Heather Allen is the author of The Just Breathe Trilogy, Feeling This, The Sound of Shooting Stars, Storm of Ekkos and The No Regrets Series. Heather realized her dream of becoming an author with her mermaid trilogy. She savors every moment on her author journey and the wonderful friends she has met along the way. She has many more books planned. More ideas pop up than she has time to write about.
Heather currently resides in the scorching hot state of Florida. She holds degrees in education. She is a hopeless romantic who loves to read just about anything. When she isn’t teaching, writing or reading, Heather can be found at the beach or out on the water paddle boarding.
I loved this last book in her trilogy. I'm blissful that James has found his promised, which is Alody. Freaking hell, I've always hoped... since the second book that Alex and Ever will end up together. But anyone who have read this knows they didn't thanks Celia and Jack. i don't know wether to love that "promised" thing or loathe it. I hated how Roman easly killed his brother, Jaspen. And Sara, oooh I knew it, she can never do any good. I didn't like how the war went. I didn't like how it it ended as well. It was as if Roman did not actually put up a good fight, he was just struck by the trident's lighting (whatever you call it) and them boom!
Erebus won. I never saw how powerful Ever and James are.
But still, I loved the book nonetheless, especially how Heather has managed to divide the role equally to the characters. I was amazed how Heather ended the book. Looking forward to Amber and Garrett's story!
I recommend this boy to everyone who loves mermaids, who loves sea and who loves swoon worthy guys.
Ever is still having her dreams, although they are a bit different now. So while trying to understand what they mean, she also has to come to terms that not everyone is happy with the battle that just took place. So with yet another battle looming, Ever and James must work together, to try and give back freedom to everyone under the sea. But sometimes freedom come with a price…and Ever realizes that that freedom isn’t cheap.
Ever is still wishy washy as ever in this one. One minute she is hating Alex and the next she wants what is best for him. I sometimes do not understand that girl. But I can’t help but love her character. I think her problem is she cares too deeply and trusts too easily. She knows it, and at times she will try to pull back…leading her to be wishy washy. And yes, even though she is wishy washy, she is defintely a strong character and will do great things.
Oh you caught that I mentioned Alex? Yeah, not going to go into that one. Just read and you’ll see what I mean. (Insert maniacal laugh here)
And James, poor, sweet James. I started really liking him in the last book. And I cannot believe how much he has grown since the start of the series. He has stepped up from the snot nose teenager he was in the beginning into someone that can lead a group into battle. I say that is one heck of a change, don’t you? And I just loved his part of the story. So much happens with him and it isn’t all good. Be warned…you will probably want to smack him around a bit before all is said and done.
Allen writes a phenomenal book that concludes the series. Even though I wasn't crazy over book 2, I knew that Allen would come back with vengeance and have me smiling and smitten with the how she ends the trilogy. And boy did she ever. The ending was fabulous and I am one smitten kitten. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
This is the 3rd book in the Just Breath trilogy. It accomplishes everything the reader is hoping for. Heather Allen has a way of getting you to fall in love with her characters, you find yourself rooting for the protagonist. It is SO much more than a mermaid story; it’s a love story with strong themes about love, friendship and family. This trilogy provides a great escape, a way to lose yourself in a world that is rich with color and adventure. The romance between Ever and Jack and James and Alody leaves you pining away for that deep love the couples feel! I’m looking forward to more from Heather Allen.
I couldn't be any happier being able to read this such amazing series! The books never had a dull moment. Never did I stop reading cause it never bored me. I honestly can't stop reading and only tired feeling from work made me pause reading and then I'll wake up in a few hours then read again before going to work. It saddens me only that I finished it so quick, haha! I can't contain the excitement that every chapter sustains me. I just have to know what happen next. This is so great. Really amazing writer, great imagination. You take me to the sea and back. I'm looking forward for your next books, Heather Allen! I'm a fan! =)
An amazing end to a brilliant series! Everything was wrapped up beautifully, leaving no question unanswered. I loved feeling like I was right there, back under the sea watching all the events unfold. The twist and turns left me gobsmacked, I actually yelled out loud at the characters from time to time. The emotion I was made to feel was that good. I can't wait for future books by Heather Allen.
I finally finished this book and I have to say that I was underwhelmed by the entire series. By book three, I would have thought that the author would have paid an editor to look over her manuscript(s) but this is still not the case. There were many grammatical and punctuation mistakes scattered throughout the story (capitalization: sometimes it was used incorrectly and other times it was missing; quotation marks: missing and sometimes used incorrectly; commas: the author’s biggest error – too many, not enough and used incorrectly). The author thanks a lot of people for beta-reading and loving her story but who is editing this?!?! That is what is important!
I would have given actual examples (with locations) but there were so many things to write down that I gave up in this book. It was just too exhausting.
This novel picks up where Barely Breathing leaves off and there is now talk of another big battle to be fought. We meet new characters and get to hear some information about both sides of the “war” from Jaspen’s point of view and then from Roman’s.
Ever is still whining, annoying and doing whatever she wants. She still has no problem using people (Alex) and, of course, she still faints a lot when she has to deal with reality. But in this book, she is even commenting on how much she does it and tells herself to step it up and stop fainting. That doesn’t really work but I like how the character actually knows that she is becoming pathetic.
I don’t know why all the characters were so concerned whenever Ever fainted. She did it so often that they should have just left her lying there until she woke back up. It’s not like she was injured or anything. I would roll my eyes whenever she would get that “familiar tingle” and think to myself “Oh boy, here we go again. Can’t this chick give it a rest already?”
The plot was okay. There were some plot holes and things that made absolutely no sense. I still have no idea how Jack and James were able to find Ever in time (was it through “traveling”? I am assuming that was how it happened). There were some more things that did not make sense but I did not feel like writing them down.
Jack and Ever still sounded very much the same through their individual narrations and the only way I could tell the difference between the two was when James would complain about how he didn’t understand girls or he would come out with a typical boy thought. Or, when Ever would go on and on about Jack or she would feel faint.
In the end, I really could not see why James and Ever were supposed to be so special and why they were the chosen ones. They honestly did not do anything spectacular that other people could not do themselves. They helped other people and they helped in the battle but, in my opinion, they was no reason for them to be labeled as special mer-people. In fact, I really did not see them come up with any special “wills” or do anything wonderful with their “wills” during the battle. Neither James nor Ever ever showed any sign of being “strong and powerful” mer-people that would cause others to look up to them or bow down to them.
The Epilogue was utterly ridiculous with the parent scene. Knowing the parents from the previous two books, their reactions were uncharacteristic and unbelievable.
There is still a lot of unnecessary “smirking” in Forever Breathing (25 instances) and I get taken out of the story every time it appears. Why are these kids so smug? Can’t they just smile or something?
I have to say that I am the type of person that hates it when authors use the same letter for their character names: Jack and James; Amber, Alex and Alody; Gam-aw, Gabbi and Garrett; Reggie, Roman and Ramous; Jenny and Jaspen; Seamus, Sara and Celia (same letter for Seamus and Sara; the same initial sound for Sara and Celia); Metea and Mersa; Ever and Eli. There are 26 letters in the alphabet. Why can’t the characters have their own alphabet letter? I constantly confused Jack and James with each other.
I really wanted more from this trilogy and I was saddened that it did not live up to my basic expectations. It was “sweet” in a way because there was nice romance but I never connected to any of the characters and they did not always seem to connect with each other. The only couple I could believe to be a pair would have been Alex and Ever. Their partnership felt more natural whereas Ever and Jack felt more forced.
I give this book 2.75 stars for the fact that Ever knew she was acting ridiculous with her fainting spells.
Overall, I give this trilogy 2.65 stars.
But, I will be generous because it’s the end of December and this will be the last series I will read for 2013.
I am a huge mermaid person, so I loved reading a series all about them. This series was different than others I've read, the villains were actually merpeople as well. It was interesting to read about different types of mermaids. The story has a theme of tolerance when people are different, which is always a good thing to learn or remember. I liked the ending as well, with understanding and moving forward, but also that lingering sense of more possibilities.
I loved the whole series. When will there be more. I will re-read them again and again. I am addicted to them. Please give me more. I feel like I was there with them the whole time. Keep up the great work.
Forever Breathing is the last book to Heather Allen's trilogy, and she definitely saved the best for last. All three books to Heather Allen's trilogy have been the most interesting books I have ever read, which makes it almost impossible for me to stop reading after I start each chapter. Heather Allen definitely does wonders with the third and final book, and makes the third book my favorite book by far. Before I continue I would like to warn readers that I may imput one or two spoilers throughout my review, and will try to limit them. The last book starts off continuing from after the battle between Jaspen and Semeaus where Ever realizes that the sea is her life now, because that is where Jack is. After the defeat of the Lior, Ever finally feels like getting comfortable with the sea because this is her new home and where she belongs. Unfortunately, before she is able to get fully settled into her new home, Alex breaks news to her that another Lior group is ready to attack Jaspens clan the Erebus. Ever immediately warns everyone and suspense starts to grow as they try to solve this problem. Without going any further to avoid spoiling it, my favorite thing about the third book is how Jack and Ever's relationship grows stronger then ever. For example, during the book Alex reveals to Ever that in the sea there is one person in the whole world who you are meant to be with, and if you find this person there will be amazing electricity between both of you and you will no. I used this example because Ever realizes this is what she has with Jack, discovering that he is her soulmate and that they must stick by each other no matter what happens. Meanwhile trying to recover from Sara, James then starts to quickly forgets about her when he finally finds his TRUE love. The suspense in this book is incredible, with Ever playing spy, trying to retrieve useful information on Roman's plan for the next battle against the Erebus making it almost impossible to stop reading. Those who are interested in books such as Twilight the Hunger Games, because of the romance and drama should definitely read this book. Forever Breathing consists of two love stories while having action at the same time. For example, the book captures a love story between Jack and Ever, and because Ever will do anything for Jack and her brother James would do anything for Alody they go undercover to help with the up coming war. They both relocate to a Lior city near Peru to try to find out information about the war so that they may stay with the ones they love in the sea, but they can't get caught. I strongly recommend this book, even to people who refuse to read, because this book is definitely like no other.
Forever Breathing is the final book in the Just Breathe series. If you haven't read the first two books I just want to warn you that spoilers may be found here if you continue reading. I thought this book tied up the series beautifully. I felt that with each book the story just got better and better. I am sad to see the series end as I am with all my favorite series that I have grown attached to. Not only is this genre so very interesting but also hard to resist delving into.
In Forever Breathing we find Ever immersed in a hard fought battle in the sea. She has found her way back with Jack. Who I wasn't a huge fan of in the last book. I was totally team Alex, well until the very end of Barely Breathing the second and previous book. Now I'm Jack's biggest fan. Now James Ever's brother is trying to lead a semi normal life but is drawn in again to the sea. There are so many things at stake and everyone is willing to do whatever it takes to ensure the cities survival. Ever has a mission to complete, one harder then she could of ever imagined.
The one thing that sealed my favorite book of the series status was the introduction of a soulmate/ promised one in this book. How finding that one you belong to is a very amazing thing. No matter what they went through to get there, it was all worth it. It seems that finding happiness that is well deserved put so much in perspective.
Everyone grew a great deal in the series and I enjoyed witnessing every little detail. I would of loved to see a glimpse into their future. I just want to make sure that these people I fell in love with are doing well.
This is a wonderful book from a series that you will not want to miss
Forever Breathing is the best book of the three in the trilogy! I love how James is more present in this book and his more emotional side comes out. It's James turn to experience the new underwater world that he now belongs to. I feel like his point of view on all this is more expressed and I think he is more grown up because of the decisions he makes and the courage and braveness that he shows in trying to protect Ever. I was surprised that after the last chaotic battle they all went through, it was not the end. It’s sad because the Erebus are just fighting for what is right, but instead someone who you would not expect wants to go against them. I love this trilogy most of all because of the romance. Forever Breathing has the most romance because it not only shows Jack and Ever's love, but it also brings up James new roller coaster love life. My favorite part, but also least favorite part is when Alex tells Ever that he knows she was pretending to like him for the Erebus. I have mixed feelings about this part because I was expecting Alex to be extremely mad, but instead he said he understands that Ever does not love him, and that she loves Jack. This book kept me on my toes with it's surprising turning points and my emotions were everywhere! I loved the ending to this trilogy, but I am also very sad it ended because I have never loved reading so much in my life. I recommend this book to teenage girls from ages thirteen to twenty-two because it has a lot of romance in it and is very dramatic. I cannot wait to read more of Heather Allen’s books!
This is the sweetest story about first love, your first broken heart and doing something you believe in. You MUST read Just Breathe and Barely Breathing to understand the story. In the first 2 parts you learn about the world under the sea and that the one choice that Ever makes will change her life and her brothers life forever. I love how all 3 books start exactly where the last one ended, there is no repeating of the story, it just keeps going. I think Ever is a great character one that you could develop into so many more stories (please Heather Allen). Ever starts as a sweet 17 year old girl and ends up a strong leader. I feel Heather Allen wrote Ever as the girl next door, one who would do anything for a boy (typical 17 year old girl) but then grows and realizes she needs to make choices for herself as well as her fellow mer-people. I love how in Forever Breathing James has such a huge roll and you get to understand his point of view and his reasons for fighting. Even though he and Ever are brother and sister, they are very different and have different reasons to make the choices that they do, yet they are still there for each other, family first. After reading this series, everyone will want to be a mer-person and have amazing "wills" like the Harding's. The story is an easy read and one that you can't wait to see what will happen next, and the ending was great, it leaves so many doors open for more...
I couldn't even finish this book, it was so horrible. The main girl Ever, made me want to slap her every time she was in the scene. I really enjoyed the storyline with the met people and all that, that was interesting. But there was this awful love triangle and what these two boys saw in this melodramatic, shallow girl who constantly fainted when she couldn't handle things (um, every chapter), I will never know. This story reminded me a lot of Twilight, but worse. So much worse.
Wow is all I can say it was an amazing end to the series. It was great I do wish there was more to the battle, more detail but overall I was happy with the story. It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat as I wanted to see how things worked out. I look forward to reading more from this author.
What an exciting ending to this series! Forever Breathing had a lot a great twists that I've come to expect! Every question was answered and all the loose ends were tied up!
I'm giving this 3.5 stars instead of just 3 like the previous books because I enjoyed this one a little bit more than the others. The ending satisfied me and gave good closure to the series.
Fantastic finish to the series!! So happy to see Ever and James both get their HEAs. Loved the action and the cast of characters and the finish. A must read trilogy!!
