两个男人在咖啡馆里旁观了一场凶杀案，被警察收走身份证，数日后寄还身份证时错误地将两人身份证互换，两人因此互相通信，并在信中推理咖啡馆凶杀案的缘由，却不料导致了另一场凶杀……

——《偶然事件》

文革期间，中国某个小镇上的一个历史教师在被红卫兵带去写交代材料后消失的无影无踪，留下年轻的妻子和幼小的女儿在家里无助的等待。若干年后，妻子改嫁他人。多年之后的初春一个疯子来到了这座已经开始平静，甚至有点安逸的小镇……

About the author

Yu Hua (simplified Chinese: 余华; traditional Chinese: 余華; pinyin: Yú Huá) is a Chinese author, born April 3, 1960 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. He practiced dentistry for five years and later turned to fiction writing in 1983 because he didn't like "looking into people’s mouths the whole day." Writing allowed him to be more creative and flexible.[citation needed] He grew up during the Cultural Revolution and many of his stories and novels are marked by this experience. One of the distinctive characteristics of his work is his penchant for detailed descriptions of brutal violence.

Yu Hua has written four novels, six collections of stories, and three collections of essays. His most important novels are Chronicle of a Blood Merchant and To Live. The latter novel was adapted for film by Zhang Yimou. Because the film was banned in China, it instantly made the novel a bestseller and Yu Hua a worldwide celebrity. His novels have been translated into English, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Persian, Polish, Spanish, Swedish, Hungarian, Serbian, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, Malayalam and Turkish.

[Beyond]

The source material for 'Only The River Flows', one of my favourite films from this year.
This is actually a short story collection. I attempted to read it, but reading in Chinese was a real struggle. So I ended up listening to just the first story in audiobook which I found on youtube. My first time listening to a Chinese audiobook. Both the narration and the writing seem very average. But it was interesting to see how this material was adapted into a much richer film.

It's interesting to see how the writer in his earlier period had been exploring different styles of writing. And it's more exciting to see when the writer has settled down with his final style, it appeared to be the best. A little more would be too much. And a little less would be not enough.

本来奔着《河边的错误》这个中篇小说借的这本书，结果最让我惊喜的是《偶然事件》，和《一九八六年》。

强烈推荐这两篇！《古典爱情故事》也不错，但是个人觉得《偶然事件》写的特别紧凑，人物刻画也特别细腻生动。《一九八六年》会拖沓一些，但是疯子血腥的部分和群众欢乐的气氛形成的强烈对比，还是蛮有冲击力和讽刺感的。

《河边的错误》也许是我没领悟到余华想表达的所谓荒诞，但作为推理爱好者，虽然文笔很棒，但我觉得整个案件想表达的主题并不明确，个人读了也是有点一头雾水的。也就还好吧！

《现实一种》5.5。是“魔幻一种”吧；
《1986》6.0。好重口啊！
《古典爱情》6.0。我想看的是爱情啊。简直是谷崎润一郎恶魔美学的另一个极端。

综合：6.5/10.0。优秀的文笔都去描写精神变态、暴力、血腥、恶心了。
真可怕。感觉书籍也要分级啊。[捂脸]半夜一点多才睡着。
