Rate this book
Sabrina Bennett was like every other young lady of the ton, but marriage was the last thing she wanted. She devised a plan to ward off her suitors--her own ruination. Surely a notorious rake like Hunter Lancaster, Earl of Greystone, wouldn't balk at her request. But would she be able to resist the maddening temptation of his kisses?

It was by sheer happenstance that I stumbled across this author. In fact - I only got the book because it looked OLD and the old HR is like crack to me.

Imagine my surprise when I realised she's actually a pretty good author. The first 1/4 of the book not so much. It just had weird clunky dialogue and I was thinking for sure that she was readable but not the best. And then the remaining 3/4 was fantastic. The dialogue issue nearly resolved itself! How odd! It's like some random person wrote the introduction and she jumped in and did the reset. Unless, conversely....

Irregardless, this was enough to peek my interest in the author.

Here's my little synopsis written in modern day colloquialism. This gently-bred lady, a ward of her crazy earl(?) gramps asks the rake of the realm if he would do her the pleasure of ruining her irrevocably, so she can use that as an excuse to escape the marriage to some brute (or ugly dude, or old man - which, I cannot remember) that her gramps has planned for her. She'd rather be a ruined woman and sent to the country to rusticate & make her "independent" feminist-of-the-times mindset her entire personality. But the rake (surprise) has a moral conscious which seems to only extend to virgins and he happily sends her on her way. He's a Earl but he kind of has a bad rep because everyone thought he got with his step-sister and that his niece is actually his daughter. Anyways, he loved his sister (that's platonically all you!!! don't get any ideas!!) so he's trying to avenge her death or retrospectively resurrect her reputation (I can't tell, tbh) by hunting down the blackguard who boinked her and bounced. Along the way the MMC + FMC get compromised and they marry and he's having fits of apoplexy because of course since this is old school HR, he's an alpha by nature and he's hellbent against hating the female sex because they wronged him or some shit.

Look the point is, obviously he has the fucking hots for her haha. In fact my favorite fucking line was:

"The only thing that is going to separate us, dear heart," he said brutally, "is death."

Yum. I love a bit of subjugating possessiveness. It's my book kink haha.

And then there's this whole murder mystery - etcetc the end.

Look, I obviously liked her enough that I had to go on a rampage to find more of her books. But who is this lady?? Is this a pseudonym? Did she just disappear of the face of the earth? Her books are good but they aren't popular, are out of print and are not in ebook format. It's driving me nuts.
