Lois Lane is now editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet, but at heart she’ll always be an investigative reporter. And lately Metropolis has had a whole new set of secrets she must uncover. Even if it means investigating her own husband…Superman! Featuring Livewire, Parasite, and Mercy, this special issue is your next big puzzle piece leading to a massive Superman crossover in 2024! Don’t miss out!
A Superman annual with surprisingly little Superman, it chooses to focus on Lois Lane and the rest of the Daily Planet team instead. Williamson has written a lot of great dialogue and the bouncing banter works really well. Seeing Metropolis from a more mundane ground level allows for a nice change from the common otherworldly invasions and fights. A slice of life almost, there’s enough heart to hold interest throughout.
I would’ve appreciated some follow up to Lex getting shanked at the end of issue 5, but this was still a really solid Lois Lane/Daily Planet story with a pretty hype stinger at the end. While I’ve really been liking the direction Williamson has been taking the story, I hope that the multiple plots he’s setting up don’t start to feel too jumbled.
I'd give this 3.75 stars, but I can't quite give it 4. Not bad, though. The art is still very good, though I already miss Jamal Campbell's. These artists all have a very similar style, though, so it wasn't a distraction or anything. The story just went all over the place, but I guess that was the point, especially in an annual. I thought it was funny how Superman spent most of the issue battling Toyman's giant robots, and nobody seemed to think much of it. "Oh yeah, the city's getting destroyed over that way, but hey, whatever, Superman's on it. We're just gonna chill over here." That's how I felt everyone acted in this.
Another minor issue I have with this series overall so far, and maybe Superman in general? Lois Lane looks different in every panel I see her. I sometimes need context just to know it's her. Sure, there are different artists and whatnot, but she looks like a different person all the time. Maybe it's always been like that, and there's a reason for it? Or maybe it's just my imagination.
Either way, there was plenty of Lois Lane in this one, along with a bunch of her Daily Planet workers. There are also plenty of other characters, and there's a neat setup for the next arc at the end. Overall, not bad, but not memorable, either.
This was kind of meh for an annual. But it was a good story for just a general issue. And I can see where it's setting things up and providing some answers, finally. So I'm a little more back on board for the story again.
I liked the art better in this, and I have the Samnee cover because I really do like the art better when it's not the main artist for the run so far. (sorry).
A solid annual! I felt it was a nice change of pace as the story mostly focuses on the Daily Planet news team and them each investigating something. I found it to be intriguing and a nice companion piece to the main series!
Mixing thing up and discovering something new. That’s Lois Lanes new motto. The more secrets she uncovers the more there are to find. Can’t wait for the city of Lobo’s. God help the universe.
I don't know why it wasn't called the Lois Lane Annual. Superman was in this less than Lobo, which isn't that bad of a thing, and this was still an awesome comic
