Jennifer and Christopher Martucci hoped that their life plan had changed radically in early 2010. To date, the jury is still out. But late one night, in January of 2010, the stay at home mom of three girls (all under the age of six) had just picked up the last doll from the playroom floor and placed it in a bin when her husband startled her by declaring, “We should write a book, together!” Wearied from a day of shuttling the children to and from school, preschool and Daisy Scouts, laundry, cooking and cleaning, Jennifer simply stared blankly at her husband of fifteen years. After all, the idea of writing a book had been an individual dream each of them possessed for much of their young adult lives. Both had written separately in their teens and early twenties, but without much success. They would write a dozen chapters here and there only to find that either the plot would fall apart, or characters would lose their zest, or the story would just fall flat. Christopher had always preferred penning science fiction stories filled with monsters and diabolical villains, while Jennifer had favored venting personal experiences or writing about romance, as romance was far easier to invent fictitiously than it was to attain in real life. Inevitably though, frustration and day to day life had placed writing on the back burner and for several years, each had pursued alternate (paying) careers. But the dream never died. And Christopher suggested that their dream ought to be removed from the back burner for further examination. When he proposed that he and his wife author a book together on that cold January night, Jennifer was hesitant to reject the idea outright. His proposal sparked a discussion, and the discussion lasted deep into the night. By morning, the idea for the Dark Creations series was born.

The Dark Creations series was written while Jennifer and Christopher continued with their day to day activities and raised their young children. They changed diapers, potty trained and went to story time at the local library between chapter outlines and served as room parents while fleshing out individal sections of the book. Life simply continued. And in some ways, their everyday lives were reflected in the characters of the series. In fact, the main female characters are named after three very important people in their lives: their three daughters. Their likenesses end there, however.

As the story line continues to evolve, so too does the Martucci collaboration. Lunches are still packed, noses are still wiped and time remains a rare and precious commodity in their household in upstate New York, but it is the sound of happy chaos that is the true background music of their writing. They hope that their work, though penned for a young adult audience, will be appreciated by the young of every age, and that all enjoy reading it as much as they enjoyed writing it.

3.5 stars for the entire series so far. I found the story extremely interesting and was desperate to find out how it ended. I had thought that this book was the last in the series but I was wrong. There is yet another one coming in the future. It surprised me how much I liked the story and how it pulled me in. The only reason I am not giving it a higher rating is because there are some kinks in the writing. One thing I noticed early on was the extreme overuse of the work molten. There was molten chocolate, molten heat, molten gems and a few others that were used numerous times to describe certain things. The other thing I noticed was the very formal way in which the characters talked to each other at times instead of the way normal conversation would flow. There is a lot of cannot, would not instead of can't and wouldn't for example in dialogue between the characters. Having said all that, I do not want these things to deter people from reading this story. It is a good story that kept me reading and ignoring other things I should have been doing. If you like a little romance, danger, supernatural and violence it is worth the read.

Crap. Total crap. Again with the not knowing what they've already done with characters...again with the need to proofread...again with the badly written and repetitive CRAP. literally forced myself to finish this book and won't be reading the fifth part. Ugh

Arianna is still confused as to what the prophecy says she is to do.However, she wants to protect the people she cares about while they come up with a plan. Darius believes that he is to marry the Sola (Arianna) and destroy mankind. He realizes that she won't come to him easily so he shape-shifts as Desmond to make sure she no longer trusts him. Once he breaks her trust he stages an attempt on her life so he can "rescue" her. He insinuates himself into her life. You can almost feel the heartbreak when she thinks Desmond has betrayed her. I was cheering for Arianna & Desmond the whole book. They may have won the battle this time but the war is far from over. These books just seem to consume you when you read them. The author makes you feel connected to the characters. You want Arianna & Desmond to win against evil. I can't wait to read the next book to see what happens next.

Like the series

I love the series the plot and that it's easy to read, but the editorial mistakes still get me. missing words sometimes make me re-read passages a couple of times or not understand the sentence. I absolutely love the Savior story. it mixes the Jesus and Mary Magdalene story perfectly. the yin and yang how we are meant to be balanced in order to be truly powerful. good stuff!!!

This is one of those books you kind of get sucked into. I did not pay attention to the fact that I was embarking on a series when I started the first book. If you are interested in delving into a world unlike your own, this is a series you can get lost in. This is a very easy read and captivates quickly. Can't wait to finish the series.
