When an accident leaves the local school without a teacher, the bishop asks Priscilla Smucker to fill in for the remainder of the school year. When the community begins to praise Priscilla for her teaching ability, she finds herself receiving unwanted attention from a small group of women. Once again, jealousy turns to bullying against not just Priscilla but Stephen Esh, too. Is it possible to handle such a situation and remain faithful to God's wish to "love thy neighbor"?

It's interesting as I come to write this review as I feel I need to try and be a bit like the main character Priscilla as in real life, I deal with my own Susie character. In The Hope Chest, we read as Priscilla is quickly filling up her chest the past winter with crocheted tablecloths, her quilt from The Quilting Bee, pot holders, etc. Every couple of days, she sneaks up to the attic and admires it. Her relationship with Stephen is going well and it seems like Priscilla is ready to take her biblical vows and become a fully-fledged member of the Amish community and she has been allowed of a lifetime by the local Bishop Zook to be a relief teacher at their schoolhouse as the current teacher has broken her leg. Life is looking up for Priscilla, that is once again, Susie - the bane of Priscilla's existence starts to stir trouble up once again for Priscilla by spreading her usual lies but in The Hope Chest, she takes it a step further by printing slander about not only Priscilla but also Stephen in the local Amish news. Taking it out on Priscilla is one thing but how will Priscilla and Stephen's courtship go when Susie starts to add him to her list of victims of lies. Can Priscilla and Stephen remain strong in the Lord and prove to the community that their love is faithful and reliant on God's love and strength? Will Susie finally get what is coming to her as this time her lies and bullying go to a new level? Find out in The Hope Chest by Sarah Price, Book #3 of The Amish of Ephrata series. The Perfect read for any YA reader.
Bullying. Rumors. Lies. Gossip. All can be hurtful, but it's how you respond as a victim that everyone seems to be watching more than the Bully.
In The Hope Chest , Sarah Price writes about bullying in one of the Amish communities of Ephrata, PA. Priscilla Smucker is on the receiving end of the mean comments from a jealous, young lady in her community. Priscilla tries to focus on being a good teacher while the regular teacher recovers in her community. While focusing on the students, she finds a problem with one of the students and seeks help through the bishop. Susie gets the community's grapevine running full speed. But how will Priscilla handle the gossip, especially since Susie has pulled in Stephen Esh? Will the higher power have something to say about all of the untruths?
Find out by reading the book and or the whole series and take the lesson to heart.
I must say that I liked the bishop in this installment. The end of the school year program gave way to important information.
TRUST and FAITH are two very key components in this whole series.
Third in the series--Priscilla is asked to teach the Amish children for the remainder of the year. She accepts and does well, but Susie Byler continues to make up and spread lies about Priscilla. Stephen stands by Priscilla. Priscilla decides to just ignore the lies and not confront Susie. Such a hard thing to do. I wish all situations such as this turn out as well as Priscilla's did. Mine did not!!
The story continues as does the bullying and character assassination. Priscilla 's character was a little too much of a Pollyanna. It was a little hard to swallow that all but 4 youths believed the gossip. It did not make for a Godly community especially since all were eager to believe the worst. I didn't enjoy this book as much as the others.
The book was very well written and full of suspense. Priscilla was asked to fill in for the teacher and Susie caused trouble with writing in the Amish newspaper about the teacher.
This was one if those books you read when on vacation, over the summer, or any time at all. I really enjoyed this romance novel, without all the trash! It was so God honoring, and good clean, emersion fun. I love escaping into a good book, and this certainly was one. Thanks Sarah!
The Hope Chest is the thurd book written by Sarah Price in her The Amish of Ephrata series. In this story the author takes us back to the bulling in Ephrata by a local young Amish woman. This young girl has yet to learn her lesson about lieing and bulling. When you see what has her in a snit this time I am sure you will gasp just as loud as I did.
I continue to love the characters Priscella and Stephen for their strong will to turn the other cheek. They really bring this story to life and are very likeable and realistic. It shows us readers what having a strong family unit can for everyone.
I was not given a complimentary copy of this amazing book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable review at anytime. I have rated this book with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that i can highly recommend to all those who love the Amish genre.
Congratulations to Sarah Price for writing another fantastic book for her readers to enjoy and I look forward to reading more amazing books by this author in the future.
