I'm giving this 3 Stars only because of Gemma and how hot the love scenes were.
I spent 95% of this book frustrated and ready to scream.

The book goes as follows:
Book ends at 90%? No epilogue...nothing.
The book has some seriously hot sex scenes. I liked Gemma...how she kept on pushing Cole. She definitely did the chasing. She was sweet and was there when Cole needed her.
There's no other drama other than a meddling mother who's trying to push dates on her daughter.
I would not call this a low angst read. I was angsty the whole time I read it. How long can someone think they are not good enough??? Or hold on to the promise to a dead man??? Apparently 95% of a book that ended at 90%.

I read this series not in order. I read book number 5 first then I picked up the first book. To my surprise, I like the first book less. I think I do not like it due to Cole. He is very very coward character. For a ex military member, he does not understand about honor and bravery.
The push and pull he done to Jenna is so annoying. Jenna is typical likeable heroine. Sweet, loyal, tender and lovely. All those likeable character. But it can not help Cole flaw. The story itself is sweet and short. But not too cheesy. I am a fan of Miss Fox works by now. Se can write a short sweet romantic that tugged my heart.
But the ending is bit OTT.
Overall I enjoy this book OK.

4.25 stars. Totally enjoyed this read! Thought it was fun and sweet. Loved the dog storyline. She was his best friend's little sister. She has had a crush on him for years. Back from the military, where her brother died, he is committed to keeping her safe. It is a really sweet story. No triggers. Totally safe.

Un romanzo esplosivo e sensuale con la giusta dose di romanticismo senza risultare melenso. Un romanzo che si incentra sull'amicizia, su un amore acerbo che nel corso degli anni sboccia per diventare un potente antidoto per placare il loro dolore, sull'amore per la patria e la famiglia, per il sacrificio e l'onore. Cathryn Fox è riuscita a riunire tutti questi temi in un romanzo intenso e coinvolgente. Coloro che sono andati in guerra, che hanno visto con i propri occhi l'orrore della guerra e sperimentato sulla propria pelle il dolore e il sacrificio, molto spesso tornano cambiati e Cole è uno dei cambiati, dei sopravvissuti. Mi è piaciuto vederlo guarire e imparare a vivere di nuovo la quotidianità, ad amare, nonostante senta di non meritare Gemma. Gemma non ha bisogno di essere accudita, è bella e forte e ha bisogno di un uomo che la ami e che la faccia sentire bene. La chimica tra Cole e Gemma è innegabile fin dall'inizio e a volte ho sentito come se le scintille della loro passione uscissero direttamente fuori dal romanzo. Sia Cole che Gemma devono affrontare le loro emozioni e i loro timori. Gemma si rivela più determinata di Cole: è lei che combatte per Cole, nonostante Cole per la maggior parte del romanzo non combatte molto per lei. Cathryn Fox è un'eccellente narratrice di emozioni intense, di momenti romantici e commuoventi e di scene sensuali. Mi sarebbe piaciuto però che l'autrice avesse inserito meno scene erotiche e avesse dato spazio ai sentimenti del passato, alla promessa tra Brandon e Cole di cui sappiamo poco e niente. Spero che i successivi romanzi siano più completi ed abbiano un forte impatto emotivo.

This is one of those books that takes an often used romance trope and turns it into something pretty damn special. Gemma Matthews has been in love with her now deceased big brother’s best friend Cole most of her life despite the fact that he refused her advances 10 years ago. Back home and leaving the military behind Cole has one mission left, the one he promised his friend, to keep Gemma safe. Thing is Gemma is all grown up now and she plans to break down Cole’s defenses.
I appreciated the strong, independent heroine in this book and the fact that despite growing up well off she preferred to do things on her own without asking her parent’s for money. And while I did appreciate that Gemma is a little on the stubborn side which came in handy when dealing with Cole. Cole is one of those tortured hero; he feels he’s not keeping his promise to his best friend yet he can’t stay away from Gemma. I love that Gemma is the aggressor in this relationship although really for the most part Cole doesn’t put up much of a fight.
While I enjoyed the romance aspect of this book I loved the story of Gemma’s no kill shelter and how Cole found a way to help her with her overcrowding issue. They really did have a lot in common and most of all I found it very sweet as to why Cole decided to be a dog handler and trainer.
An entertaining plot, sweet yet steamy love story, and a little bit of angst and forgiveness made His Obsession next door another excellent story by author Cathryn Fox.

November 2, 2015This book spends a lot of word count on physical descriptions and lusting. I'm the kind of reader that needs a strong emotional connection and the physical is secondary. I'm also the kind of reader who is bored by pages of physical descriptions of abs, tight shirts, people bending over and watching their rear ends, tingling, burning, pooling and such. This meant I was not the right audience for this book. It centers on the physical and relies on the emotional growth having occurred mostly in the past. Thus we are told of the emotional connection more so than watching it unfold. I quickly skimmed this book so this should really be considered a DNF for me.
If you are the reader who likes to read about the physical fires igniting between a couple and enjoy a lot of standard tropes written without any major surprises then you might like this book. No cheating or OW/OM drama. There is a Hero that sort of pushes away or rather has been pushing away for a long time and finally begins to give in.

A solid three stars. An obvious plot that I've read hundreds of times before but largely made up for by lots of love for animals, something for which I can forgive most things. Decent writing and minimal typos, particularly considering it was a freebie. Godawful title though.

Dovevo immaginare a cosa si riferisse il "chiodo fisso" del titolo... e invece mi sono fatta abbindolare dalla sinossi e dal fatto che il protagonista è un militare.
Non mi è piaciuto, la storia d'amore (?) non mi ha colpito in nessun modo, come direbbe Morgan, "non mi è arrivata".

Dal 2 al 3. Troppo... boh, troppa voglia di saltarsi addosso ogni due per tre, troppi capezzoli turgidi e troppi capogiri dovuti all’attenzione.
La storia li per se è anche bellina, nuova, eppure tutto sto sesso sospirato già dalla seconda riga mi ha stufato.

Once again Cathryn Fox has created a true work of literary art, and provided readers with a beautifully written story that will capture their hearts! I ABSOLUTELY loved reading this story, it captivated my attention instantly and held onto it until the very end. The story line was very engaging, thought provoking, and very well written.
I love second chance love stories and this one DEFINITELY hit the mark! Cole and Gemma' s chemistry was undeniable from the start and at times I swear I could literally feel the sparks between them leaping off the pages. I could tell that the author put a lot of time and care into creating these characters, and tried to give readers a realistic view of what it's like for our service men and women who return home from combat. I also enjoyed her including the service dogs into the story and shedding light on their importance in the lives soldiers. I cannot wait to see what she has in store for the other characters in the series, my mind is reeling with the possibilities.
This is a heartwarming story brimming with passion, hope, promise, and lots of toe curling blush worthy moments! Highly recommend you check out this series, it will definitely satisfy all of your reading needs, and then some!

4.0+ RATING- A well written, surprisingly steamy, contemporary romance with a great ex-military hero and a heroine I liked! Definitely a solid read! I enjoyed books two and three more than this one but this was a solid start to the series. Good writing and HOT romance!

Great story. Gemma has loved Cole since she was a little girl. Cole has loved her too but feels he would be dishonorable to her brother's memory if he acted on those feelings. Things get hot though before he knows it. I'm glad Cole finally got his priorities right.
I want to read about the rest of the team but it looks like only Garrett's story is in this series.

Ciao ragazze, ritorno a scrivere dopo un periodo particolare, ma per fortuna c’è la lettura che mi aiuta a distrarmi...
Oggi vi parlerò de “Il suo chiodo fisso”, scritto da Cathryn Fox e edito “Triskell Edizioni”, primo volume di una serie di vari libri tutti auto conclusivi.
Il fulcro di tutto naturalmente è l’amore, trattandosi di un contemporary romance.
La storia ha come protagonisti Cole Sullivan, che sul campo di battaglia si trova a dover fare un’importante promessa al suo miglior amico: prendersi cura di sua sorella Gemma Matthews.
Per un soldato tutto d’un pezzo quale è Cole non sarà facile trattenersi davanti alla bella sorellina del suo migliore amico, e a rendere ancora più difficile il tutto sarà il fatto che in realtà la ragazza che da sempre ha una cotta per lui, cercherà di provocarlo in tutte le maniere. Utilizzerà qualsiasi tattica pur di riuscire a far crollare il duro soldato al suo cospetto.
Una storia molto carina, a tratti interessante, una lettura semplice ma con poco brio, che riesce nonostante la tematica poco forte a convincere il lettore a continuare.
Una bella storia d’amore, una di quelle letture che ti aiutano a distrarti, a staccarti dalla realtà.
Un libro adatto per chi cerca qualche ora di svago, una scrittura semplice e fluida. Una storia che a noi donne super romantiche ovviamente ci lascia sognanti!
Ho iniziato la lettura aspettandomi molto di più, forse è troppo breve o forse erano solo le mie aspettative ad essere troppo alte, però è comunque uno di quei libri che arrivati alla parole fine non ti delude, ma che nemmeno ti sorprende. E che seppur non ti dona grandi emozioni, ti lascia inesorabilmente folgorata dal protagonista maschile.
Cole è semplicemente bello, uno di quegli uomini belli e dannati, proprio uno di quei tipi che farebbero innamorare qualsiasi donna. Moro, alto e possente e con un passato difficile e doloroso alle spalle.
Questo libro è una lettura facile senza troppi fronzoli o giri di parole. La consiglio? Sì, soprattutto a chi cerca un libro con un po’ di semplicità ma tanta tanta seduzione.

This was enjoyable.
I liked the dog aspect a lot.
Yes, it seemed a little repetitive at times, but that was understandable. However, one of the things that got on my nerves was the fact that we were never told exactly what her brother said to Cole. And so because of that it was just a lot of "he made me promise" type statements. But he was freaking out over thinking he was dishonouring the promise made... well we didn't know what exactly he said. Did Brandon say "Promise me you won't touch my sister." No. He didn't. So it seemed like unnecessary repetitive drama. - However, I understand how someone with PTSD can latch on to something. And that was his thing that he latched on to. So, I'm being forgiving.
Gemma's mother's match making was kind of really annoying and blunt.
And wow... I've never known a vet clinic be able to afford to throw black tie gala fundraisers. Especially a vet clinic that wasn't using any of her parents money.
Otherwise...

I will gladly pick up the next in the series.

I hardly know how to start writing a review of this one. I read most of it - mostly just skip-reading after the first 1/4. It is certainly one of the least subtle books I've ever read, the author hitting the reader over the head with every idea. Repetition, repetition, repetition. Although the plot was excessively obvious and the dialog and sex scenes were stilted and unnatural, the book was fairly well edited, containing only a few very glaring errors that should have been corrected before publishing (mostly past tense where past perfect would have been more appropriate.) The extremely unsophisticated vocabulary was distracting - giving the book an adolescent feel.

Having had his childhood friend and best mate die in his arms and promising to protect his sister, explosive expert, Cole, does just that...and more. Vet, Gemma, tried to seduce Cole 10years ago but his rejection doesn't deter her now. He's fighting his growing feelings towards her, with guilt, she's fighting dirty to get him in her bed. Very predictable, corny, unexciting and frustrating how he wants her, then he doesn't. At times it was like reading a teenage novel, disappointing...but free.

A story filled with feelings
I liked this book very much because:
* The storyline was good
* The characters had personal growth throughout the story and the author showed that clearly
* There’s no unnecessary descriptions of surroundings
* Enough dialogues to keep the story interesting at all times
* Love scenes that is hot and still described in a way that makes the scenes tasteful
* Good narrator but I do prefer when there’s two narrators because the male voice is not easy to do well for a women although this narrator almost made it.
* I loved that there were so much feeling in this book that it made me wipe some tears from time to time.
This author is now on my TBR list. I recommend this book to all that like a hero who looks after the heroine even though she is strong and independent.

Omg this book made me cry! I listened to it on audible and I think it only took 5hrs, so a short listen for me. With both of them having their own troubles and especially Cole’s troubles it really brought home to me what our men and women go through when protecting our country! Not only their jobs, but the friends and family they lose. Thank you to our men and women who fight for our country, and if you need someone to talk to, I hope you will message me xox

Questa recensione vi farà partire alla scoperta di un romanzo dolce e romantico, una lettura tenera ma piccante. Si tratta di «Il suo chiodo fisso» Il nuovo romance di Cathryn Fox appartenente alla serie In the line of duty, edito da Triskell Edizioni. Siete pronti a conoscere Genma e Cole?
Le rivolse un sorriso sghembo, quello che la faceva sempre stare meglio quando erano più giovani.
Come prima cosa parliamo dello stile di scrittura dell’autrice, ho trovato sia un grande valore aggiunto del libro. Le parole di Carhryn scorrono veloci, l’insieme è molto fluido e diretto. Le emozioni provate dei personaggi arrivano direttamente al lettore, e lo coinvolgono a pieno nella spirale della storia. Come potrete immaginare il romanzo contiene contenuti espliciti, le scene di questo tipo sono descritte in modo piccante ma allo stesso tempo non troppo volgare, il giusto mix tra amore e passione.
Trovo che i protagonisti della storia sono due personaggi davvero molto interessanti, nel complesso mi sono piaciuti moltissimo, è stato un vero piacere averli conosciuti. Ho amato il fatto che i cani fossero un elemento importante della vicenda, visto il mio amore incondizionato per questi animali. I personaggi principali sono due persone veramente sensibili riguardo l’argomento; nonostante sia un romanzo leggero e piacevole, in relazione ai cani che sono costretti a risiedere in rifugi o canili, contiene messaggi molto belli e allo stesso tempo di sensibilizzazione.
Aveva la chiara impressione che l’uomo non vedesse l’ora di riprendere il ruolo di sua guardia del corpo.
Addentriamoci un po’ di più nella vicenda! Conosciamo la giovane Gemma, una veterinaria che è da poco riuscita a coronare il proprio sogno di aprire una clinica ed un rifugio per i cani senza padrone. Gemma sta cercando in tutti modi di investire il proprio tempo e le proprie energie, oltre al lavoro di veterinaria, per reperire i fondi necessari ad ampliare la sua struttura. In questo in questo modo riuscirebbe ad ospitare e a salvare un maggior numero di trovatelli, senza il rischio che i più anziani vengano soppressi visto l’impossibilità di accudirli. l’anno precedente Gemma visse una tragedia devastante, morì il fratello maggiore Brandon. Brandon era un artificiere dell’esercito americano, si era arruolato subito dopo la scuola con il suo migliore amico e quasi fratello Cole. In una fatale tragedia Brandon perì mentre era in servizio per il proprio paese. La vicenda sconvolse Gemma, la sua famiglia e il giovane Cole.
I’uomo non riuscì mai ad elaborare il lutto del migliore amico e superare la tragedia. Continua a militare nell’esercito, fino a che decise di ritirarsi e tornare a casa, lontano dalle guerre e dalla violenza. Cole è un uomo dolce e premuroso, racchiuso nella scorza di un duro; la sua corazza è stata plasmata negli anni di sofferenze e atrocità viste. L’obiettivo più importante di Cole una volta tornato a casa, oltre che trovare un’attività lontana dalla guerra, è proteggere Gemma, rispettando così la promessa solenne fatta a Brandon poco prima di morire.
Da ragazzo fu salvato dalle violenze che subiva in casa propria dalla famiglia di Gemma e del migliore amico, trattato come se fosse un figlio.
Appena rimpatriato Cole non si presenta subito da Gemma, ma è costretto a recarsi nella sua clinica quando il suo cane e compagno di lavoro, Charlie ,si ferisce durante una loro uscita.
I sogni della notte precedente provavano che Gemma non poteva combattere l’attrazione per lui, e il buon senso le diceva che meno tempo passavano insieme, meglio era.
Rivedendo la ragazza si risvegliano in lui vecchi sentimenti e vecchie ferite. Oltre al dolore mai superato per la morte del migliore amico, rivive il rifiuto di 10 anni prima inflitto alla ragazza amata. Gemma crescendo si è innamorata di Cole, di quel ragazzo che l’ha sempre protetta e aiutata in svariati momenti delle loro vite. Sperava potesse iniziare una relazione, così quando aveva 17 anni provò a donarsi a lui ma fu rifiutata sia per rispetto a Brandon e sia perché era solo una ragazzina. Nonostante questi buoni propositi però anche Cole provava forti sentimenti per lei, sentimenti che non sono mai svaniti negli anni trascorsi lontano.
Gemma e Cole iniziano a frequentarsi di nuovo, le scintille di passione tra i due non si fanno aspettare.
Cole decide di aiutare la ragazza a portare avanti il suo progetto per salvare più cani possibili dall’abbandono e con altri ex soldati organizzano in una vecchia base un centro di addestramento. I ragazzi si sarebbero occupati di addestrare con amore e passione i cani che si fossero rivelati portati per appartenere alle unità operative, salvandoli così dalla strada e da una possibile soppressione.
Ma cazzo, Gemma lo aveva completamente destabilizzato e aveva acceso un fuoco molto pericoloso dentro di lui, uno che avrebbe fatto meglio a cercare di spegnere prima di combinare qualcosa di cui poi si sarebbe pentito.
Avviando insieme questo progetto Gemma chiede a Cole di presenziare ad un evento di beneficenza, organizzato da lei, in cui avrebbe raccolto fondi. Cole non vuole assolutamente essere messo sotto i riflettori quindi rinuncia, fino a quando non scopre che la madre della ragazza è intenzionata a trovarle un ricco partito per accasarla. Quando Cole raggiunge Gemma i sentimenti e l’attrazione non riesce più ad essere controllata e, finalmente si concedono una notte di passione. Cole mette in chiaro che si sarebbe trattato solo di sesso, anche se non profondo sapeva non sarebbe stato così, anzi era consapevole a quali sofferenze sarebbe andato incontro, così come Gemma.
Rimanendo nell’ombra, Gemma lo osservò lasciare la stanza e un brivido le scivolò lungo la schiena. Non lo aveva mai visto così nervoso, così preso.
Da quel momento Gemma è più intenzionata che mai a scalfire la dura corazza di Cole, inizia così un divertente gioco di seduzione che poterà i due a ricadere più volte l’uno nelle braccia dell’altra. I momenti trascorsi insieme sono sempre di più e sempre più importanti, anche se l’uomo è estremamente frenato dalla promessa fatta al suo migliore amico, sicuro del fatto che avere rapporti intimi con la sorella fosse un tradimento.
Riuscirà Gemma a far esternare a Cole i propri sentimenti ed intenzioni? Cole riuscirà a capire che forse Brandon desiderava vederlo al fianco della sorella non solo come un amico o una specie di altro fratello?
Le loro bocche s’incontrarono ancora una volta in un bacio appassionato. Cole si ritrasse un pò, e il turbine di emozioni sul suo viso fece quasi fremere il cuore di Gemma.
Eccoci alla fine di questo romantico viaggio! Questa lettura mi ha regalato diverse emozioni, Cole e Gemma sono una coppia che mi è piaciuta davvero tantissimo e sono felice di aver shippato per loro. La loro è una bella storia d’amore, sana e un pò complicata, ma in cui non ci sono tragedie dietro ogni pagina e niente triangolo. Una relazione in cui la donna è rispettata, amata e protetta, soprattutto in tutto quello che succede è consapevole e d’accordo. Sono contenta che l’autrice abbia imbastito la vicenda in modo sano, e dedicato una parte sostanziale ai cani e al problema dei trovatelli.
Se amate i romance e gli animali questo romanzo fa sicuramente al caso vostro!
