From medical secretary to court reporter to property manager to owner of a special events decorating company, my resume reads as if I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. But one thing that has remained constant through the years is my love for writing. I currently pen fun and fast-paced inspirational romance and romantic suspense stories. My books have won several awards and been nominated for two RITA® awards and an RT Reviewers’ Choice Best Book Award.

After spending most of my life in Florida, a few years ago, I moved to the mountains of North Carolina, where I write my stories outside on the back deck in the summertime and inside in front of the fireplace in the wintertime. When I’m not writing or doing writerly things, I enjoy hiking, camping, kayaking—almost anything outdoors. My two grown daughters and grandkids live too far away for my liking, so I now pour all that nurturing into taking care of two sassy black cats.

Flee the Darkness is a very edgy story that started off with a suspenseful scene and kept me engaged to the end. It has everything that I like in a romantic suspense with romantic tension, danger, second chances, and faith. Melissa Langston left Atlanta when Eugene, a casual acquaintance, became a stalker that she got a restraining order against but it hasn't stopped him. She went back home to Harmony Grove, Florida near Lakeland where she found a place to live and a job as a court transcriptionist. She changed her name and covered her tracks hoping that Eugene would not follow her. But things start happening to frighten her...notes left on her door, a broken window, seeing someone in her house. Who can it be? Her strange young neighbor or someone else? Not Eugene surely.
Memphis police officer Chris Jamison is on leave and back in Lakeland working his father's marine store after his father's death while he decides what to do with the store. He was surprised to see Melissa when he was giving a disposition. The two were sweethearts until their bad break up seven years ago. He senses that something is going on with Melissa even though she won't give him the time of day. He decides to check on her anyway and finds out what is going on with her.
Events escalate in Melissa's life while Chris and the local police try to find the elusive stalker and keep her safe. Melissa has a new faith after seeing the peace her best friend BethAnn has with her relationship with God. Melissa's faith helps her through the scares as well as dealing with Chris. This is a story that I highly recommend and I am glad that it is part of a new series.
I received a complimentary ARC from the author. All thoughts and opinions are mine only.

Don't read this one after dark...there's a creepy stalker on the loose! The story is very suspenseful and hard to lay aside as Melissa continues to find things out of place after fleeing a stalker in another town. She wants to believe it's someone else, but what's the likelihood of one woman getting two different stalkers in the same year in two different places? Chris, her former fiancé, is with the Memphis PD and is in town to finish out his late father's affairs. He listens when the small-town police shrug it off. Despite her not wanting to ever be around him again, he may be her only hope for staying safe.

The book does give a faith message and mentions going to church and finding faith in God, but never mentions Jesus or salvation.

I really enjoyed this book and it is hard to believe this is the author's first published book! The atmosphere and plotting was creepy and well done! The only minor complaint I have (I almost deducted a star for it, but the book overall was so enjoyable, I just couldn't) the main characters were SO distrustful of each other!! Even after the initial misunderstanding was cleared up, the heroine was still too quick to jump to the worst conclusions about the love interest. It left me feeling like they REALLY need to work on themselves and their past trust issues stemming from childhood before getting into a relationship. At the last page, I just was not left with the feeling they would have smooth sailing now but many other issues stemming from the heroine. Overall though, great suspense and book. Kudos!

I think we all have a default “fight or flight” setting that simply kicks in when danger approaches. But the default does not always work in every situation. Melissa was a fighter, but when it came to the person who was stalking her, she only saw one option left. She went into flight mode. When things turn weird and scary back home, she is ready to flee again. Although her former boyfriend, a police officer, is back in the area, she is ready to flee from him as well. Sometimes we set our expectations too high and no one can reach them. Maybe she expected more of him than she did of herself. He wanted to protect her but she was afraid he would let her down again. At what point do we start accepting that people really can change and overcome their shortcomings from the past? Is it reasonable to expect perfection from others when we are so imperfect ourselves? I can only speak for myself because I know me better than I know anyone else. I can relate to Melissa to an extent since I tend to be a perfectionist and expect others to be the same way. Aside from longevity of life, which is not the nature of a romantic suspense, the only other solution is to turn loose of those expectations and leave them in the hands of a loving God. Melissa has choices to make regarding the police officer and how to handle the situation with the person who apparently is obsessed with her. The suspense will grab you at the start and not let go until the end. I received an advance copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.

I enjoyed this book. It got really intense and suspenseful at the end when the heroine was fighting for her life. She had escaped to Harmony Grove to get away from her stalker but did her stalker follow her there or is it someone else in the community. I had to keep reading to find out. While there she renews her friendship with an old boyfriend. She had bitter feelings for her. The reason I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 is the heroine. For much of the book she was not very likeable in the way she treated her former boyfriend who only wanted to protect her.

Melissa flees her abusive ex-husband as fast as her car can take her to Harmony Grove, Florida. She has a history in Harmony Grove, a place her ex didn't know about. Like any small town, it's a tough place to keep a secret. Old friends and acquaintances try to draw Melissa back into life with awkward, funny, and eventually dangerous results. This fast-paced inspirational romance is suspenseful and believable.

not totally sure

I disliked the main female character a lot, expecting perfection in a boyfriend of twenty, but making all kinds of allowances for her own words and behaviours, and still doing that seven years later.
I got fed up with all the negative thinking and judging by her.
But in the end after both of them having life ending experiences they professed love, instantly got engaged and were talking about children!
Yeah so I wasn’t totally convinced by this kind of writing or trope at all.

Didn't see that coming

Except I did. From the beginning.

*spoilers*

It really wasn't that hard to figure it out. Trying to shift blame from the most obvious and logical choice to the one that checks the boxes didn't work. It just made Melissa look foolish. But, how could her stalker find her? She just changed-only- her last name and moved back to her hometown. I can't imagine how her stalker found her. And her absolute refusal to entertain the notion that her precautions were barely precautions directed the focus elsewhere.

And she was generally not a likeable character in the first place. Her life's motto, something about men being reliable until a hotter piece of ass shows up then they bail... I'm paraphrasing, was disgusting. And actually quite sad. I understand her circumstances shapd her world view. But there was not really any growth there. Maybe a few mentions from her BFF about holding men to impossible standards. And then all of a sudden.... "I'll work on it". That is some seriously deep programming! It takes more than "I'll work on it to undo that.

And Chris had faults too. He behaved badly, though not as bad as Melissa initially thought, but he was also scared. They both were. Which is to be expected when you engage in behaviors you aren't ready for!

Plot aside, there were a ton of inconsistencies that were distracting and annoying. How old is Chris? 29 or 27. The math in any given situation doesn't add up. And is Melissa the same age? Or two years younger? He stated they were together 5 years. When did they start dating? Was she 13 and he 15 because ew.

And a big one. He proposed marriage. At least twice. But when she turns up pregnant, he panics? Kind of understandable. But he was already gearing up to marry this girl. Support her. Move in together! Yet he wanted to adopt out their baby. Those situations just don't make any sense.

Not my favorite read. Its really hard when the main character is so unlikable. And petty.

Flee the Darkness drops the reader right into a very scary situation, as the heroine is trying to escape someone who is actively stalking her! The author accurately captured the fear and terror that Melissa was feeling in those opening pages.

I liked that this was a second chance at love story and I really liked the hero, Chris. I struggled with liking Melissa because of her quick judgments and unforgiving attitude toward Chris. However, she grew a lot emotionally throughout this novel and I did end up liking her and hoping for the best for her and Chris.

Flee the Darkness introduces the town of Harmony Grove and begins a new series. The suspense was definitely intense and built throughout the entire book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Very mediocre

I had high hopes, especially since this had a Christian emphasis. That was good, but the main character was rather unlikable for much of the book. And the last few chapters really dragged on. I’m glad it ended well, predictably, but mostly, I’m glad it ended.

Exciting, creepy stalker story. But I loved more, the history between the characters and the betrayal that shaped the past of their relationship.

Melissa only wants to live a normal life, and she can't help that her ex-boyfriend is a psycho. After cutting ties with him, then having a restraining order filed against him, Melissa decides to leave Atlanta behind. She heads to Harmony Grove with a new last name, a new address, and a new job.

What she didn't expect was to be reunited with her cheating, lying ex-boyfriend Chris Jamison.

Chris, a Memphis cop, is in town to take care of his late father's estate matters in Harmony Grove. Learning that his ex was living in town put to bed the nagging question he'd had about whether he should put down roots in his old hometown and take over his dad's business. Now, there was no question in Chris's mind—he could never live in the same town with Melissa.

But when evidence of a stalker plagued Melissa once again, they found themselves working together to bring about justice.

I've read several of Carol's novels throughout the years, and her writing always amazes me. Carol is a wonderful storyteller, and she makes writing look easy. She develops unique character personalities in a way that feels organic and individualistic. The building of plot is fluid, and the storyline moves through my mind like scenes of a movie.

What I additionally appreciate about Carol's writing is that she is able to exquisitely develop suspense and intrigue while knitting a message of faith and hope subtly, yet powerfully.

As I seem to always say, if you're looking for a clean, lightly romantic, suspenseful read, give Carol J. Post a look. You might just decide to make some space on your bookcase for her books! :)

Wow! I could not get enough of this book. The amount of details that Carol J. Post added brought me on a journey to another place. I was holding my breath in fear, and swooning right along with Melissa. It couldn’t have been easy for her to have to flee for her safety and start over, so I can’t blame her for being shy about jumping back into a relationship with an old flame. Even if that old flame was gorgeous and had hero written all over him. When trouble seems to have followed her, she has no choice but to reluctantly allow him back into her life. Chris only wants to make sure she is safe, and isn’t ready to jump back into old habits himself. Going home wasn’t in either of their plans, but maybe God’s plans are better and a little more important.

Post had me reading way too late into the night. I had no way of guessing what could possibly happen next, and was dying to find out. I easily fell in love with the characters and wasn’t close to ready to say goodbye. I am secretly hoping they make an appearance in a future book. I can’t wait to see what Post comes up with next, but I know it’s going to be good! I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys any type of Romantic Suspense. I received a copy of this book from the author and was in no way forced to post a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Carol J. Post never fails to deliver an edge-of-the-seat, suspense filled story and Flee the Darkness is no exception. The first installment of her new Harmony Grove series, the suspense begins practically on the first page and continues to escalate throughout most of the book. Ample twists and surprises abound which was enough to keep me turning those pages.

When a dating relationship turns frighteningly obsessive, Melissa left her life in Georgia and returned to her hometown where she finally began to feel safe. At least she did until signs of a stalker began to plague her once again. To make circumstances even more difficult, her former boyfriend has also returned to town. She wants nothing to do with him – she can’t risk another heartbreak – but she needs his protection and he is determined to help.

Another great novel from Post is complete with action, danger, romance, and faith. I loved watching Melissa grow in her new faith and learn to forgive Chris for the past. I also liked the fact that the author kept me guessing due to the multiple potential suspects as the tale progressed. Can’t wait for book two in this series!

This story is a clean Christian suspense romance.
Melissa Langston was living in Atlanta when a stalker makes her fear for her life. Her first instinct was to return to the town of her youth. The place that holds painful memories of a young love, and heartbreak .
Chris Jamison, now a Memphis police officer, is also back home. His father has passed away, and he needs to take care of the business. They are both shocked to meet again and finding themselves back in their hometown.
Chris suspects Melissa/Missy is hiding something and when he finds out the stalker has likely followed her to Harmony Grove, he’s determined to keep her safe.
Now they both have to face not only the stalker , but also their past. A past that has left Missy not trusting Chris and men in general.
This engaging story was full of suspense and the pull and push between these two characters. Can they learn to forgive and trust each other? Can they but their trust in God?
Though I personally might have cut a few scenes out, it was still a very good book.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Melissa is a woman who doesn't have anywhere to turn. A man is stalking her and won't give up. She's tried telling him that she doesn't have feelings for him but that hasn't worked. She got a restraining order against him but that hasn't worked either. She decides that her only recourse is to leave suddenly and return home, not what she wants. However, the crazy "episodes" continue and she can't figure out how that is possible. The stalker couldn't have follower her! Eve more frustrating is that local law enforcement won't take her seriously. But, her former boyfriend is back in town taking take of his late father's business and he is law enforcement so he helps her - that is the LAST thing she wants! She doesn't want to be around Chris anymore. He wasn't there for her when she needed him and she can't depend on him. Chris knows he's not the man for Melissa but he can't help wanting to assist her during this time when the local police won't take her seriously! She's in danger! A great story with lots of action, wondering who is stalking Melissa, how it's going to end, will someone help Melissa in time!

Flee the Darkness is a taut suspense involving Melissa Langston, a.k.a. Melissa Morris and her deranged stalker, Eugene. Melissa returns to her hometown, Harmony Grove, FL, to get away from Eugene. Shortly after her arrival in Harmony Grove she runs into her ex-boyfriend and love of her life, Chris Jamison, who is in the area to sell his deceased father's marine supply store and house. They both realize they have unresolved feelings from their break up 7 years before. Working through their issues creates stress that is taken to the next level when notes and flowers from an unknown admirer start showing up at the house Melissa is house-sitting.
I enjoyed the thrill ride of the story and the difficulties Melissa and Chris had in finding a way to get past their history. The book could be described as a mashup of a Hallmark movie and an episode of Criminal Minds. The themes of Faith and Forgiveness were interwoven through the characters in the book. Faith is the faith in the Lord to help to overcome the things that out of the characters control. As for Forgiveness, Melissa and Chris had to learn to live the forgiveness found in the Lord's prayer, "forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors" (Matthew 6:12) They couldn't move forward until they learned to let go of the past.
I was given a copy of the book. All opinions are my own.

Melissa Morris, having fled back home to save her life, is now working as a court recorder. It's Friday afternoon and whilst she loves her new job in Florida, she is looking forward to going home after the last deposition. Imagine her shock, horror or whatever else you might like to call it, when she hears the voice of Chris Jamison! Chris had left Florida and her seven years ago. Now here she is trapped with nowhere to go! Is Chris just as shocked to see Melissa as she is him?

Having only been a Christian for 3 months, is God pricking Melissa's heart to forgive? Chris, a cop, has come home to sort out his late father's estate. Alas that is a mess but even worse than that, Chris can see Melissa is in trouble even if she won't confide in him. Who is leaving the notes, looking in the window etc?

I really enjoyed this story. It has a good mixture of suspense, danger, romance and life in general. A good, clean read that I recommend. I was provided a copy of the book by the author. Thanks, Liz

Harmony Grove may seem like a charming, family-friendly, home town, but there are plenty of bad people lurking around. Hero, Chris, has returned to Harmony Grove to finalize his father's estate and sell his father's marine business. Heroine, Missy flees to Harmony Grove to hide from a crazed stalker. A difficult childhood, immature behavior, and a relationship that ended badly with Chris in her youth has left Missy with emotional barriers and a cold attitude toward men, and life in general. However, as the stalker closes in Missy realizes she needs the help of her friends more than ever. Clean with light romance and plenty of action this inspirational romantic suspense will give you goosebumps and set your heart to pounding till the climatic end. Thank you to author Carol J. Seven years after they left Harmony Grove, FL in different directions following a post high-school break-up, Melissa and Chris are forced to return to their hometown---Melissa, to escape an overbearing boyfriend in Atlanta, GA and Chris, a Memphis, TN cop on leave, to sell his late father's business. Friends and neighbors conspire to help restart their relationship, but it is a restart of their relationship with God that allows them to trust each other when others in their lives, including a dishonest employee and a home invader, are untrustworthy and need to be brought to justice.

I had a particular affinity for "Flee the Darkness," as the location of most of the action was in Polk County, FL, where I grew up.

Wow! What a book. A great page turner. Melissa, a court stenographer in Atlanta, has a stalker. She filed a restraining order but he always disappears before the police get there. After he holds a knife to her throat she decides to flee. Melissa moves back to Florida, her home. Sure that her stalker won’t find her, she settles into her new life. Then on the job she encounters her old flame Chris. He’s visiting to take care of affairs for his recently deceased father. Chris is a detective and someone she never thought she’d see again. Then anonymous “gifts” start appearing on Melissa’s front porch. She’s being stalked again! I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves romantic suspense.

Edge of the seat suspenseful romance story - “Because she burned her bridges when she told him to go. And he burned his when he walked away.”
“Burn me once, shame on you. Burn me twice, shame on me. It was a lesson her mother still hadn’t learned. Melissa had, and she didn’t do second chances.”
Would there be a second chance for love? - “Sometimes closed doors stay that way permanently. Other times, life gives us second chances. We just have to decide what to do with them.” Read to find out!
Highly recommend!

When a friend decides he wants to be more than that and won’t take no for an answer she moves back to her home town. And connects with her first love. When she comes home and finds a window broken, she calls the police. When she finds notes on her door she calls the police. When she feels someone is in the house she calls the police. BUT they think she is nutso. Her first love believes her — but she is not sure she trusts him to be there for her. BUT only God can always be there and NEVER disappoint her. THIS BOOK is amazing — and scary!

This is the first book I read by Carol J. Post, but I'm sure I'll be reading more. The story was well-written and well-edited. It ended with a satisfying conclusion.

This was a fantastic story with plenty of suspense and intrigue. I had mixed feelings about the heroine and thought her unrealistic expectations made her a tad unlikeable. Her spiritual ARC gave her a change of attitude that improved my impressions of her though.

I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

This was a good read, one that is full of suspense, as Melissa and her friends try to find out who is sending her threatening notes and terrorizing her by making her think he is in her house at times. I was confused about who the real perpetrator was until the end of the novel because the author did a good job of keeping me guessing. This is the first in a series, and I hope the next book is as good as this one has been.

Flee the Darkness begins with suspense and it keeps building. I can feel the fear of knowing something is not right but, without proof, you begin to believe you're losing your mind. I love the small town and friends that help both Melissa and Chris, as he has his own devastating problem, find each other and fight the darkness. My first book by this author but I've already downloaded the next in this series.

This was a good storyline. I had to take a break in reading a couple of times due to the intensity of the events. I will probably read other books in this series when/if they become available on Kindle Unlimited. (I would have to file bankruptcy to buy all the books I want to read 😁). The characters were likeable. Some things were pretty obvious, but I won't elaborate so as not to spoil it.

Riveting

I was captivated from the beginning. The fast pace of the narrative never slowed, slinging me around curves and leaving my stomach in a lurch as I plummeted from one high point, down through the detail in story line, to the next. Flee the Darkness is the first Carol Post book I've read. It will it NOT be the last.
