Parry Pretty and the Eight Realms #1

Caught in the Slipstream of Time

Rate this book
Someone has opened the Slipstream, causing time to repeat a single day over and over again. As the mysterious events of the day begin to unfold, Parry Pretty discovers the heart-stopping reason why only she can close the Slipstream. The only problem is the stubborn girl refuses to believe that the Slipstream even exists. Her logical brain ignores the fact that she continues to relive the same day over and over again, even though she has experienced déjà vu several times. Her scientific mind can’t be convinced that she continues to wake up in different realms, and her practical nature certainly won’t accept the fact that there is more than one realm in the world (eight to be exact). But all that is about to change when Parry finds herself chasing after a mysterious stranger through windows that lead to new and wondrous lands, where she discovers a greater and darker secret that could alter her destiny, and the fate of all the realms, forever.

S. J. MUSGRAVES was very bad at two subjects in grammar school, reading and writing. So, naturally, she grew up to be an author.

Having known a midgi and a Gent her whole life, it was inevitable that she would eventually tell their stories and share the secrets of the Eight Realms.

On any given day, under her vintage fedora hats, S. J. Musgraves can be found clacking away on her computer while sipping an English cup of tea in the company of a deaffer.

*Disclosure: I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads.*

Parry Pretty is an inventor, scientific thinker and finds herself in a situation in which she is complete denial. The situation? One in which she cannot logically explain to herself, and thinks it to be a dream. I found the character very interesting, how she deals with her life which becomes the same day every day. I found it to be a more logical Alice (from Alice in Wonderland), with an uncle who is reminiscent of Willy Wonka, and a healthy dose of fantasy. I look forward to the next book in the series! Very fantastic read for kids.

Made of nonsense

I have no idea of what I've just read. Kept hoping it would come together for me, but it was a total mystery with no end. Maybe book two would put it together, but I give up.

Disclaimer: I did not in fact read this book. My 10 year old daughter did. And she loved it. I asked her to write a "review" for the book (had to explain the difference between a book report and a review), and this is what she wrote. I apologize for any potential spoilers, misspellings and redundancy... she's 10 for pete's sake!

Dear S.J. Musgraves,

I really liked your book, Parry Pretty and the Eight Realms. I liked how Parry went to the midgi's burrow and those dangling vines. I also liked her Uncle I.Q. and the savor candy that tells you it's been an hour every time the flavor changes. It was cool because when she drank a little bit of the silver serum she remembers the next day even though the same day keeps repeating itself. I think the cool thing was when she sees a different window it leads to a different place. I really thought the thunderbird was cool. I think other kids should read it because it's a fun story about different places and realms and it's a really great book. I would really like an autographed book of Parry Pretty and the Eight Realms, Book Two, the Realm of Possibilities.

Sincerely, a person who really likes your books,

Maya

I got lucky on 2 in a row from my Double Dare Challenge. Another great "fairy tale" like book that reads a little like "Groundhog Day". A young girl is caught up in repeating the same day over and over when the slipstream of time is opened and she is the only one who can close it again. The book has very unusual characters that live in realms different from where humans live. There's quite a bit of non-stop action and a little bit of mystery. I thought it was a great read.
