4-1/2 stars. Won this in a contest. Really liked Jake and how he helped Robin and had his tough heart melted by baby Emma. Robin was great but I wish she reacted a bit different when in trouble. Overall such a great read and so glad Jake found out the answers he needed so he & Robin can be together. Love seeing the characters from the series interact with our main characters - Pike(& Hans), Annie(Slugger), Nick, Spencer and even a mention of Josie & her son. Looking forward to Pike's story. Julie Miller is an autobuy favorite for me.

Very good book. Robin is the single mother of a baby girl. She owns the flower shop in the area where the Red Rose Rapist has been active. When she works late one night she is attacked on the way to her car. She is saved by Jake who had been passing by and heard her scream. While Jake is glad he was able to help, he just wants to go back to his quiet life staying out of everyone's way.
I liked Robin a lot. She is a successful business owner who has become a single mother by adopting a little girl. As important as she feels her business is little Emma is her number one priority. When Jake rescues her Robin's greatest concern is making sure that Emma is safe. At first she is afraid of Jake, until she realizes that he was helping her. She found herself trusting him in spite of his frequent assertions that he is not a nice man. I really loved the way that, even after he explained his memory loss and nightmares, she insisted that he was a good man and she had nothing to fear from him. Her faith in him was just what he needed.
Jake was fantastic. He had been shot in the head two years earlier and as a result had no memories from before that. He suffers from nightmares where he is caught in a fire and shooting at people. He has a bag with IDs in multiple names and has no idea if he is one of the good guys or a bad guy. As a result he keeps himself separate from people, not allowing himself to get involved for fear of hurting someone. When he comes to Robin's rescue there is something about her and her daughter that keeps him coming back to her. He tries so hard to convince her that she should stay away from him but his inner nice guy keeps showing through. I especially loved his interactions with the baby. He was so afraid of her at the beginning, sure that he would hurt her. By the end of the book he was so comfortable with her that he could care for her without breaking a sweat. I also liked how the mystery of his identity was a concern of his all the way through and how that mystery was solved in the end.
I also really liked the brief appearances of characters from previous books, and the chance to catch up on their lives. I loved seeing Pike and Hans and really hope that he will have his own story soon - maybe with Robin's friend Hope?

Another great book by Julie Miller! I am a big fan of hers. The last couple of books weren’t fully to my liking but this was exactly what I like, minus one thing.
I loved the character of Robin. She is a single mother, who has adopted a baby girl she calls Emma. She is successful in her business and at the same time always has Emma foremost on her mind. When she is attacked and then saved by Jake, she feels there is much more to the man than what he presents himself as. I liked how they both felt that there was also something more to their attraction for each other.
Jake is definitely honorable and shows true integrity. Having lost his memory 2 years ago, he keeps to himself rather than become close to others and later have them hurt because of him and regret their friendship with him. He also does not have any relationship with women since he doesn’t remember anything about his past life, except that he might have committed a major crime. Too many books show men spending meaningless nights with women despite having a strong feeling that they might have done something really bad which could come back and cause real trouble for them and those close to them. He is so caring of Robin and Emma. I LOVED how Jake was so afraid of the baby in the beginning, handling her with extra care. I found it hilarious how his thoughts were described as he thought of everything that could happen to her.
The only thing that I was upset with was that I was expecting a bit more focus throughout the book on the revelation of the mystery behind Jake’s memory loss. Since that was a major characteristic of his character, I wanted that to hold the same importance as the mystery of who was after Robin and Emma. The truth about his past just came out in the last few pages at the end. It seemed like the word limit for Harlequin made it hard to fully develop the story with both ideas as I mentioned. This is similar to the reason why the previous book ended so abruptly.
I had a great time reading Robin and Jake’s story with a hint of the two characters that will be in the next book. I can’t wait to read Pike Taylor’s story with Robin’s friend, Hope. September is just too far away…

I loved this book, and this series. I can’t wait for the next one to come out! I love all the twist, and turns, action, suspense, and romance.
Jake has amnesia, and can’t remember if he is a good guy, or bad guy or anything about his life. He couldn’t sleep after waking up from a nightmare, so he went for a walk in the rain late at night. He heard a scream, and went to see what was happening. He fought the guy that was attacking Robin. He stayed with her that night until the police got there, then he slipped back into the shadows. He was a loner, didn’t have friends, never chit chatted. He watched Robin from the shadows over the next few days, and had to come to her rescue more than once. Robin saw something in Jake, she saw his pain, and wanted to help him. I loved the book, because they helped each other. Jake protected Robin, and her baby daughter Emma, while Robin gave Jake her love. Emma also won my heart in this book. I love babies! Wow the villain in this book caught me by surprise. I love books that I am not able to guess who the villain is.

And whether he remembered the details or not, he doubted the reunion would be a pleasant one. In this story, we have Jake who lost his memories. He has been like that for two years. He keeps having nightmares, where he kills. It's after waking up of one of his nightmares, that he decides to take a walk and ends up rescuing Robin of some man trying to rape/kill her.
Even if he didn't want to at first, he keeps protecting Robin and her daughter Emma because it seems the person who tried to kill her, wasn't exactly the Red Rose Rapist. Maybe is someone related to Emma.
I liked Jake very much. Even with his memory lost he tries to do the right thing. Sometimes he gets conflicted because he doesn't know if he's the good or bad guy in the picture, considering the fakes IDs, the arms he has, the scars on his face and the nightmares where he kills.
Robin is the one who can make him believe he's a good man, a hero, at least for her and Emma. Later he discovers she wasn't mistaken about him.

Ok, more like a 3.5. There were moments that the h had me shaking my head. So she owned a florist shop right in the area the serial rapist targeted women. And... she worked late? Didn't have a trusted employee hang around? Even better, she never suspected that her books being off were because someone might be helping themselves to her inventory. Yeah; bit slow on the uptake there.
The H... I got. he didn't remember his name, or whether he was a good guy or not, so he tried to avoid drawing attention to himself. Darned knight in shining armor gene made it difficult.
So his past caught up with him, and she was targeted by her adopted daughter's birth mom and uncle. Woohoo; lots of enemies everywhere, although...why he didn't keep his weapons stash handy at all times...(so his past couldn't find it and use the toys therein against him). I like the fact that this one had random civilians as the H/h rather than yet another cop.

Quick read,so not very detailed or in depth but I still liked it. More of a beauty and the beast type story than an amnesia story. I did like it and hope to see Jake and Robin in the next installment of this Precinct series by Julie Miller

I loved that Assumed Identity didn't fit the usual pattern of this series. It was fresh and definitely fit the "Intrigue" category. It definitely finished with a twist and leads seamlessly to her next book. I can't wait for it to come out!

Good story. My only complaint about this book was Jake’s abrupt and rude behavior at the beginning of this story. Other than that, the grammar errors and the character Robin mistakenly being referred to as her baby’s name, Emma, once or twice, this was a good book.

4.7 Star Review – Assumed Identity
I recommend this book.
I enjoyed this book by Julie. This book includes passion, laughs, heartache, suspense, stalking, and gun fights in this story.
Jake Lonergan lost his memory after being shot in the head. He has horrible nightmares but does not know what they mean. While out walking one night after a nightmare he hears screaming and save a lady from an attacker.
Robin Carter awakes after passing out from the pain of a beating to Jake standing over her. Once she realizes he is not her attacker she accepts his help in rescuing her daughter from the car before the attacker comes back to finish the job or take her baby.
As the story goes on Robin finds out a co-worker is stealing from her. Someone is stalking her. She also realizes that she needs Jake no matter how much he tries to push her away.
Is someone after both Jake and Robin? If not why would someone be after Jake? Who is the father of Robin’s adopted baby?
Love how Julie’s character’s such you into the story and you feel like you really know them.
This is a truly great story that starts out with a horrific beating but ends in such sweet love. Once again great job Julie. Look forward to the next book in this series “Task Force Bride” out in September 2013 where Edison “Pike” Taylor meets his match.

Mystery man saves a damsel in distress but doesn't want to. Tries to leave her alone but she's always in danger. She has a cute-as-anything-baby, too, just irresistible even for a mystery man.
The KCPD Task Force is still working to find the Rose Red Rapist and his accomplice/helper. When the owner of the floral shop in the area is attacked one night leaving work, the mystery man saves the day. The task force wants to find the connection, since Robin was left without being sexually assaulted. The mystery man is too much of a mystery for Montgomery and Fensom of the task force and they look in to his background.
Who he is comprises only part of the mystery here. This is a good one.

I love Julie Miller's books. They are each great as a stand alone story but they are also great if you like series books. I am a series book lover and have read all of Julie's books. You can't go wrong either way.

I enjoyed the book but had to take off a star because the characters did several things that did not make sense to me. Among them, walking into what they knew was an ambush where they would be sitting ducks, with the BABY. There were others, but I still liked the characters and story
