Good Little Resource with History on Scottish Clans
Anyone with Scot-Irish Ancestry will appreciate this nice little reference book. It includes a well written history of the origins of Scottish clan society, including the early invasion periods and settlers, as well as a rather extensive overview of many, many Scottish Clans and their roots, name origins, key historical figures and events linked to them.
A glaring omission for me as a non-professional genealogical researcher, as well as a just person of interest, is the lack of an index or glossary. Not being able to quickly look-up and find Clan Chapter Headings, Clan Names, Key Names, Key Locations, etc. referenced in the book is very frustrating. Otherwise, I would have given this book a five ***** rating. However, every reference resource must be easily and quickly researchable.

Finding a family clan name not always mentioned is worth the 5 stars. The book has not much depth but gives good background and overviews of clans and their history. Sources at end.

Not enough of the interesting clan stuff. Should of done the clans badges in colour, bit disappointed in that section.

Nice Reference
This is a very detailed book. It serves well as a reference for the Scittish clans and their history. Enjoyed it.

May 2, 2021Good for very general information on family names. Very little here did I learn that was new as I am already deep into a geneological search, but it's not a bad place to start.

Considerable Detail
Having hit a brick wall for my bio family Moore, this has not only peaked my interest but provides a crack in a wall where perhaps I can renew my search.

I am currently working on my Family Ancestry and this is the greatest resource, for those of us linked to Scotland of long ago. Very exciting to discover an ancestor, then find more information about them in this book! The stories about the individual Clans are short but cover enough data to provide a picture of some of the highlights of their history.
Putting this on my Read shelf is deceptive, it will be referred to many more times in my quest to find my Ancestors!
