It has been quite some time since I opened a manga and caught myself being GIDDY because it felt like it was going to be one of those kind of fantasy reads where it seemed there would be deep world building!
Wow! What a wonderful read this was! I had heard it was good but I didn't realize it would be THAT good!
I was completely blown away by how fantastic the storytelling was because it did have the world building I was hoping it would be based on the beginning, but it also had very engaging characters as well as incredible art!
Monica is like no other heroine I've read before! There were many times her reactions were hilarious, especially when it was shared that rather than chanting her magic out loud so she could successfully graduate as a mage, she instead decided to learn magic WITHOUT chanting, which is something no one has ever done before in this story world! Maybe that doesn't sound very funny when I write it out, but the way the narrator shared it made me laugh because it would seem most people would work on overcoming their social anxiety, but Monica didn't even acknowledge that as a solution! LOL!
But she is so wonderful! I am not a numbers person but her love for numbers was beautiful to see! The way her face would light up and how they brought her comfort really made me smile and laugh equally! Though seeing the briefest glimpse of her past already had me upset because it seemed far from easy!
I really liked the whole cast of characters, even if Louis bothered me a little bit, and wanted to roll my eyes. I 100% stand with Nero that there is no reason for him to talk down on our mage!! And speaking of Nero, he is SO much fun! I'm really glad he is in Monica's life because I love him! <3
I also love Isabelle! Her love for villainess made me so happy! I also loved how Monica admired her saying "villainesses are amazing," which had me internally squealing with glee! YES, THEY ARE MONICA!!
I am SO excited to read more of this series because this first volume very much surprised me!! I had such a great time and I'm excited to see Monica grow but also learn more as to why the Second Prince seems so shady!

The setup is way too convoluted. We have:
-A painfully introverted main character
-Who is a math savant
-And also has incredibly powerful magical abilities
-On a secret mission to be the prince's bodyguard
-Which for unknown reasons she must conceal from the prince himself
-At a super posh boarding school
-Where she's also pretending to be the adopted sister of one of the noble students
-Who has to pretend to bully her when she actually wants to be good friends
-And uncover a plot to kill the prince and embezzle school money
There's at least three too many elements here. Something is constantly falling by the wayside, like the fake sister or the main character's super special magical talent. Just far too busy.

If you’re looking for a cozy new (to you) fantasy series, please consider checking out Secrets of the Silent Witch. I actually picked up the anime first, but was so enamored with the story that I had to start reading the manga…and the light novels. Yeah, I’m hooked!
Secrets of the Silent Witch Vol. 1 introduces a new fantasy world, complete with a diverse set of characters, a magical system, and even some politics. A lot is going on, but the introduction is gentle enough that you don’t really need to worry about knowing it all right away.
This series truly is as cozy as it is magical. Monica Everett is incredibly shy, and that’s putting it mildly. I did a whole write-up about how her shyness is turned into strength, but here I’ll just say that Monica is an easy character to appreciate.
Aside from Monica, there are a bunch of secondary characters. Naturally, some are easier to like than others (and you know the others are probably going to fall under the “eventually we’ll love them” category).
Overall, I’d say that Secrets of the Silent Witch Vol. 1 is cute and clever, which makes it the perfect series to check out.

Monika Everett, The Silent Witch, one of the Seven Sages, an extremely powerful and talented mage who can cast magic without incantations, has been given an very important assignment: Watch over and protect Felix Arc Ridell from whatever evil is out to get the second prince. Except he's a high school student, no one can know she's his body guard (not even him), and she's so hampered by pathological shyness she can barely talk to her classmates let alone him.
The set up and premise of this story is a little...unsubtle? (Send amazing magic kid to high school) but decent once we get past the railroading. The art is passable, but the characters barely have any expressions (if you have to use three angry symbols to show me Elliot is having emotion, you're not doing it right) However, the characters are somewhat interesting. Monika is a highly introverted math nerd (love me some lady mathematicians), Isabelle is the good friend who it totally down with playing a bit to help Monika with her cover story (and the author takes a dig at all these villainess stories that have popped up recently), and Lana is the fashion forward friend who helps in her own weird way (cause what's the point of saving a prince if you don't look cute?).
Overall, I had trouble getting into it, but there's enough to keep my interest.

Auf Deutsch bei altraverse erschienen
Ich habe noch eine Lieblingsreihe bei altraverse gefunden! Eigentlich weiß ich ja inzwischen, dass auf das Verlagsteam und ihre ausgewählten Lizenzen immer Verlass ist, trotzdem freue ich mich jedes Mal wie Bolle, wenn ich mich wieder Hals über Kopf in einen Reihenauftakt verliebe und anschließend Band für Band auf die Fortsetzungen hinfiebern darf. So ist es auch bei „Silent Witch“ wieder der Fall. Der Manga hat meine Geschmack einfach zu 1000% getroffen.
Der Zeichenstil ist cozy, wunderschön und sehr süß. Optisch ist die Reihe also schonmal ein Hingucker. Es gibt eine schüchterne, aber starke Hexe, eine tierischen Begleiter, der mir krasse „Küss de Kater“ oder „My gently raised beast“ Vibes gibt (bester Webtoon!!). Das Schulsetting ist ebenfalls genau meins und zu einem interessanten männlichen Protagonisten, der in Band 1 gut angeteasert wird, gibt es auch noch eine geheimnisvolle Verschwörung.
Ihr seht also, ich liebe „Silent Witch“ jetzt schon abgöttisch und fiebere direkt auf den nächsten Band hin. Nur um Band 1 dann gleich nochmal zu rereaden! Love it!

Ce premier tome est très introductif mais Monica étant très attachante ça ne gâche pas du tout le plaisir de lire.
J'aime beaucoup le concept du manga, une sorcière tellement réservée qu'elle n'arrive même pas à dire merci aux gens qui l'aident et qui a donc réussi à faire de la magie sans parler (ce qui est une première dans son monde)
J'aime aussi le fait que ça se passe dans une académie, j'ai hâte de la voir évoluer dans ses cours auprès de ses camarades.
On sent aussi très vite arriver la romance, j'ai des doutes d'ailleurs sur le triangle amoureux qui selon moi est fort probable mais je ne veux pas m'avancer tout de suite !
J'ai adoré Monica qui était extrêmement attachante et j'ai bien aimé les autres personnages qui ne sont pour le moment pas encore très présents mais qui le seront davantage dans la suite de la saga et j'ai très hâte d'en apprendre plus sur eux !

Though I am not usually a fan of comedic fantasy manga, I decided to pick this one up, as I felt the main character seemed endearing. But if I knew this manga had a light novel, I would've preferred to pick that up over the manga.
This first volume did a decent job of setting up the premise. I really like the main character and her cat, though her character is a bit troupe-y, being the super shy but super cute girl. I hope further into the series her character does develop into a more unique character. None of the other character felt too unique, but of course this is only the first volume.
I don't think I will buy the second volume. But I may give the light novel a chance. I feel these type of stories does well with a bit more of your own imagination.

Seventeen year old Monica is a powerful mage. She is known as The Silent Witch and keeps her identity a secret. Monica prefers to live away from people due to her shyness and difficulty speaking to people. When one of the higher ups finds her, they give her a task to attend a magic academy and guard the second prince. Monica of course is very reluctant but things are already set in motion and she has to continue keeping her identity a secret and befriend the prince.
I thought this was a cute story with an intriguing mystery plot. I like Monica and her cat familiar Nero. I'm interested in reading more.

Cute and funny, Monica is a mage, one of the most powerful but she's so shy she prefers to live in the mountains and do her thing. Obviously something pulls her from that life when she's asked to protect a prince while he's at school.
It's more humor than serious, and because of Monica's shyness, it leads to all sorts of red-faced moments. Liked it, didn't super love it. If I stumbled upon the second I'd read it though I wouldn't necessarily seek it out to continue.

promising start, though I do hope we'll see more of monica's true powers soon. I kind of love the 'little squirrel' nickname the prince gives her. art here is great, and the mystery plot is intriguing! will probably pick up the next one to see where this goes.

Schade, leider nicht meins. Zu drüber, zu lahm... wenn eine Adelstochter sich weigert, sich in Sicherheit zu begeben, weil"das alles sei, das sie für ihr Volk tun könne", ist das leider ziemlich dämlich.

4.5 stars for a socially awkward witch! This manga is fantastically adorable! I love the fact that she learned silent magic because she is too awkward to talk in front of people!! I can't wait to get my hands on volume 2!

I just found it dull. Nothing offended me in anyway, just didn’t keep my interest. And the art is just kind of dull too. Very little face expression but there is lots of detail else where (clothing and backgrounds for example).

My father recomended this. I'm not getting into it yet thought. I've requested the light novel instead.
The characters look too similar, and the lettering makes it hard to tell who is speaking. Neither of those should be a problem in the light novel.

As a fan of the anime I wanted to see more of the story, so here I am! It's a decent academy fantasy, not really that different from all the others. I just really like the main character and her struggles. 😊

Shows promise, but vol. 1 left me with the story being middle of the road to me personally. I like the artstyle and there are parts I do enjoy but for a vol.1 it's not really convincing me to continue or drop it. For this series I need another volume to make up my mind. The light novel is better but this is not bad
The art is kind of off-putting compared to the LN cover and interior illustrations and sometimes there is too much per page, making it hard to read. But the story itself is good.
