discovered this little gem from 1976 secondhand and decided to give it a try. Sunset Village has suffered somewhat from the passage of time, but the themes and character are there, probably a mirror of the same feelings and prejudices that you would find in a modern day retirement village in any town in New Zealand.

One stylistic point that I noticed was the lack of commas in long sentences that contained lists of items.

The nosiness and curiosity of the village residents is beautifully caught, as each sees the quirks and foibles of the others around them, blind to their own.
