Ok, so there were some editing issues, but not nearly as bad as usual with this series. That's an improvement.
This story starts off with discovering who is pregnant. It's hard, I think, to really tell you much about this book without telling who it is, but I will try. The couple pregnant are super happy about it. When angels get pregnant, apparently their babies are taken out of their body by celestial storks (Ok, they aren't really storks, but that would be our equivalent based on the purpose) and deposited into a special place in the Light. There they feed off their mother's (and sometimes father's) soul until they come to term. Because of a lot of drama and this unique situation, the leader of the warrior angels wants to destroy the child. The Original angels (basically all angels you have heard of) agree. Though, they don't tend to disagree with the Warrior angels even though the Originals have to sign off on everything. The Guardians go on strike, which means that getting everything back to normal is at a stand still. They will not go on the next mission until there is a guarantee that the baby will be safe. Of course there are consequences to this decision. Both sides are stubborn and refuse to budge while others are dying because of this stalemate. Which, the consequences add to the drama. (I mean remember that the Guardians are teens who were murdered-wait have I ever mentioned that? - that chose the Light. Not to mention now there is a human teen, a Quo and an Akon-the evil equivalent of a Guardian- in the group.) After a compromise which adds another human teen to the group, they go on the mission. There's more drama and consequences from the previous delay. The book ends with the mother of the baby making a surprising choice that is supposed to ensure the safety of her child.
I enjoyed the story, even if the editing issues can get frustrating. I hate having to re-read a sentence a couple of times to realize what it's supposed to say, but I do like the series.
Ok, im going to make alot of enemies with this review . I like the guardian series as a whole but I have alot of problems with this book. I don't know if im going to read the next one because honestly boring. I wrote my own ending and I imagine it will go like this . Emmyand marcus will never be together because in theend Marcus has to go back into the light. The introduction of the new love interest is what hammered the nail into the coffin. I dont like love triangles and I think this is what soured the whole book for me. I know what you are going to say ...didn't Marcus have a whole love thing with Bianca? no in fact he had no desire to be with her it was always about Emmy. Also there is Thomas and his sib. I already feel strongly that even though Ameana Married wolf she is not going to be happy with that so the sib will reach out to his father and he will be the soul that the baby feeds off of. And miku will die . Im not trying to be a downer but the whole good versus evil is in the eye of the beholder. I personally think that they all are more demon than Thomas is. All the secrets and lies ruin the whole good guys triumphant over evil and makes me think the longer they stay out of the light their souls are compromised too. I really would love to see this series end with a bang but reallllllly! I really hate the whole love triangle thing and all the feelings that Emmy has fought for are suddenly replaced so she can date a human.. please. The love of her life SHE WENT TO HELL FOR THIS GUY. she was tortured and almost killed and never did she waver the list goes on and on and because some guy who is showing her a little attention says shes pretty she leaves Marcus. The whole situation had me rolling my eyes and screwing up my lips.
I really wanted to love this book. The editing was terrible (proof-reading). For instance, I think "Replay" is correctly written once, and then every other mention it is "Reply" (which is quite often). I feel like the author is incredibly excited about her new book & wants to appease her fans by getting the book out there and accessible as soon as possible. However, it would definitely benefit to have more people read and edit it. It was quite distracting. I am also getting tired of the bipolar relationship of Marcus and Emmy. They get back together, immediately break up. Get back together, immediately break up. Etc. Etc. I'm sure I will read the last book to see how it all ends. I'm just hoping the editing is much better. I think the author is quite talented to create the world of the Guardians.
Okay here it is. I am about to start reading the final book but before I do that I have to say the following.....the first three books were phenomenal. Once I got to book four that is when s¥€t hit the fan. What happened??? In my profession I have to do a lot of proofreading therefore I can easily pick out mistakes in everything that I read whether it is the newspaper, a recipe, letters, etc. After reading book four through 6-1 I was genuinely dumbfounded. I hold high standards for authors and editors. I mean it is their job to do the same for their writings and reviews of such, is it not?????? I could not believe all the mistakes i came across. The editor did not do a job well done which is a shame because I am quite certain that others readers hold the same high standard for authors and editors. Check it is 2015 has no one ever heard of spell check? I don't k ow what went wrong but it just seemed that the editor's review was too rushed. I am sorry to say but the last few books definitely aren't needed to some editing. I almost stopped reading just for the simple fact that the errors were too discouraging. I will be reading the final book but will definitely reconsider reading anything edited by the same company who edited the last few books of this series.
I have read this whole series. You can get the first book for free. After reading this book I was hooked!!!! They start good and only get better. Lola the author is young and I can just see the future she will have in writing. I feel this is a new and up coming author WE ALL NEED TO WATCH. I have read and re read these books and I am NEVER let down. These books will make you laugh, cry, get Very mad, and make you want more. What I like most about this series it is so well written it is like I am there observing the whole thing in person, like I am in the story myself.
Rage and Ameana's love story is cute. This entire book was a fight to keep it alive. So Ameana and Rage are to be parents and that causes problems in itself.
Wolf especially takes exception to the news and as a Kon, decides that because the sib will be half demon, it will be too dangerous to be allowed to live.
I am so over Emmy and Marcus. They are on again off again. It’s completely annoying. Be together or not, tired of the back and forth.
I am a very avid reader and will give any book a chance, some books I don't make it past the first chapter, some I don't care if I read the next book in the series or not but this series has had me hooked since I first read Book 1: The Girl. I am over thirty years old and even though the main characters in these books are teenagers I find that I can relate to them because they are mature with storylines that are interesting and complex. I have even become a fan of the authors facebook page where she interacts with her readers and pop on there several times a day to get interesting spoilers and updates about the series.
The Guardian Series is about a group of six guardians who are sent to earth on a mission to retrieve the Triplex in order to stop Lucy (Satan) from finding the location of souls who are on an ethereal bridge while making a decision between light/peace or dark/power. If Lucy were to gain the map she would find the location and steal the souls choices and send them all into darkness to serve her. During the mission a human is introduced and with the human arises many problems and choices that the team has to make in order to save her or the world as a whole. All of the books are very captivating and well written, they involve drama, love, heartache, family issues, war and most of all choices that will inspire the reader.
One of the great things about this series is the back stories that explain the why and the how of all that the characters have to do. The author has created an amazing background on each character that helps understand their qualities and their gifts. I really appreciate a writer who can really get us into the heads and hearts of the characters so we can actually feel their emotions and understand their actions.
I was waited for Book 6 (part 1) for about a month and the wait was most definitely worth it. The story carries on with the characters facing their worst fears and trying to overcome them while still holding on to the goodness that is inside of them. They face trial, criticism, impossible tasks and their worst fears hoping to be victorious by staying true to their beliefs. Lola StVil writes her best installment so far.
So Ameana and Rage are to be parents and that causes problems in itself. Wolf especially takes exception to the news and as a Kon, decides that because the sib will be half demon, it will be too dangerous to be allowed to live. Because the Council no longer exist, it is up to the Paras to decide if Wolf’s demand should be carried out. The Para’s decide that Wolf is correct which results in the team refusing to start the mission to find the 3 alphas which will bring about the creation of a new Council. This creates a stalemate between The Guardians and the Para’s and is a course of action that brings about a whole new range of problems in which a popular character dies. Eta has become a temporary member of the team and because of the stalemate over the future of the sib, a reviewer (Alex) is sent to join the team to watch Rage and see if he has a capacity for good. If he decides there is hope for Rage, the sib will be allowed to live. Alex joins the team against much hostility and manages to upset just about everyone. There’s shocking news about Miku, and Emmy and Bianca have a showdown. I really hope there is a happy ending for them all in the final book as they totally deserve it after all the sacrifices they have made.
I thoroughly enjoy the books that Lola Stvil has written about the Guardians, and in fact I keep an eye on her FB page and blog so that I can purchase it on the day of release. This was no different, I purchased on day of release and read my way through it very quickly, I love the story line and cannot wait to read the next one, the only disappointment I have is the fact that it has clearly not been edited very well. There is nothing more irritating than having to work out what a word should be, and I appreciate that there will be typing errors but surely this book would have been proof read before release?? There are so many spelling mistakes and typing errors that I found myself waiting for the book to become available on Goodreads so that I could whinge about it! whoever has been paid to edit this book needs a serious talking to!! but as I said I loved the story and will definitely be waiting for the next one!
I'm ready to be done with this series. I've pushed through and now it still hasn't ended. I still love the idea of the story but I can't handle the dialogue and love relationships anymore. Both continue to decrease in maturity and I feel like the characters are losing focus on what they are supposed to be doing. They are becoming wrapped up in teenage love drama. I get that they are teenagers but as angels, I expect them to be older and more mature. I love the Rage and Almeana relationship. I'm tired of Emmy going back and forth from hero to whiner. When she's being a hero I love it but then she becomes self centered and whiny and drives me crazy. I'll stick it out and read the next one when it comes out because I want to see where the story goes. And maybe the characters will reach a new level of maturity between now and then...
Wow this was a great story. Rage and Ameana's love story is so amazing. This entire book was a fight to keep it alive. Beautiful. I am so over Emmy and Marcus. The on again off again I'd completely annoying. Be together or not, tired of the back and forth. Jay and Miku just don't do it for me. But there is also little value in starting a story about her and demons, then just moving on. Eta and her Replay were completely predictable, not a great way to move that story along. I couldn't give this book 5 stars because the editing was HORRIBLE!!!! Eta's Replay was called Reply for an entire chapter, how do you miss that? There were also a lid if instances of the wrong word being used or a misspelling, were instead of where. It's a great story, too bad the editing sucks.
Book 6 part 1 will have you literally have you throwing things across the room, laughing , crying and leave you wanting more. There is drama, love, heartache, action and so much more. I won't give away any spoilers but I will say if you haven't read this series you are missing out on a wonderful exciting heart wrenching leave you on the edge of your seat story. The Shoma is a fantabulous read I recommend it very highly. Lola never disappoints and she ALWAYS leaves you watching and waiting for her next book!!! Love ya Lola keep doing what you do so well.
I love this series and this book lives up to my high expectations. Each book just gets better and better. It started off with a bang, finally revealing a huge question we were left with. Then of course it ended leaving us with a "Omg what just happened" moment. I can not wait to read part two. I know it will be the best book yet!
Wow in total shock after finishing this book, When Lola tells you there will be a cliff hanger she dont mean just one she keeps them coming so much to wait for, will they wont they, what will the do now that she has done that, what will nutty Bianca scheme up next. Can not wait now for part 2!! A must read for any true Guardians fan
it got better. it's a nice change of pace. the grammatical errors still really bother me, I mean how hard is it to find an editor? I'm sure it's not that hard. anyway, the plot got better the storyline got better and Hallelujah! (major spoiler) the stupid Emmy/Marcus crap is over! the way it happened, with this stranger guy she just so happens to like being in the middle and completely head over heels for her even though they've never met before, is so stupid and played out. but if it makes one of the crappiest couples in the history of fiction books break things off for what seems to be the final time, I'll take it. the crap with wolf at the end was also dumb and crappy considering the fact that amena and rage were the only (funnily enough) stable couple in this whole series. I also hate how twisted the Wolf character became because he was awesome and now he sucks. amongst all my criticism I do admit that I enjoyed this one so I have to give it 4 stars. my only concerns having the next book expectantly waiting on my bedside table are:
1. that Rage won't end up with Amena and Aaden Grey will have an asshat stepfather who hates him and his father when he could have had an amazing father and mother who loved him and gave him a happy home in the middle of the chaos that we all know will be his fictional life.
2. that Miku and Jay are somehow going to have some crazy stupid drama because she's a whore. when they could have been happy if she wasn't (come on! I liked Miku! you broke her!!) . I wish only one of those couples wasn't stupid just so we had something in the book to balance out the rest of the dumb couple crap.... anyway.
3. and most important to me.... Emmy/Marcus will once again go back to their unhealthy relationship, as per usual, and ruin the happiest brought on to me by their "different" breakup at the end of this book.
I would love to look forward to the coming last book knowing that the Marcus/Emmy crap is over and they'll each have normal relationships or at least Emmy will, but knowing already how much this author loves to disappoint, I am dreading the next 'our love can conquer all' bullshit that's about to happen. I usually eat that kind of stuff right up but in this series it seems they need a little dose of 'love alone shouldn't be all the relationship rests on' because let's face it, Marcus is going to get Emmy killed or Emmy will get him killed. if they get back together and neither of them dies this author will have failed.
On that happy note, I'll leave you to make your own conclusions. I'll be reading the next book and hoping for the best.
First, I’d like to express how grateful I am to have stumbled upon this series and I want to commend Lola on her tenacity and creativity. The Guardians Series is one of the most original, creative, and captivating that I have read. It is atop my “favorites” list right alongside The Southern Vampire Mysteries (aka The Sookie Stackhouse Series), The Twilight Saga, and The Hunger Games Trilogy. If you are a fan of the Young/New Adult Paranormal Romance genre, you MUST read The Guardians Series! Lola has created an entire Angel/Demon world filled with the Guardians, Paras, Quo, Akons, good, evil, love, heartbreak, mystery, betrayal, death, et cetera, et cetera. It is a world that draws you in from the very first page of the very first book, ensnaring you, refusing to let go! The action, the romance, the drama, the friendships, the epic battles, the plot twists, the AGONIZING cliff-hangers, and everything else in between has all the makings of a hit television series that could go head-to-head with the likes of Pretty Little Liars and The Vampire Diaries. As an avid reader, I am obsessed with finding novels that throw me into a fantasy world where I can completely lose myself. Somewhere I can take a seat, buckle up, and enjoy the ride while hanging on for dear life…there is nothing better than finding a new series that pulls me in and forces me to become emotionally invested in the characters and all the drama that surrounds them. The Guardians Series has done just that and with each book you will become more and more obsessed; and I can say with almost 100% certainty that the majority of Lola’s fans would unequivocally agree!
After finishing The Lyris Part 2, I was apprehensive as to which direction the final book would go and, to be honest, I am still wary of the way it will all end. When you find yourself so wrapped up in the characters and the storyline, as a fan, it’s impossible not to form an opinion on how you believe the story should end. From the beginning, I have felt there is only one way to satisfyingly end the series. Of course, I’m aware mine is just one lone humble opinion among many and I may very well be the only individual who holds it. From the moment we learned that it was Emmy who carried the map the Guardians were sent to retrieve, I have felt that her death is inevitable. Granted, she has narrowly escaped it on many occasions thus far, but matter how hard Marcus, Julian, and the others have fought to keep her alive, it has just never really felt quite right…like Emmy’s role in the grand scheme of things carries far greater merit and is more significant than anyone could have imagined. That being said, her death would then lead to her preordained destiny of becoming a Guardian or some other significant being among the Angel/Demon world. Hell, she could become an Akon or even a member of the new Council once it’s formed, but it just doesn’t seem right to end things any other way for her. It has to be inevitable…As inevitable as Bella turning into a vampire…As inevitable as Christian and Ana getting hitched and riding off into the sunset with the proverbial white picket fence and 2.5 perfectly dimpled babies in tow. I desperately hope that somehow, someway Emmy’s story will end with a bang; she will get her HEA and ride off into the Light with Marcus and the rest of the Guardians.
While there is definitely plenty of drama and emotional turmoil in The Shoma Part 1, there is a plethora of unresolved issues. Things are at the boiling point and the tension is stifling. Everyone’s emotions are so raw and on edge that you know when shit finally hits the fan it will be cataclysmic to say the least. I’m hoping to see Emmy, or rather Emerson, have an all-out battle with her humanity in Part 2 and seeing as how things went down for Rage and Amena, I wouldn’t mind seeing Emerson and Rage experience more moments like they had at Damned, the demon bar in Chicago. I liked seeing a little more of Emerson, her inner bad-girl, and I can just imagine the trouble she and Rage could get into. In the end, so many things are left up in the air…and WOW, does Tony-Tone drop the MOTHER of all cliff-hanger bombs in the last few lines! I have to admit that, no one, and I mean NO ONE, does a cliff-hanger like Lola! She is Queen of the cliff-hanger and I say this because with most authors that try to pull that crap on such a massive level only end up pissing me off to the point that I just quit reading the books and refuse to finish because it’s just too frustrating to deal with. But OH NO! Not with Lola! After the first book or two, you are completely and helplessly hooked and no matter how much you want to throw your Kindle (or whatever electronic device you may be using) and say “To Hell” with it all, You. Just. Can’t. You feel like a damn Tic! But honestly, I absolutely LOVE every minute of it! It’s why I read in the first place! It’s the very definition of entertainment!
I do have to be honest and admit that I was a tiny bit disappointed with a few things…while there was plenty of emotional turmoil and drama, there really wasn’t a lot of action and/or fighting and I really expected there to be much more happening with the Marcus/Emmy/Bianca triangle. There were a few scandals that erupted, but honestly there was hardly any face-to-face interaction at all between the three. I also expected more to happen with Julian and Emmy’s decision to kill him. While she did ask Tony-Tone to make a poison mixture for her, she never really acted on it or made it a priority. In fact, she asked for the poison only after a very horrific incident involving Marcus that was, once again, the result of Julian’s meddling. I was also a little annoyed with the introduction of Alex, but something just isn’t quite right with him and I feel that he isn’t exactly who everyone believes him to be…or, at the very least, there is something more to his presence than anyone knows at the moment.
All in all, this book was another great addition to the series. Many things were set in motion throughout The Shoma Part 1 that allows for Part 2 to potentially be an epic showdown between good and evil. I am excited (and nervous) to see how it will all go down!
Ok so this was actually the best book in the series, what a stunning ending to a delightful saga... Oh but, its only the beginning to a new one.
Now I have to be honest with you, I initially wanted to kill the main character when i first started this series its been sort of a love hate relationship, She was darn annoying and just made me want to stop reading at times, but, the rest of the characters were super awesome, and i wanted to know how it all panned out despite the whining human.
But all in all it ended well enough and you can say it ended with a cliff hanger... which is why you would have to read the next series to find out what happens.... Nice one lola For now i will take a break from the angel world ,i think, and settle with some realism in the meantime :-) fun read
"The Shoma (Guardians, #6)" by Lola St. Vil is the fifth installment in the young adult fantasy series that continues to explore the intricate world of guardians, demons, and supernatural powers. In this installment, readers follow the ongoing adventures and challenges faced by Layla and her companions as they grapple with the complexities of their roles as protectors.
One of the strengths of "The Quo" is its commitment to expanding upon the established mythology and lore of the series. Lola St. Vil further develops the complex world of guardians and demons, providing readers with a deeper understanding of the intricacies of their roles and the ongoing conflicts they face. This consistency allows dedicated readers to continue their exploration of the well-established universe.
Okay, this review is not just for this particular book (I'm putting the same version on each book) but for every single hair pulling book in the series. I have rated the books mostly 4's and I'll stand by that because the story, had it been about something like super heroes, rather than "angels/demons" it would have been great. But...they're not. They're about...um...Lola St. Vil's warped idea of angels. Here are my MAIN issues.
1: She is obviously either an Atheist or not of a Christian religion because she actually has it that when people die, they become Angels. NOPE, wrong. Angels were created by God to be pristinely good, he created them all Male, and it is mentioned in the Bible that people do not go to Heaven or Hell immediately. They're lying in wait (something like asleep) until the day of Judgement. At that point they will either enter Heaven or Hell, but NOT...NOT NOT NOT as an Angel or Demon.
2: Even if people could become Angels, she has what she calls Originals, created by God. However they are as immature as 14 year old children. My case in point would be Raphael fawning over Miku/Redd like he was a teenage girl at a Justin Bieber concert. This was disgusting. Angels would be NOTHING but professional or they would be kicked out of Heaven. Which brings me to the next issue:
3: Angel prison? Angels on drugs? Angels having Sex? She's missing a MAJOR issue here. Again, Angels are pristinely good. There is an Angel prison, it's called Hell, and only one angel ever went there. Satan himself when he fell. Pristinely good beings would never even be tempted nor affected by Drugs. And God created all Angels, there is no need for them to procreate, and being that he created all Angels Male...it would be kinda hard to do that even if they could. COME ON!! I was ready to claw out my brain cells that had been "fortunate" to survive reading these books up to this point!!
4: What was with renaming everything/one? What in the Hell is Difi? Because it's definitely not Hell...Who is Omnis. God is God, he goes by different names depending on who is talking about him, but trust me, Omnis is NOT one of them. And why is he so powerless/nonchalant in these books? If you're gonna change the name of everything and everyone, why keep the Original's names? Gabriel, Raphael, why not call them Kanye and Fred?
She should have taken the whole "religious" aspect (and I use that word LIGHTLY) out, and instead created the Guardians to be some sort of Super Hero group. Maybe they were given special powers after they died by a race of aliens, or something similar and they were given the task to save the world from another dark race of aliens intending on ruling earth. THAT would have made every issue I had with the book be a NON ISSUE!!
But instead, Lola St. Vil had to make a complete MOCKERY of Christianity. Very disappointed...very disappointed!!
In this book and the following books she can't even remember what she said created the Quo...were they a mixture of Angel and Demon or Angel and Human? She has it both ways.
I have read the entire series and am anxiously awaiting the last book in the series. The journey of the Guardians to save the world continues along with their relationship difficulties. One nice thing about this story is that it delves into forbidden loves. The overt actions of the Guardians to protect Ameana and Rage's Sib really touches the heart. Marcus and Emmy's relationship continues on again, off again--which is getting old but stays true to the previous books. I recommend reading this series--in order. Your time will certainly not be wasted. I certainly plan on reading every installment in this series. St. Vil is truly gifted.
Never before have I been so hooked on a series - right from the word go when I stumbled across the first book which was free on my kindle I could not put it down and ended up spending 2 days reading the others - this book in the series had me going through an array of emotions from crying to shouting to wanting to throw my kindle - Lola StVil is an amazing author and is the queen of keeping us on the edge of our seats. Cannot wait for the final part to come out even though I will be sad to say goodbye to these characters - FAB FAB FAB!!!!
I was writing nano this month so it took me a lot longer to read this than it normally would but I loved every second of it and was on the edge of my seat at times. can't wait for the next book to come out...
Merged review:
could have sworn I had reviewed this already.
Loved this book. As always it left me on the edge of my seat. I cried and I laughed and I was scared out of my wits. I wanted the story to go they way I wanted it to go, which wasn't always the case. Still loved the book and still love the series. I can look past the spelling and typos for the story behind them.
The typos.... Just so distracting. Some minor characters are getting more attention, like Eta and Alex. Bianca is still "Bianca" but leaves things vague enough that revenge will happen in the next book. A big surprise was Rahelle. Emmy and Marcus- at this point they are a model for an unhealthy relationship. One more book in the series so it's a no brainier to read it and see what happens ( typos and all).
omg loved it soooo much but I don't know I think emmy could have used her brain alittle more in it. also marcus was kind of an ass but I loved how we don't know what's happening next! not too fond of the new triangle cause it just seems like no one wants them together but can't wait to see what happens next
I loved this book! The whole series has been wonderful! There was so much action and excitement going on in this book that I hated putting it down. There were tons of spelling errors near the end of the book which was a bit frustrating but the book was still awesome! You dont want to miss out on this series but you really need to read them in order.
OMG!!!!!!! Like always I'm blown away by Lola 's writing. It's.... I don't even know if there is a name for her writing. Fantastic, Amazing, Out of this world, none of those come close to her skills. I cried so hard at the end(which was it a tad to dramatic for my taste but still fantastic) then was blown away by the cliff hanger. I'm speechless. Just great book. Great series
Lola stvil is a wonderful writer, her books keep my interest all the time I am reading them. I can't put them down , I try to read them slow , but have to keep going to the next chapter. So so sorry this next one will end the series, but l know her next book will be great also. Thank You Carole Everman Books (The Guardians, by Lola Stvil
This series just keeps getting better and better. I don't think Bianca has much to add to this story and probably could have been done without. I still can't get behind Emmy 100% but I think that says something about the way the series has grown (that I don't like the protagonist but still want to see everyone else's outcome).
