West Oaks Heroes #6

The One for Forever

Rate this book
He's the older man I've always wanted. An ex-Special Forces hero. My best friend’s dad.
And now, he's the bodyguard assigned to protect me while I prosecute a killer.

I’ve wanted Rex Easton since I was eighteen, yet he’s never looked at me twice. I’m determined to finally get over this crush. But after he swears to protect me from the faceless thugs who are after me, I can’t avoid him.

The more time I spend with Rex, the more I’m convinced he’s the best man I’ve ever known. This handsome hero takes care of me in a way no one else ever has.

I’m not just the girl next door anymore. I’m a successful woman with her own life and career. If only he’d notice me as more than his son’s friend. But it’s hopeless.

Even if I survive until the verdict, there's no way my heart will. When it comes to Rex Easton, I'm doomed.

Unless he somehow opens his eyes to the woman I am.

Expect an honorable alpha protector who takes care of his woman in every way, a strong heroine who knows what she wants (and finally gets it), and a slow burn that leads into scorching steam. This is the low angst, high heat finale to the West Oaks Heroes series!

Long review ahead.

I don't know how to rate this book. I liked the suspense part; it was actually cool, and I liked how everything panned out after Quinn solved the case. I also liked the bodyguard romance aspect; Rex was really good at this job.

As for the romance, I have to say that the sexual tension is off the charts, and the smut is really hooooot, like, honest to goodness, ohmaygaaaawd! But then I was also cringing while the romance was progressing.

Rex (49) has known Quinn (28) since she was a teenager, and she's his son's best friend. She also used to stay with them because her parents were uncaring adults and were always away. Rex's and his late wife, Lydia, accepted Quinn into their family. Lydia probably considers her a pseudo-daughter, but it wasn't described that way. Yet it was the impression I got since she's friends with Cliff, their son.

Anyway, when Quinn and Cliff were 18, Lydia suddenly passed away because of a stroke. Through this bereavement, Quinn was there for Cliff and Rex, and after a few months, I think, she developed a crush on Rex, a crush that is still as strong as ever even after a decade has gone by.

Then, in the present time, which is ten years later, Quinn was assigned to a murder case and was the second chair with the DA. But there were a lot of threats specifically targeting her, which is why Rex became her bodyguard.

Have I mentioned that the romance was hot? Because it is, like, waaaay too hot. The chemistry between these two is so thick! I can't find any fault in that. But I also said that it made me cringe and gave me the ick at the same time, because it really did.

You see, Rex loved his late wife—like, truly loved her. Lydia was his childhood sweetheart and the love of his life. I have to read for the majority of the book how much he loved her and the life that they had before she died. And honestly, as a reader, I really felt that love, and it made me annoyed so much. 😐 He didn't date after her and thought he wasn't ready to try something new with anyone for the longest time. He said he's not grieving anymore and has made peace with the fact that she's no longer around.

Then, when Rex and Quinn finally gave in to the attraction, I had to be reminded that the easygoing nature he has with Quinn is the same as that of his late wife. Lydia's pictures are still up in his house and in the beach house he bought after her death. He doesn't have any plans to take them down; he will only add more pictures of Quinn. 😑

They've been sleeping in a room where he used to sleep with his late wife. He said he didn't give much thought to it because there had been a few women over the years who slept in it as well. 😑 Don't get me wrong, he's not a hoe. His activities were few and far between; he also said he could live his life without sex. 🤷‍♀️ But of course he's still a man and has needs at times.

And the thing that I didn't like the most? He said he's lucky to have TWO GREAT LOVES in his life and that he would always love Lydia. And Quinn, the ever-loving, understanding FMC, is definitely okay with that. Well, I'm not, and I don't know how to get over the annoyance. Maybe it does really happen to some people in real life; good for them, I guess. But I don't want that in my fiction. 😭

I want his love for Quinn to be more consuming, or something bigger, like he had never felt before. I want her to be more than his late wife. Because, the way I see it, Quinn's second best; she may be his present and probably future, but she is still on the same level as Lydia, probably lower. If she had not died, this couple wouldn't happen AT ALL!

I wish I could hate Lydia, but she was described as a great mother and wife. I'm really pissed that the dead lover is so nice that I can't hate her. And honestly, with every chapter and every reminder of her, I think a part of my soul dies. I wish I could buy the romance between Rex and Quinn, but I just don't have it in me. I do believe he loves Quinn in his own way, but it's not convincing because part of him will always be reserved for Lydia, and I hate it that Quinn won't have him as a whole.

Anywaaaay, as for the suspense and mystery, I totally enjoyed it. I had fun guessing whom to trust and who was lying. I always like the action part when it comes to romantic suspense books, and this one didn't disappoint.

Overall, if readers are into suspense, they should read this. As for the romance, the smut was definitely hot, and I'm here for it. But as for the actual connection between the MCs, I'm not convinced by it. Other readers might feel differently about it, though.

This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the sixth book in the West Oaks Heroes series. I have read the first book in this series before picking up this book, but you can read this book as a standalone without any problems. This book also has characters from the Bennett Security series by Hannah Shield which I have read the whole series of. I loved getting more from the Bennett Security characters. I loved all the twists and turns in this book. This book is packed with action, suspense with some romance and steamy times. The romance was good, but I really loved the suspense and mystery going on in this book. Well written and great read. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

4.25⭐️

I may have skipped 2 books but this might be my favorite book in this series. I know what to expect in Hannah Shield's writing and I liked how it didn't fail to surprises me. But honestly, I picked this up mostly because of the cover model (hehe oops) and the age gap trope. And I'm just glad that it did not disappoint.

Rex and Quinn looks so hot together. Some cheesy lines here and there too but I don't mind. I liked how they are together and I enjoyed reading about them. Especially those spicy scenes? HOT.

A story that you can read on its own or after previous parts in this series. This book focuses on Rex, father of her best friend and bodyguard, and Quinn, assistant prosecutor.
She has been asked to support Lana (a character from an earlier part) in an important case against a beautiful, young actress accused of murdering her rich husband. She is fully committed to this cause, but threats have been received addressed to her. Safety comes first, so it has been decided that Quinn needs more protection and that is where Rex comes into the picture.
As a young girl she had a crush on the widower and father of her best friend. But after 10 years she has realized that Rex only sees her as his son's girlfriend and not the woman she is and has decided to stop following her heart to a dead end. But now that Rex is the one who has to protect her, the emotions of both change. Rex comes to see her as she is now, a capable, smart and caring woman and he struggles with his feelings. Until an attack on Quinn sets everything in motion and he realizes there is more. He struggles with the age difference, convinced that he would deprive her of a lot by entering into a relationship. Surprised when he realizes that Quinn has been thinking of him as a lifelong partner for years.

While Rex tries to save Quinn from danger, Quinn sometimes seeks it out because she wants to continue the lawsuit.
A story follows with dangerous and exciting moments, loving moments, emotional moments but always healthy tension that keeps you in the story. And of course there will be a special denouement for a great ending!

Wonderful book and highly recommended for people who love a good story in which the reader is challenged to think about the outcome AND a romantic story with strong personalities.

Ahhh! I'm such a mess right now!!

Why you ask? Because not only is this read a fun, engaging mystery - it's also a steamy "silver fox" age gap, best friend's dad, former military turned bodyguard, AND my first introduction to this author!! Things I enjoy reading.
How did I miss reading this author for so long?!

Moving forward, I'm righting my wrong!! And you should too, if you haven't already enjoyed reading this author.

So, spoiler free - Quinn is (in high school) best friends with Cliff. Based on their friendship, Quinn has always been around. No big deal, until time passes, Quinn grows up and needs a bodyguard.

Rex is surprised when he finds out that the stunning woman he is tasked to protect is Quinn, his son's best friend. Even more surprised when Quinn admits her crush on him goes back years.
Complicated!!

This is easy to read, and connect with the characters. There's a lot going on in the different areas of the storyline, and it's easy to lose track of time. The chemistry between these two is steamy and addictive. I really appreciated how things resolved for everyone, and the HEA for them.

I grabbed this free ARC from Booksirens. Now I need to go back to the beginning of this series and backbuild the West Oaks world. Not a hardship, at all. I'm happy to leave my review, and look forward to reading the next one.

The One for Forever was the last in this series and I’m sad. I loved West Oaks and grew up in sunny California. This was an Age Gap, bodyguard trope and it was well done. I enjoy HS because she writes of conflict but it’s not over the top. And she’s really the only author that writes romantic suspense the way I like. These two were adorable and I love a man who can give a good massage. I recommend reading this one and I’m excited about the next series.
Thanks to BookSirens and the author for my eArc. Happy Release Day 💗

This was a quick, fun, and sexy read! I enjoyed the suspense and no one can say Hannah Shield doesn't know how to write a hot love scene. But I found it difficult to get on board with the romance between the main characters. It's not so much the difference in their ages as the fact that Rex was Quinn's best friend's dad and knew her when she was in high school. It just had an ick factor that made me feel vaguely uncomfortable when reading. I'm sure this kind of thing happens in real life, but even so, I'm sure a lot of people would be kind of grossed out by it. Sure, it's not unusual for high school kids to have crushes on cute teachers or friends' parents, but to have that crush persist so long after the fact didn't feel realistic to me. I think if the two characters had met outside of that already established relationship, it would have felt more authentic.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Quinn and Rex have known each other for years but reciprocating romantic feelings don't develop (at least on Rex's part) until they are forced into closer proximity. When Quinn takes on a case that puts her in danger, Rex is assigned as her bodyguard and things pretty much heat up from there.

I liked this one, it was a sweet slow burn romance. It could have been overflowing with angst and drama but I liked that the author took a different approach to Rex and Quinn. I liked that they didn't use cheap tricks or excuses to give into their attraction. They talked about and they discussed what was happening, what they expected out of the relationship and how that relationship could and would effect their family and work lives. It was refreshing and a healthy depiction of a relationship we don't always see in romances.

For the safety gang, this one teeters on the brink with dead spouse feelings. I've left some particularly goose bump inducing quotes in the spoilers for reference. Overall it was too bad and I'll be the first to admit that I've become a smidge more tolerable to OW/OM drama so although I would have preferred no mention of the dead wife, let alone a slightly icky moment where Quinn seeks approval for said dead wife, it didn't completely ruin the book for me so I'd say that is major progress. I honestly think it would have been DNF as soon as I found out Quinn knew and was close to Rex's wife before her untimely death. It just gives a level of intimacy that would lead to feelings of betrayal or guilt that I don't really look for in romance.

Overall this was a good read. Both characters are emotionally independent, mature and solid in who and what they are to each other. There are no mind games, guilt trips or blame games and I think that was what I liked most about this read.

This is a book I couldn’t wait to read. A couple of books in this series have hinted at Quinn’s crush on Rex, the father of her best friend. This book finally tells the whole story…..and oh what a story it is. When Rex, his wife Lydia and his son Cliff moved in next door, Quinn was just a teenager. She immediately became best friends with Cliff and was a great friend and support to both Rex and Cliff when Lydia died suddenly. Rex and Cliff offered their own support and assistance to Quinn when her rather neglectful and indifferent parents did not. But Quinn stopped thinking of Rex as a surrogate father figure years ago. Instead she thinks of him in terms of the man she would love to spend her future with, even though she believes he will never see her as anything other than his son’s best friend. For the past decade that has been the case, but that all changes just when Quinn decides it is time to move on and put her impossible crush behind her.

Quinn is now a deputy district attorney and is about to be second chair in a high-profile celebrity murder trial. Unfortunately, the defendant has used social media to garner a following who are now issuing threats against Quinn and her boss. Both are in need of protection and since her boss’s husband owns Bennett Security, he will be leading the security team for his wife and has assigned Rex to be in charge of security for Quinn. Rex has worked at least part-time for Bennett Security since he left the military just before his wife’s death. He is more than happy to take on this new assignment to keep Quinn safe. He considers her to be family and will do everything in his power to keep her safe. Seeing her dressed in formal wear opens his eyes to the fact that she is no longer a teenager. She is definitely all grown up and stunningly beautiful, though the attraction he now feels toward her makes him very uncomfortable. That changes when an incident shows him how deep his feelings for Quinn go.

Quinn is happy to have him in charge of security since she knows him, but spending so much time near her is going to test her control. Both are are very aware of the attraction they are trying to hide from each other, then suddenly there is a spurt of jealousy, a stolen kiss, then a make out session that sends him running and leaves her confused and hurting. Everything changes when Quinn is hurt and Rex realizes that his feelings go deeper than attraction. He wants to claim Quinn as his own, despite the two decade age difference, and the fact that she is best friends with his son. Quinn’s admission of her long held crush spurs him to action. As they investigate who is behind the threats and the circumstances around the murder case she will be trying, Quinn is staying with Rex under his protection and care. Things get very intimate, very steamy and then very complicated when their secret is exposed. Will this be the end of their relationship or will they fight to be together?

Quinn and Rex effortlessly drew me into their story. They are both wary about opening their hearts, and hurting Cliff is something they both worry about. Their story is rather tangled, absolutely fascinating and riveting. The familiar characters from the previous books and series written by this author make reading this book even more interesting and enjoyable. I would happily recommend this book to those who love suspenseful romances.

The One For Forever is the sixth and final book in West Oaks Heroes series. It can be read as a standalone in an interconnected series of standalones. What a page-turner and absolutely phenomenal ending to this series. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this enthralling, extremely fun, engrossing, edge of the seat, gripping book. Riveting and engaging storyline with brilliant, complex characters that will make a reader tear up, go through unexpected twists and turns and warm heart. The One For Forever is the perfect blend of humour, tension, age gap, forbidden deliciousness, danger and great romance.

Quinn is Deputy District Attorney handling the biggest case in her life: prosecuting a killer, when the team is being threatened. Her boss arranges for her to have a bodyguard, none other then Rex Easton. After losing his wife, Rex has thrown himself into his job and became closed off. Becoming Quinn's bodyguard and meeting her again after all these years make it one complicated situation.
Quinn and Rex pulled me effortlessly into their story. I've been waiting a long time to read about these two and they didn't disappoint. The mystery and suspense flowing through their love story add another layer to their development and relationship. Their love story has a build-up and happens gradually. They are both complex, flawed characters. The crossover with characters from previous books was beautifully interwoven. Quinn and Rex's relationship is very fascinating, testing loyalties through darkness and plot twists that are so skillfully interwoven and crafted masterfully with slow-building tension, romance and suspense.

With every page, the story gets more intriguing and has the reader rooting for the happy ending. Don't miss out on this masterpiece.

Keeping Her Safe . . .

Back on prom night, the cab driver looked at Quinn in her fancy dress with mascara running down her face since she couldn’t stop the tears. Apparently getting dumped by her date Landon for another girl in the middle of prom didn’t go over well, so she quickly left. Her best friend Cliff texted her when he saw Landon with someone else and Quinn was nowhere around. He was ready to leave the dance and run to help her, but that wasn’t fair to his own date. Arriving home, the whole house was dark since her parents were away for the weekend. She sat on the porch rather than go inside. Then Rex Easton, a professional bodyguard and Cliff’s dad, parked next door and came over to see what was wrong. Rex had always been protective and kind. She always hoped she would find a good person like Rex to love one day. He returned to his truck and brought back a bucket of fried chicken, asking her to share with him. The touch of his fingers as he passed her some napkins surprised her. Then he made sure she went inside and returned to his own home. She already knew she had a crush on him.

Ten years later, Quinn Ainsley, Deputy District Attorney, is preparing for a high profile murder trial. She will be assisting her boss, Lana Marchetti, whose husband Max Bennett owns Bennett Security. She is assigned a bodyguard when threats occur which reunites her with Rex Easton who doesn’t even recognize her at first. As Rex and his boss Max walk toward Lana and Quinn, Rex spots a guy dressed well but with scuffed shoes heading toward the ladies as well. He gives a shout and tackles the guy who shouts, “Free Amber!!” The publicity stunt is probably already on social media, and the man should never have gotten into the event! Will Quinn and Rex be drawn together with the proximity of having him as her bodyguard? Would it lead anywhere? Or just remain a sweet memory?

The author did a great job with this story line. Her main characters are very likable, especially Rex and Cliff. And there is so much more going on which will definitely keep the reader’s full attention. Be sure to grab a copy of this one. It also brings in some familiar friends you’ll love seeing again if you followed this series.

Maybe a hair under 4 stars.

Finally, the One! I feel like I've been waiting a long time for the last book in this six-part series. And, for the most part, I'm satisfied. Quinn and Rex are decent heroes, characters who've appeared here and there in previous books, so it's nice for them to get a story. That said...

Gah, I just didn't feel much chemistry between them. I don't think it's the age-gap trope that bothered me (though I don't typically care for it, which makes me a giant hypocrite, ahem, but that's a personal story that doesn't belong here). I think maybe it skirts the yick factor a couple of times; I wish Rex would avoid pet names like "naughty girl," but at least Quinn never calls him Daddy. No, mostly it's that lack of chemistry. She's been lusting over her BFF's dad for a decade, but even when they begin spending time together in the present, there's not really any getting to know each other. I think it needed to be a bit more gradual, and maybe it would've been better if she hadn't been in love/lust with him for so long. Yes, I think that's it—thanks for letting me talk it out, lol. It would have felt better for me if their past was him seeing her as his kid's friend and her seeing him simply as her friend's admittedly hot dad (maybe even ruthlessly teasing Cliff about it). Then, when they come together again as adults, it's more of a "hey, whaddya know" moment, a dawning awareness.

Other than that, the suspense is okay if not particularly riveting. Seeing familiar characters from previous books in the series (and from a couple of others) is fun, though I kind of have forgotten the details of those relationships.

In short, I adore Hannah Shield even if I don't fully adore every book in every series. She writes fun characters. I'm just hoping that whoever comes next, they have the chemistry that Shelby and Nash had (Book 2, Five Minute Mistake).

I received an ARC of this book for free from the author and BookSirens. I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion. Thanks!

I always love reading Shield’s novels, especially when we get a good trial out of it. What a page-turner this one was – it had me from the beginning. This one was a little reminiscent of the very first Bennett Security where we first met Devon and Aurora and that was honestly, kind of nice. Like Devon, Rex Easton works as bodyguard at Bennett Security and after Quinn finds herself as the target for a murder case she is working on, there’s nothing to go about it but have Rex be her bodyguard. The only thing is that she’s had a crush on him for quite the lifetime and not to mention this was her best friend, Cliff’s father. But when Rex finally sees her beyond his son’s best friend, things take a turn. Their chemistry is off the charts and with how Shield takes on this trope, things are not awkward as it could be. We get to see a side of Rex that really is just reserved for those close to him, and even then, is rare. But Quinn brings that out of him. I also love that while some novels paint a bad picture of a deceased spouse, here we have Rex who really is just a wonderful man who appreciated the love he was able to have with his deceased wife and it doesn’t come off as jealousy in Quinn. But that isn’t all what the story is about. Every time you read a novel from Hannah Shield, expect thriller and suspense. Quinn is currently taking on a murder trial with our beloved Lana and this trial keeps your head turning. You really get the best part of both romance and suspense. Shield always delivers and never disappoints. There were also so many cameos! That’s always something special. With each book, the story just keeps getting better and better and soon you find yourself down his rabbit hole of this universe that you never want to climb out of. Everything from the characters to the story to the true aspects of how a trial is organized – there’s nothing to describe just how wonderful this world is. Hannah Shield has gifted us with a universe that hits all the cravings.

This is the sixth and last book in this wonderful series. I've been impatiently waiting for Quinn and Rex' story and Hannah didn't disappoint.

Quinn is an assistant DA handeling the biggest case in her life when the team is being threatened. When things escalate and the threats are more pointed in her direction, her boss arranges for her to have a bodyguard and that is none other than Rex. He's the father of her best friend Cliff and she's had a crush on him for about 10 years.

After losing his wife, Rex has thrown himself into his job as a bodyguard and volunteer for Team Triumph. He's known Quinn for years and has always seen her as his son's best friend. But when he's assigned as her bodyguard and meets her again after several years apart, he realises she's not that little girl anymore, but a grown up gorgeous woman.

This is an age gap story (Quinn is 28, Rex 49), and while I'm not really a fan of the trope, it never felt as if they weren't equally mature. It's a slow burn, but once they give in to their feelings things heat up the pages. There wasn't any unnecessary drama between the MC's, they communicated and even when Cliff found out about them, things are talked through.

The suspense part keeps you on your toes and makes you want to find out who's behind all the threats.

There are appearances from characters of other books, especially from her Bennett Security series, which I haven't read yet. But I'll be sure to remedy that as I've already got them waiting on my e-reader to start binge reading.

I really love this authors writing style and I can't wait to get my hands on the next book.

The One for Forever concludes the countdown and brings the West Oaks Heroes series to a close. While it can be read as a standalone, I'd recommend reading the books in order for the background on the main characters. The tropes for the romance - age-gap and falling for a best friend's Dad - are not my favourites. If not for the fact that I've read and enjoyed all of this author's books and this is part of a wonderful series, I might not have picked it up. Which would have been a mistake! I was very pleasantly surprised by the skillful way Rex and Quinn's budding relationship came to life on the pages, transitioning from a crush on her part and from friendship and caring to attraction and dawning awareness of her as an independent woman on his, without the awkwardness I'd half expected to feel. Kudos also for the way the best friend angle with Cliff is woven in! The chemistry between Quinn and Rex is not as explosive as for some couples in other books, nor is the suspense part non-stop action. Instead, it's a sort of slower-paced, quieter book that still has a number of adrenaline-spiking incidents as well as a mixture of tender and steamy scenes between the main characters. Fitting for the finale are the cameo appearances from all the couples, not just from this but from the Bennett Security series as well. There's also a connection to the new series Last Refuge Protectors and so I hope that we'll catch glimpses of the West Oaks bunch occassionally. I'm a big fan of this author and she has proven yet again that romantic suspense can include all sorts of relationships successfully. This book will join the others on my keeper shelf!.

I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a complimentary copy. Rex Easton works for Bennett security as a body guard, he has a grown son, Cliff. Cliff is best friends with Quinn. Quinn spends all of her time over at the Easton house because her parents are not involved at all. Rex, his wife Lydia and Cliff are caring and open their home to her. Lydia passes away from a stroke and Quinn helps Cliff and Rex. Prom night turns out to be a nightmare for Quinn and she ends up going home. Rex finds her and they end up talking and she realizes that she has a crush on him.

Roughly 10 years have past. Quinn is an assist DA working a murder case when she and her boss Lana have been getting threats. Lana's husband Max are from Bennet Security series - book 2 Head First, Max puts security on both Lana and Quinn. Rex becomes Quinn's bodyguard.

Quinn's feelings for Rex have not changed in fact they have grown and she had tried avoiding him through the years but now she is face to face with him everyday. Rex has not had any romantic feelings for Quinn until he spends time with her getting to know the adult woman she has grown into.

Rex and Quinn decide they are going to explore these feelings for each other when Cliff catches them. Cliff is not happy at first but Quinn helps him see the light. Cliff and Rex have a semi rocky relationship more on Cliff's part then Rex's. Will Rex's and Quinn's relationship push the father and son further apart or help them grow closer?

As the murder trial starts and the threats grow closer will they figure out who is stalking Quinn? Will Quinn and Lana win the trail? Will Rex and Quinn get thier HEA?.

This is the final book in the West Oaks series. There are common characters throughout the series but in no way do you need to have read the others, it works just as well as a stand alone.

Rex and Quinn are both side characters that are introduced earlier in the series, and we have been made aware of Quinn's longing for Rex - but he still sees her as his Son's best friend.

When Rex is assigned to guard her during an upcoming trial, he suddenly sees what has been in front of him all along.

Lets address the one thing that I can imagine may put people off - the age gap. Rex is 49 and Quinn 28 - but the admiration is completely one sided until the events of this book. Rex and Cliff moved next-door when Quinn was 18, so there is no interaction between them when Quinn was a child. By the time we get to this books timeline, Quinn has become an established, capable, independent career woman. In my opinion this means the 'ick' factor, which can be present in some age gap romances, wasn't an issue here.

Rather than a 'romantic suspence', Hannah's books are so good (with a fully fleshed out plot, twists and turns galore) they are really thrillers with a romantic element.

I have binged my way through this series and enjoyed every story along the way. The angst / peril comes from external sources, rather than between the main characters, and communication between Quinn and Rex is done in a mature way. Although the plot is intricate and detailed, there's no dragging of time or complications just for the hell of it. Excellent ending to a great series.

I will absolutely be reading anything else Hannah releases, she has become on of my 'go to' authors in the field of romantic suspense.

5⭐️

The final book. Yes this is a standalone, but I recommend reading the whole series..if only because they are so good.

Quinn grew up pretty much without any supervision. Her parents were always gone and didn’t take any real interest in her. That is why she spent most of her time next door, with her best friend, Cliff. Now they are adults and are still bff. Quinn is a lawyer and trying a very public case. Due to all the media attention, and now some threats coming in, that has earned her a bodyguard. Not just any bodyguard, her bf Cliff’s father, Rex. Of course Quinn trusts him explicitly but a little known fact that one else knows, she has loved him for over a decade.

Rex, a retired military guy, now works security with Bennett. Work is pretty much his life as his wife passed over a decade ago. But here recently, he seems to be just going about his life. He learns his next assignment is his son’s bf Quinn. He has known her for a long time and he will absolutely make sure she is safe. Across the room he notices a beautiful woman, and does a double take..Quinn. She is no longer the teenage girl he remembers.

As the trial of Quinn’s go on, more threats are made that push Rex and Quinn closer together. With all the resources they have, they must piece together what happened in hopes they can stay safe doing it. These stories are so entertaining and keeps you intrigued til the end.

The One For Forever is book 6 in the West Oaks Security series. It is a steamy, slow-burn, age-gap, girl gets her best friend's dad romance. Quinn is a 28 year old attorney. Rex is a 49 year old, hunky, ex-military man turned bodyguard and the father of Quinn's best friend, Cliff. The two were neighbors growing up, and Quinn got to know Cliff as well as his parents. Lydia, his late mother, passed during high school, and Quinn grew closer to both Rex and Cliff. When Quinn finds herself getting threats during a high profile case, Rex ends up being her bodyguard. He's happy he can protect her and is starting to see her as a woman. Quinn has been crushing on him for over a decade. Rex does have some guilt due to age difference and the fact he was madly in love with his late wife. This story had it all... love, drama, suspense, intrigue, and lots of steam. What will happen? Can Rex keep her safe? Who is after her? What will Cliff say? Will they finally give into their feelings? The chemistry between these two was hot 🔥 when it finally happened. I thought the story still showed respect to Rex's late wife while still loving Quinn. After all the drama is resolved, we finally got a good HEA. I love anything Hannah writes, and this did not disappoint. I'm sad this series is ending, but I love that we got Rex and Quinn's story finally after seeing them across the other stories.

What a great series! A wonderful end for all these amazing couples.
Quinn has wanted Rex Easton since she was eighteen, yet he’s never looked at her twice. Now, when she is finally determined to get over her crush, he's the bodyguard assigned to protect her while she prosecutes a killer. The more time she spends with Rex, the more she’s convinced he’s the best man she has ever known. This handsome hero takes care of her in a way no one else ever has.
If only he’d notice her as more than his son’s friend. But it’s hopeless. Unless it isn’t.
I really really like both characters and the way their relationship developed. This is a sweet slow burn romance with a bit of action, aghast and a lot of pinning. Quinn’s bond with Cliff, Rex’s son, seemed real and believably to me. I was not a fan of the cover because the guy there looks like someone much older than 49, but it didn’t stop me from falling in love with Rex.
I’m a huge fan of a nice age gap and this one doesn’t disappoint. I’m only giving it four stars because I love some of the other stories more. But this one definitely works for me. It’s super sexy and we get to enjoy many characters from the previous books
I’ve read all this series and is super addictive. I highly recommend this book and this author.

Just like we’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover (though I SO did!! That man is something else!), we probably shouldn’t judge a book by its title either but I couldn’t help it; the cover caught my attention but the title cinched it. That right there is why we all love and read romance novels. (And this IS a novel, not a novella.)
Quinn, the FMC had known Rex, her best friend’s dad since she was in high school and had been crushing on him since she was 18 and crying over her date for the senior prom. Now at 28 and a successful Deputy DA, she SHOULD be over that little crush but she’s not.
Rex had been alone for years since his wife passed, and thought he was happy enough until he really SAW Quinn at a gala they were both attending. He’d known Quinn forever but suddenly he couldn’t keep his mind off her.
This was SO good! Not only was it a sweet and steamy romance that TOTALLY lived up to the title, it also contained a murder mystery involving an older movie director, a social media influencer desperate to be an actress, and a chauffeur hoping to make it with the influencer. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a sexy romance as well as an engrossing mystery, it’s more than worth your time. 5 stars!.

A decade ago, ADA Quinn Ainsley’s neighbor and best friend Cliff’s dad, Rex Easton picked her up after a bad prom date and did the parental thing since her parents were out of town, Quinn’s teenaged heart and mind fell in love. As opening day for her first high-profile trial approaches, Quinn is named in a serious threat catches attention at Bennett Security. Now a widower, Rex is tagged as Quinn’s bodyguard. A scary proposition for Quinn, Rex has been her fantasy for a decade.

Trying to subdue his unexpected emotional and physical attraction when he recognizes Quinn, instinctively covers two non-event actions before the night is over. Quinn elects to stay with friends rather than at Rex’ hoping to get her libido under control but they’re both failing at that. Quinn and Rex discover a note that was slipped in her purse, it offers information on the case; that definitely calls for more team members and closer contact and quarters for this age-gap duo that find each other more irresistible by the day.

Too often a reader needs a different outing but this one needed a different reader. No complaints on suspense/mystery or pacing or character likability and rolled with the 21-year age gap but this reader had difficulty with the leads past/present relationship going to something definitely not on the page.

Delicious age-gap romance!

Imagine pining for your best friend's dad for a decade! Quinn is finally ready to force herself to get over her hopeless crush on Rex, but then she's targeted by the fans of the defendant she's prosecuting and Rex is assigned to her as her bodyguard. A task that takes on new meaning for him when he gets a new look at his son's best friend and realizes she's all grown up now.

These two bring all the heat, all the steam as they try to stay one step ahead of the threats that are mounting against Quinn. I adored watching them investigate the case together against the backdrop of their increasingly irresistible feelings for each other. As with the author's previous books in this series, there's plenty of action and suspense that kept me glued to the story, eager to watch it unfold step-by-step as they get to the truth under all the layers of deception.

Their HEA was so sweet, so honorable, and I was so happy to see so many of the other West Oaks couples throughout the story, including a Pink House reunion (iykyk). This was a beautiful way to wrap up the dozen books set in West Oaks, and I highly recommend all of them to anyone who loves action-packed contemporary romances. Romance, intrigue and steam…perfect ending to this series
If you like age-gap romance with intrigue and steam, you will want to read this book. Last in this series, but honestly, anything that Ms. Shield writes is worth reading. I believe that I have read all the books in this series and the next which is still ongoing; I cannot get enough. She measures her angst, intrigue and romance with steam in appropriate doses to make for a must-read page-turner every time.
Quinn Ainsley is now 28yo and West Oaks’ deputy district attorney getting ready to help try her first big case. Because of unexpected circumstances during the pretrial, Quinn needs a bodyguard. Who she gets is none other than her best friend’s father, 49yo Rex Easton for whom she has had a crush for a decade. She was too young then but now she is a sophisticated and beautiful woman. Rex notices! The inevitable happens when close proximity is involved but oh my, the odyssey we go on. Because this is the last book, many of the other characters from previous books make a cameo appearance which is a nice touch. When it looks like the story is coming to a close, BAM, a twist. Whoa, loved it. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through BookSirens and it comes highly recommended. The cover is not bad either ;-)

Great finale to the ‘West Oaks’ series. All the stories in the Bennett Security & West Oaks Heroes series are stand alone, but I do recommend if this is your first foray into Hannah Shield’s fictional world, you do back-track and read the rest from the start. Quinn is second chair on a high-profile murder case & silver fox, Rex is her best friend’s father who becomes her bodyguard after a series of threats to her life. I loved that Quinn has harboured a secret crush on this man for ten years, since he comforted her after a disastrous prom night. The reader is teased with the fact that Rex is initially oblivious to the fact that his son’s friend has grown up into a beautiful woman. I liked that this soon changes as Rex ‘catches up’ to where Quinn is with regards to their developing feelings against the backdrop of the danger to Quinn’s life. I really enjoyed their initial resistance to the sizzling chemistry between them, of course to no avail, much to the delight of the reader. A number of characters from the previous books make an appearance which enhances the enjoyment of the tale. A delightful age-gap romantic/thriller read.

When she was eighteen, Quinn Ainsley’s best friend was Cliff Easton. Cliff and his father, Rex, were there for her when her parents weren’t; they made her feel safe. Now a decade later, Quinn is a Deputy District Attorney and second chair trying the case of Amber Printz, a woman accused of murdering her husband. The woman’s career as an actress and influencer has meant threats for both Quinn and Lana, the District Attorney. Rex, since his retirement from the Green Berets, has been working for Bennett Security and has been assigned to protect Quinn from Amber’s online “friends”. After several minor attacks, Quinn and Rex, spend time alone and realize that their friendship has become so much more. Rex is aware of their age difference, but he never thought he would feel this way about another woman after his wife passed. How will Cliff deal with the intimacy that has developed between his father and the woman who has always been his best friend? When it looks as if Amber is going to get away with murder, does Quinn have a way to get justice for the murdered man? 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀: age gap, bodyguard, ex military, best friend's dad, alpha hero

𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀: murder, violence, death of a loved one

Usually I don't read books where there is a big age gap, or best friend's dad or something like that, but I really liked this book.

Quinn is a lawyer in need of protection after receiving violent threats because of the case she is working on with a celebrity. Rex, the father of her best friend and the crush she has had since she was 18 years old, is attributed to her. She is now 28, and he is 49. Their relationship doesn't start right away, it takes them a while to admit what they feel, but the scenes between them are intense, hot and steamy.

The story itself is very interesting, and I really liked how the author creates suspense and leaves you surprised at the end.

I am very happy that I discovered Hannah Shield last year, because she has become one of my favorite authors and from whom I would read everything she writes.

Thank you Hannah Shield for the opportunity to read this amazing book in exchange for an honest review.

𝑳𝒐𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅. 𝑰𝒕 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍𝒔 𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒆. 𝑨𝒏𝒅 𝑰 𝒘𝒐𝒏'𝒕 𝒂𝒑𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒊𝒛𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒊𝒕.

Este livro encheu-me as medidas.

Rex is serious hero material!

This has been a fantastic series and one I will definitely read again, and again. The conclusion to the West Oaks series focuses on Rex Easton, a bodyguard for Bennet Security and up-and-coming Assistant DA Quinn Ainsley. She is prosecuting a murder case and has become the target of some not-so-stable people. It so happens Quinn has had a crush on Rex since she was 18 when Rex was a recent widower. Add in the fact Quinn is best friends with Rex’s son Cliff and you have a recipe for a thrilling book.

I love the blend of action, emotion, and a great story! It kept me riveted well into the wee hours of the morning and I couldn’t stop until I finished. Hannah Shield did a splendid job of working on their age gap without it being the focal point of the story. I loved all the characters, especially his son recognizing age is just a number, but when you find the one person you’re meant to be with: nothing else matters.  I highly recommend this entire series. I received a copy of this book from Booksprout, and this is my honest review.

Second chance at love

One of my favorite tropes is age gap romances. Crushing on her best friend’s father since 18 y/o, Quinn Ainsley has kept her feelings to herself for 10 years. However, as her law firm has received threats in a high profile murder case, Quinn comes face to face with the now 49 y/o Rex Easton. He’s a body guard, former Green Beret, and currently part of the security team that will be protecting her and her boss.
The way their romance is presented is very mature, because although Quinn had a crush, she never acted on it…and widower Rex hasn’t been thinking about other women seriously, because his wife was the love of his life. The author does a nice job of providing a steamy romance mixed with the intricacies of the legal system in prosecuting/defending a murderer. Both MC’s will be liked by readers and will root for their HEA, and Rex’s son (Quinn’s bestie, Cliff) approval.
I have received an ARC from the author and I am leaving an unbiased review voluntarily.
