Marilee O’Neil isn’t one to turn down a challenge, not even when it’s to pilot a friend’s hot air balloon in a race. But when she’s forced to change course and make an unexpected landing on a wheat farm, Marilee’s overconfidence gets the better of her, and she ends up in the middle of a swimming pool, giving the handsome sunbathing farmer quite a shock! But Cole Chandler takes surprise in stride, gallantly rescuing Marilee from her soggy landing, and instantly setting her body afire. Though Marilee tries to resist their growing attraction, she can’t deny that it isn’t just the summer heat that has her on the edge.

This one had a interesting start. The heroine Marilee is flying on her air baloon and drops it to our charming hero Cole Chandlers backyards pool. I mean what a way to meet. I love how fascinated Cole was by this experience.Especially that it being a beautiful green eyed red head 💕In his eyed she was a witch that stole his heart. And i love the way he persistence pursued and seduced her ♥️This was a lovely romance indeed!Like this lovely cover.
The hottest summer in Kansas history lends itself well to the setting of the light, engaging romance. Ms. Orwig has provided strong characters, a well written story, and a stellar setting. I found this to be quite an enjoyable light romantic afternoon's read. I would read more from this author. *I received my copy from NetGalley.com in exchange for an honest review.

Balloon crashes into millionaires’ private property. Balloon pilot gets drenched in his pool. He stands their naked and demands dinner. A little too surreal for me. I just never understood how Cole could take on look at Marilee and decide I want her and I will do everything to make sure I get her. And how Marilee could just kind of go along with it. I never got vested in either character – too stereo-typey for me I guess. I wanted personality…not just from the main characters but from everybody that surrounded them. Am not asking for full-fledged back stories but a little bit more integration and some answer to “Who the heck was that?” to some of the characters that were included that felt little more than mere after thoughts.
Get ready for some cheesy romance! This story was one of those fluff readings that had no real character development. I had high hopes for the book, but it fell short. I had hoped that some of the situations would've been more dramatic. For example, the reason why Cole's place seemed like a fortress with its high walls and security took me by surprise when I learned it was because he had cattle, wheat and oil. I was hoping for something like he was a reclusive multimillionaire. Some of the language was cheesy and the fact that they fell into bed with each other in less than 6 hours of knowing each other seemed a little too fast paced and then it seemed other parts dragged and then suddenly it's fast paced again. This was not my favorite book or story.
A nice read with the action starting from the very first page when Marilee crashes her hot air balloon into Coles pool. I love the banter between them and there's quite a spark from the beginning but this book was written in the 80's and there is where it should have stayed. If its going to be re-released it should have had a modern revamp. This book has left me wanting... (bit like Marilee!) I'm sure if you brought it into the 'New Adult' genre it could be a 3.5 to 4 stars but sadly its a 2 for me.
Having read the other reviews on here I have to agree with them. This is a very cheesy romance and the characters do fall in love far too quickly really! The whole thing is a bit far fetched. Girl crashes hot air balloon into a hot man's swimming pool ... He invites her for dinner and then they get intimate and fall in love. If you want a realistic love story, this isn't it. However if you don't mind unrealistic cheese then this is worth a read!
Thank you Net Galley and the publisher for this copy in exchange for an honest review.
2.5- 3 stars. This book was probably really a good book in the 80's, when it was first published as a paperback book. But, to read this now, it is very cheesy and screams cheesy! Again- another book where the cover was so much hotter than the book. Well written, just not for me.
