of that.

I only have an observation regarding the first story, 'War of Hearts'. It's set in WWII. While some may argue with my opinion, I don't think it should have been included in this historical anthology. All the other stories are set in the 18th and 19th centuries, and that forms a theme to the anthology. Although historical, of course, 'War of Hearts' is from a much more recent period that doesn't go along with the others. It would be more suited for an anthology with a war love stories theme, or even a mid-century theme (think 40s-50s-60s kind of collection). Just a suggestion.

War of Hearts by Annette Lyon - 2 stars...Seemed more like a depressing biography about a couple during war time. Not my cup of tea.

The Earl of Oaksey Takes a Wife by G.G. Vandagriff - 2 stars...This was okay. The h was overly dramatic and unreasonable. While the H gave up way too quickly which resulted in the story being sad and angsty.

Gift of Love by Michele Paige Holmes - 4 stars...Lovely story and very interesting plot. There was also a bit of suspense that made the story even more appealing. Ethan and Amelia’s relationship was sweet and I loved their interactions with Lizbeth. They were a cute little family.

A Lesson in Love by Sarah M. Eden - 4 stars...I loved this story. Lucy and Reed were so cute. I enjoyed the back and forth between the husbands and wives. But I mostly love how Reed and Lucy were able to meet each other halfway by making a few compromises.

An Ocean Away by Heather B. Moore - 3.5 stars...Cute retelling of Romeo and Juliet.

What Happens in Venice by Nancy Campbell Allen - 4.5 stars...”Be still my heart.” My favorite story in this collection. Matteo and Evangeline were beautiful characters. I wish it were a full length novel. The plot was intriguing, the romantic tension was swoon worthy. Thoroughly enjoyed this one!

This is a compilation of six historical novellas, each one a little different, but something for every romance-lover.

The first one, War of Hearts, was set during a war in Finland and while the setting was well done and the characters well-written, I just couldn't get into the story. It's about a woman who is sent to report on the war and she finds out her ex-boyfriend who just dumped her, is also her photographer.

The second one was The Earl of Oaksey Takes a Wife and it's a little spinoff of G.G. Vandagriff's story, Lord Trowbridge's Angel. We find out what happens to Melissa when there's a misunderstanding with her new husband and she finds out he is penniless and only married her for her money. Working it out has a few surprising twists and turns for the couple!

The third one, Gift of Love, was one of my favorites. It's the story about a man who has lost three wives and cannot even bear to think of loving someone else. His friend Stuart convinces him to marry his sister who has been in a convent all this time, so he has someone to care for his daughter. I loved the tentative understanding between the main characters and how love finally blossoms. I really wish this one had been full length because it was so very well done.

The fourth one was A Lesson in Love. Lucy and Reed seem happily married, but both are upset when they realize that they don't see eye to eye on attending social functions now that they are wed. The extended family steps in to "help" the situation and there are some funny situations that arise. Some really cute scenes and a sweet ending.

The fifth one was An Ocean Away. This one was sigh-worthy. Gina sneaks out to read novels in the garden, but her handsome neighbor catches her. They share some breathless moments until Gina's father finds out who she's been associating with---his enemy! A really great read that I loved!

The sixth one was What Happens in Venice and though it was hard to choose, I think this one was my favorite. Mysterious and romantic with a hero to die for. Evangeline is in Venice with her horrid step-family, but she's trying to enjoy the trip anyway. She meets a fellow art lover and spends some quality time with him. A mini-mystery unfolds with danger and villains rearing up to meet our hero and heroine at every turn. Love, love, loved this story!

Six great authors. Six great stories. Another great collection!

War of Hearts by Annette Lyon – This was such an interesting novella! It is full of history as well as romance. I didn’t know anything about the Winter War. I always enjoy history better when there’s some romance to go with it. ;) There is an Author’s Note at the end of the story that is worth the read.

The Earl of Oaksey by G.G. Vandagriff – Everything starts out well for Melissa and Thomas in this sweet novella, but that changes quickly. They truly did love each other, and I ached for them when misunderstandings came between them. The ending was wonderful!

Gift of Love by Michele Paige Holmes – I loved Amelia! She is so sweet and good. And has some spunk! She was really good for Ethan, and I loved watching them come together. I also enjoyed the bit of mystery in the story.

Lesson in Love by Sarah M. Eden – So cute! Oh, the problems family can cause! I loved the back and forth as the women and the men competed for dominance. It was wonderful to see the love Reed and Lucy had for each other, even if things were a little crazy between them for a while. I loved the ending!!

An Ocean Away by Heather B. Moore – Oh, I just loved this novella! Gina was full of life! The romance books she loved to read inspired imaginings of romantic settings, heroes and storylines everywhere she looked. It was so fun to read! And she found her hero in Edmund. I would love to know what happens next with them!

What Happens in Venice by Nancy Campbell Allen – I am a sucker for fairy tale retellings! This is a wonderful Cinderella story! And so romantic!! I think I swooned and sighed my way through the whole thing.

I really enjoyed this collection & will definitely be getting the rest of the Anthologies! If you like historical fiction, this is a great compilation of short stories to read any time you have a few minutes....but I couldn't put it down and read the whole thing in one sitting!
The first story, War of Hearts, takes place during the war in Finland in the 1900's, while the rest of the anthology is full of stories from the 1700-1800's. It was a sweet story, but seemed slightly out of place.
The second story, The Earl of Oaksey Takes a Wife, was a sweet story about a couple after they elope. A cute, quick read.
The third, Gift of Love, is about a young woman who marries a man whom she has never met. She will be his 3rd wife, so she isn't willing to go through with it until she finds out he has a little girl that desperately needs a mom. It was a good read & I would have loved it to be a full length novel! What a fun read.
The fourth story, A Lesson in Love, reads a lot like Eden's other novels. I laughed out loud more than once!
An Ocean Away, the 5th story was super! I LOVED it. What a great story, which I would have loved to have been longer!
The final story, What Happens in Venice, was amazing! I would absolutely buy a full length novel of this Cinderella story.

I have found a new love in these wonderful novellas! They are the perfect romance tales with strong characters and clean plot lines. Splendidly written, each story fully satisfies just like a full-length novel.

In the newest series, A European Collection, six fabulous authors have teamed up to produce a superb collection of stories.

Each of the time periods in these novellas vary which I found interesting and I loved "visiting" different parts of Europe with each character. I loved how Annette Lyon drew in history from Finland during the war. G.G. Vandagriff took me back to an era of carriages and ball gowns. Michelle Paige Holmes brings an element of mystery and suspense with her tale of romance. Sarah Eden delights with her usual wit and charm that make me wish I could meet all of her lovely characters. Heather Moore spun a beautiful tale in France with perhaps my favorite heroine of the series. And Nancy Campbell Allen draws an intriguing love story in Venice surrounded by the beauty and mystery of art.

I love these Timeless Romance Collections. I have read every single one of them because they are always filled with short stories from authors that I love. I know when I start reading these books I will find little bits of humor, intrigue and romantic happiness. What could be better than that?!

At first I had thought that I would pick my favorite one and tell you about it, but I just cannot pick. That's like picking a favorite child and it just cannot be done. There is no such thing. I loved all these different stories. These are amazing and gifted writers that really know how to deliver romance in a clean and fulfilling way.

Reading this made me happy. It was such a good diversion. I wish every one of these stories could made into full length novels. That is always the downside to short stories. I'm never ready for them to end and I always want more. :)

This is my second experience with A Timeless Romance Anthology. As with the Winter Collection, this one doesn't disappoint. The short historical fiction stories can be read one at a time, or all at once. I read them in one sitting, because I just couldn't put it down. The authors are all very talented, and I enjoy their full-length fiction in their respective genres. Their short fiction stays true the quality I'd expect from the regular books. The tales themselves are full of romance and interesting historical settings such as Venice, a battlefield of World War II, and the flurry of 18th century London Society. The characters charmed me with their unique and diverse personalities and quirks.

The first book was good, but the second by Vandagriff was hokey. Too silly for me, and the storyline was very similar to another book I read a long time ago.
Eden's story was the sweetest little romance. Very clean and fun. I love Eden's writing style. This story was about compromise in marriage to keep both parties happy. Very well written.
H. B. Moore's story was very cute, romantic, and clean. Her father is suing him, but she can't resist. Will they be together in the end? I liked the writing style, and the storyline was very cute.

I always love these collections of short stories from some of my favorite authors! This group was made up of stories that are all historical romances set somewhere in Europe. I liked how in a couple of the stories the main characters were already married -- it gave a slightly different perspective than usual. Things develop quickly in some stories, too, but that's not unexpected given their short length.

I love the regency area and these are all set back in the regency. There is even a story about an arranged marriage and those are my favorite kinds. I have read all the anthology's now and this is by far my favorite. They are a collection of short stories that are clean and have no religious themes. A very fun read:}

This is a collection of 6 historical romance stories by different authors. Timeless Romance Anthologies are collections of various types. Generally, there are 6 different authors writing about one particular genre (Old West, Regency, Valentine's Day, etc.). They are always marketed as clean romances and new stories (written for that compilation).

Lately, this company has started printing books with only 3 stories, though each is a longer novella (yes, there's shrinkage everywhere).

WAR OF HEARTS (Annette Lyon) --
Anna, a reporter, has been sent to Finland in 1939 to observe and report on (what would later be called) the Winter War. This conflict between Stalin and the Finns was supposed to be a walk in the park for the Russians. But the Finns surprised the Soviets. I know quite a bit about this war and the author did a marvelous job of using it as a backdrop for her story.

THE EARL OF OAKSEY TAKES A WIFE (G G Vandagriff) --
'Those who marry in haste can regret at their leisure" is the premise of this story. It is well-told and certainly kept my interest.

GIFT OF LOVE (Michele Paige Holmes) --
Ethan Moorleigh is devastated by the death of his third wife (during the birth of their daughter, Lizbeth). Three years later, Ethan is still grieving but his best friend convinces him to marry his third wife's cousin (currently living in a monastery, getting ready to take her vows). Amelia wakes both Lizbeth and Ethan out of their doldrums. There's also a mystery.

A LESSON IN LOVE (Sarah M Eden) --
A couple, fairly newly married, hit a rough patch when Lucy wants to go out each night and Reed wants to stay at home. Lucy's family gets involved and the fun begins. Light-hearted fun.

AN OCEAN AWAY (Heather B Moore) --
Gina, the daughter of a wealthy shipper, meets her father's biggest enemy. Edmund is closing out his deceased wife's affairs in France when he meets Gina by chance. Edmund's previous marriage was one of convenience; he will only accept a real relationship in the future. Gina takes a terrible gamble to find happiness.

WHAT HAPPENS IN VENICE (Nancy Campbell Allen) --
The story of Evangeline and Matteo is a delightful fairy tale. Not to be missed, this story turns Cinderella slightly askew.
**
Generally, I score stories in an anthology from favorite to least. However, these stories were uniformly top-drawer stuff. I rarely give an anthology a five-star rating; this one deserves that and more!

Predictable and simple.

Each story is a little different. None of them are terrible, but some are better than others. They are all short and simple with fairly predictable storylines. Easy to read. It is fairly ridiculous when I read a story where the couple fall in love in literally hours and not only decide to get married but somehow trust each other implicitly. Or worse, they require others to talk for them and solve their problems for them. Real love and strong relationships don’t work that way, but then again when you read a very short romance you can’t really expect too much and if the couple didn’t fall in love in a romance it wouldn’t be a romance at all.

I love this collection.

A handful of representative quotes:

"You never gave me the chance to choose. You just...left."

"All of London knew of my debts. Of course that is why I married you."

A fun and interesting collection of novellas set in Europe. The first story felt a bit out of place but was still sweet. I really loved the last three, though they felt rushed. My one complaint is that, as much as I love romantic stories, some of these felt too ... physical. Kissing is great, but I just don’t need a blow by blow. I’d rather get to know the characters more.

Enjoyable

Not my favorite one, but very enjoyable. I have to admit my rating might be affected by the long stretches of time I was not able to read. I lost track of the storyline and just wasn’t as invested in the first couple of stories. I still think this book was worth my time.

Not my fav, but some good ones still

I’ve been reading a lot of these anthologies recently (my library has all of them on ebook and most of them are actually available during quarantine). I didn’t enjoy this one as much as most of the others. There were a few stories her I enjoyed, but several of them just didn’t work for me plot wise. But still, I really liked the last two.
