WHY KANNADA NEEDS ITS OWN GRAMMAR

Rate this book
There are two main aims for this book. One is to give information regarding the type of Kannada grammar that may be taught to school children, if at all it is to be taught to them. The other is to point out the path that the research students of universities need to take if at all they are to be successful in their research on Kannada grammar.
Answers to questions such as whether it is necessary to teach Kannada grammar to school children, and if necessary, which method must be followed, and whether the grammar should be taught directly, or whether it needs to be taught only indirectly by pointing out how words and sentences that are used in the language, can be given only by educational experts. Hence, I have not tried to give answers to such questions here.
But answers to questions regarding the type of Kannada grammars that needs be taught can only be given by a linguist. Further, only a linguist can say whether the grammar text books on Kannada that are being used today are actually doing this job properly. The educational experts in Karnataka are making a big mistake in this regard. They appear to have themselves taken decisions not only about how to teach Kannada grammar but also what to teach under that subject.
The educational experts are wasting the precious time of school children by teaching irrelevant and wrong things in the name of Kannada grammar. I have explained in this book how this is happening today. My hope is that they will read this at least once and realize what a great mistake they are committing. Others who are interested in teaching Kannada grammar may also like this book.
The research activities on Kannada grammar that are going on in the universities of Karnataka appear to be not discovering anything new about that subject. I think the reason for this is that the research is proceeding in the wrong direction. It is not enough to understand what earlier Kannada grammarians like Keshiraja have said about Kannada grammar. One has to raise questions like whether there are any mistakes in what they have said or whether there are any topics that they have not covered. It becomes a research only when the students find answers to such questions.
There are thousands of topics in Kannada grammar that we know nothing about. This book shows what some of these topics are. Hence this book can become a guide for those who want to do research on Kannada grammar.
