The book centres on the Ajmer Dargah sex-abuse scandal that unfolded mainly in the late 1980s and 1990s. Ajmer Sharif, one of the most revered Sufi shrines in India, became the backdrop for systematic sexual exploitation of young girls, many of them minors, by a powerful nexus of shrine custodians, middlemen, criminals, and their political protectors. How victims and their families were threatened into silence. The failure of the police and local administration. The role of politicians and powerful figures in shielding the accused. How evidence was ignored, cases delayed, and justice obstructed.
The beginning of the book reminded me of the book “ The Librarian “ by Philip Wilson that starts off with the metro station and JV Solanki seeing a helpless woman being followed by thugs and then pursues her whereabouts as the story proceeds and progresses to Ajmer. A few fictional characters, an owner of a slaughterhouse, a local Haryana Goon whose daughters is one of the victims who has been murdered brutally and ruthlessly and her body kept in the fridge ! At the end JV Solanki busts the racket and the end justifies the means and puts an end to all those who were responsible and involved in their heinous crimes. I found this book not as good in plot nor the story narration like the previous books of this author. It’s 3 stars from my side .
