Misty found out early in life that things just don't come easy. She has learned to trust no one, and that you can't depend on anyone but yourself when the chips fall. Finally free of the states clutches she sets out on a whirl wind adventure called LIFE....But she never expected Drake....Drake... is Use to being in the lime light just graduated from college. Wondering what's next? Misty is a welcome surprise. So different from his everyday mundane experiences..Can two completely different people share a journey that could change both of their lives forever? Or will they end up destroying each other in the process?Escape to The UnKnown
The Unknown was not a very good book. The writing of the story was just not good. There was no real...it was just everything happened instantly and the conversations and everything were so unbelievable. The whole thing came off a bit clinical and too easy. It was just not good. I didn't care about anything or anyone because they were just..it was just too quick and easy.
The story starts off with Misty traveling to Florida to stay with her aunt (hopefully). She meets Drake almost right away and even for insta love this was really quick. They both instantly love each other and need each other and yeah. It was way too quick, even for insta love. Totally not believable. Just like everything in this story.
So Drake is giving Misty a ride, but then he ditches her when his girlfriend calls and is upset about it. Well quickly he realizes his mistake as he needs to be with Misty so he goes back for her. Only she is gone on the bus he got her a ticket for. So he follows the bus and sees this creepy guy go in the restroom after her. When he gets there the creepy guy is trying to rape her and he beats the guy pretty badly. Now I read some of the good reviews for books that I don't like just to see what people did enjoy about the story. One of them said how dreamy Drake was. He killed a guy for Misty. So dreamy. What? Do people honestly think that way? Is that really romantic? I find it a bit scary personally. Maybe he has other issues? Anger issues? Anything. I don't think a normal person would almost beat a guy to death, and if they did I don't think it would be this super positive thing. Yes good he helped, but that was a little too far. Anyways Misty is upset about what happened, but doesn't actually seem to be. They talked about it for a second and she says:
"He touched me and I didn't want him to. He took my security away."
Really? That is how you would be talking shortly after almost being raped? So blase and calm? This incident supposedly gives her nightmares, and she doesn't want to go to sleep at night because when she shuts her eyes she sees the creep, but she doesn't really seem that upset by what happened. It was just...I would expect someone to be more upset than that. Show a little more emotion. Any emotion.
So Misty had a rough past, but everything gets instantly better for her. Her aunt who didn't take her in when her parents died? Perfect. Super nice and Misty instantly forgives her for abandoning her. Yeah. She gets a job right away, gets a car from her aunt, gets a loving family and boyfriend. Yey her.
Well let's talk about this boyfriend Drake. I don't really know why I would like him. He keeps making out with random girls all the while thinking how much he needs and loves Misty. He breaks up with his girlfriend on the way home so he can be with Misty. He drops Misty off at her aunts and is super sad to leave her. She is his life now. Once home his ex shows up and starts making out with him. What does he do? Continues to make out with her for a little bit. Wow I see how much Misty really means to you...he gets a hickey from the ex, but somehow it is not there the next day when he sees Misty so she never has to know he was all sucking face with her. Then the day after sleeping (just sleeping) in his truck all night with Misty and thinking how much he loves her Drake is waiting for her to call and it is the afternoon and she hasn't called yet so he goes to his friends house. The friend is having a party and he has a few drinks then another girl starts making out with him. Again what does he do? Keeps making out with her. If he hadn't called her Misty at some point he would have had sex with her. Man he is such a keeper! It is like he cannot possibly not make out with a girl if she starts kissing him, even though the love of his life, his future, his everything, is not the one doing it. It was so annoying!
Then he brings the ex to Misty's place of work. And the ex is all over him. Does he do anything about this? No. Then he doesn't really get why Misty would be all upset. Um hello, just because you are trying to be nice doesn't mean you should let your ex hang all over you in front of your supposed girlfriend. Misty does ignore him for a week after that, not so much for the ex being all up on him, but because then she realizes that she cannot fit into his world. He is rich and she is not and so it won't work. Well, that like everything else gets instantly resolved once they do talk. It all moves way too quickly and there is no real development to the story. It is just instantly this happened. After their first date Drake tries to get Misty to move in with him. I guess that is what you would need to do to make sure you don't go making out with other girls...So annoying. Everything in the book was just way too simple.
"I love everything about him. He wasn't completely honest with me, but I hadn't been forthcoming with my past. "
Yes this would work out perfect. So dreamy. Ugh. Not a good book. Will not be reading the next book to see what happens as I just don't care.
It took me awhile to finally write this review, not because something is wrong with the story, but because of the emotions it brought out of me. I immediately felt connect to Misty's spirit, she had a hard hand dealt to her in life and she is pretty down on herself understandably. She just aged out of the system and was basically thrown on the streets with only a suitcase and only one-hundred and fifty dollars to her name, to get her all the way to her aunts house in Florida.
As fate would have it, she meets Drake who is going to the same town she is on her way to. Drake is a sweet southern gentleman who finds himself completely enchanted by Misty. Drake is a recent graduate, who went against his families wishes when he majored in Art Literature instead of law like his father. So, going home was not exactly what he was looking forward to, not to mention he had to go home to a girlfriend who he has lost interest in.
Misty and Drake start the trip to Florida, and as time goes on Drake and Misty feel this magnetic pull towards the other, and feelings they never thought were possible started to form. Drake's girlfriend Sara does not like Drake driving this random girl alone to Florida, and of course she gives him a pretty hard time. Drake feels pressured to stop the trip, so he buys Misty a bus ticket for the rest of the trip home. It isn't long after he leaves Misty at the bus stop that he realizes what an ass he is and cuts ties with Sara, making up his mind to go back and get Misty in hopes that she will forgive him. Drake shows up in the nick of time and saves Misty from a horrible situation, and finds himself in trouble from defending her, but he doesn't care, she is safe, that is all that matters. Drake becomes Misty's comfort, he makes her feel special and makes her feel things that she is not sure that she deserves, after all she is this normal girl and he is this wealthy, college graduate with his whole life ahead of him. Oh, but how she is wrong, they need each other.
When they arrive in Florida, it seems that Misty's life is going to be normal for once. She is taken in by her Aunt Silvia who is her mothers twin. Silvia apologizes for leaving Misty to be a ward of the state, and they agree to move forward. It is during this time that we start to learn more about Misty and horrible past. Even with that she tries to move forward, gets a job and plans on starting college.
Loving a wealthy man is not a easy think for Misty, she doesn't feel like she will fit in with his family and that he may regret being with someone as simple as her. Misty is beyond wrong. It doesn't matter, he wants to be with Misty and he would gladly give it up to be with her. Misty convinces herself that they aren't meant to be together. Eventually they work things out , only for their worlds to come crashing around them.
This book was so good. It made me cry so many times because I felt connections to both Misty and Drake, having been through some of the same things that they went through. The raw emotion in some parts of The Unknown is gut-wrenching, and delves deep into your soul bringing on a birrage of feelings. Misty and Drake are characters that you will find yourself cheering for because they have been so much, and they finally deserve to be happy. Lara Henley is one fabulous author and has dragged me into this story and I am dying to know what happens with Misty and Drake.
I had really been looking forward to reading The Unknown, and it didn’t take me long to feel like this was a heartfelt book for Lara Henley. It was an easy read which took me just one sitting to finish but whilst I liked the premise of this book, at times I struggled to connect and probably didn’t enjoy The Unknown as much as I thought I would.
I guess my issue with the book was the pacing. It all felt too rushed. Okay, I know it was meant to feel like Misty and Drake’s feelings were rushed but to me, the whole story seemed too quick and I found it hard to really root for either of the main characters.
Most of the characters were written well, so I can’t criticise Lara Henley’s character development for that. We learn quite a bit about Misty and Drake in phases progressing throughout the book, and the bits we didn’t learn all helped in the way The Unknown panned out.
However, I felt like I should have liked them more. At times, I knew as the reader I should have been more sympathetic over some of the things which had and were happening to Misty, yet that just wasn’t happening to me. Drake was also built up to be sweet in the way he felt about Misty but I couldn’t connect.
Despite this, I really did get to enjoy The Unknown a lot more over the half-way mark. With all the minor little teasers during the book, I sensed that it would lead up to a strong finish and the ending did not disappoint.
I also liked how the whole story all seemed to connect to the title of the book. The Unknown was a theme throughout in both Misty and Drake’s lives as they learnt and experienced things so new to them.
The Unknown ended with a flourish which told me that I was right to stick with it. I had grown to root for Misty and Drake a little bit more but for me, it was characters like Aunt Silvia, Lizzy and Carla that helped me enjoy the book. The conclusion to this book won me over and I’m intrigued with how the follow up book will turn out.
*I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Now we all know I always give my complete and honest opinion when it comes to my reviews and I will do that with this one too. I was given an ARC for this book for the blog tour from the author. I was excited to get to read it because of all the things I have seen on her author page, the excerpts and everything. I started to read it to read it on Nov.1st and was able to finish it by Nov.6th, I would've gotten it done sooner but it was a busy weekend. It is hard to really say I think I would give it 3.5 stars. It was a fast read but it seemed like she didn't do as much character development as I would like to see. It is a love story about a girl who was in a foster home for the last 7 years of her life, who gets out of the foster home and meets this rich boy and they quickly fall in love. A little too fast for me. I would've liked to see that she gets to know him a little more and have maybe a few more encounters before the author makes them "fall in love." It was well written and she left such a good cliff hanger at the end that I will definitely read the next one when it comes out. I do think you should give this book a chance! Especially because she is an Indie author and we have to support our Indie Authors who do this more for enjoyment and not just for the money like some main stream authors seem to do.
I liked this book it was a cute, fun read. I wish that there was a little more action and by that I mean I wish there was a little bit more drama it seemed all lovey dovey and no real action. Drake he was such a gentleman, "no need. I was already going this way. I could use the company. It's been a really long and boring drive. We will stop overnight." She looked at me as if I said the world was on fire. "We don't have to stay in the same room, Peaches. We can get separate ones if you feel more comfortable." And when I say gentleman he really is one he's as sweet as pie even when he screws up he owns up to it and admits it, "I am so sorry, Misty. You have no idea how sorry I am. I could have killed him for touching you. When I saw him follow you into the bathroom, I knew something was off. I am glad I go there before something happened." He has fallen hard for his girl, "baby, I can be there in less than ten minutes. I'll hold you all night to help you sleep." Wasn't pleased with the cliffhanger I really thought this was a stand alone book but I guess some authors have a way to surprise you.
Drake and Misty met in the most unconventional of circumstances.
Drake has known of comfort and privilege but Misty lives in a completely different world: She grew up in a halfway home, she lost her parents when she was still a kid and there are a couple of things that she still does not know about her life.
But being thrust in each other's worlds did not prevent them from falling in love. The question is, is their love strong enough to survive?
There's so much more to this story than meets the eye. Generally, there are some glitches and minimal typos but otherwise, it's a good story. The idea is good, the characterization was tastefully done and the plot, though a bit similar to other contemporary romances was good, all the same. This book is a diamond in the rough, but surely, you'd appreciate it.
The UnKnown is a sweet romance between Misty and Drake that literally begins with love at first sight and quickly develops from there. I enjoyed watching these two venture into their futures- Misty as a foster child who has aged out of the system, and Drake as a trust fund kid who's life has taken several unexpected turns. Add in the unknown of falling in love, and not knowing what the future will bring, and you've got a recipe for a really emotional journey. And that is what Ms. Henley has done. The UnKnown is a sweetly emotional love story that left me wanting more.
I really liked this book, it was a sweet love story with a twist. If you're looking for a quick read about true fate and soul mates but with a twist this book is for you. I was conflicted about how to rate this book but once i finished i knew it was a book i would recommend to friends. Sometimes the unknown is scary but if you can stick it out the sun is always brighter after the dark :). Job well done Lara Henley!
OH MY GOSH...there is only one word to describe this book and it's AMAZING! Drake and Misty have gone through so much in their short lives and yet their love is so powerful and withstands many oflife's difficult trials that are thrown their way. The ending left me speechless and wanting more. I can only hope Lara will be speedy when writing book two because I am DYING to continue on with Drake and Misty's journey.
Just finished this book...loved it. What an amazing story of true love and family with a litte heartache thrown in. I live when a book makes you feel every emotion. Could have slapped a few characters. An let's mot forget an unexpected twist you won't see coming...can't.wait to read more from Lara Henley
Whew! This book kept me on the edge of my seat.... great read as are all of Ms. Henley's books... and so far all of them, including this one, have left me wanting to read more! (And I'm not usually a romance reader...but I'm beginning to be thanks to some of these books!)
I was gifted this book from a friend. The writing style is simple, but the story is amazing. Misty pulled at my heart strings and Drake is now my book boyfriend. I enjoyed it and can't wait for book two.
Talk about fate, Kismet, being in the right place at the right time and love at first sight. You will find all of these in this wonderful book. Misty has had a lot of sorrow in her young life. She is forced to leave the foster home she has lived in for the last few years when she ages out. She is sent out into a great big bad world with only $200 to start her adult life. Drake has all of the money he wants or needs and is one of the spoiled rich kids. His friends are the worst, spoiled, rich and very bad brats and the girls are downright spoiled bitches. I want I want I want is their mantra and they usually get. But he goes against everyone in his life to go to college, he graduates with his degree in art. He wants to open his own art gallery!! Then he drives home is his big black Escalade and stops at diner for food. He sees the most beautiful girl and she is talking on the phone to someone about going to Florida. Can it be fate or Kismet? He is headed in her direction. Now if he can only talk her into going with him, his ride home would become so much better. Misty stops in a diner to think, to eat and to call her aunt. She wants to know she can stay with her. While on the phone, in walks a "hottie" ! Will she take him up on his offer of a ride? Is he really going to Sunnydale, Florida? I couldn't put it down till I read every page and even then I wanted more? The trials and tribulations of these 2 go beyond your imagination. I am very excited for the next one in the series and am waiting with bated breath.

**** I received an ARC copy for an honest review ****
First thing I have to say is that this is the first book that I read from this author.
I really enjoy reading this story, I found this to be a beautiful love story about love at first sight, I love the characters and the twist that it has I was not expecting it, I will keep this short since I don't want to give anything away, I love it how it is told from both point of view, and how the characters get to solve their problems right away, this is a quick story to read I read it in one day but that was cause I couldn't put the book down.
The story begins with Misty coming out of the foster care house, once she turned eighteen she had to leave, she pack the few things that she own and she was on her way, walking down the road she end up on a Diner, where she call her aunt Sylvia to let her know that she was heading her way, the only problem was that she did not know how she was gone make it to Florida with the little bit of money that the state gave her, that's when Drake walks in and hear the conversation that she is having on the phone, when Drake was about to leave he ask her is she wanted a ride, Misty did not have any other choice than to accept his help, Misty and Drake new from the first time that they saw each other they had falling in love it was love at first sight.
I really like this book and I cant wait to read the second book. I hope that once you read it that you get to enjoy and love it as much as I did.
Author Lara Henley THANK YOU for introducing me to this great characters and this wonderful book.
Misty has been thru hell for the last 6 yrs of her life. Her parents died when she was 12 and she was sent into foster care because her Aunt Silvia didn't have the means to support her. Finally turning 18 and becoming an adult, the state of Texas boots her out of the system with $150 in her pocket wishing her the best. She heads toward the only family she knows is out there-Aunt Silvia-with the hopes that she will take her in. Knowing that her friend/foster sister is somewhere near her aunt too, she hopes to reconnect and have all her family together. As she is trying to figure out just how she is going to make it to Florida, Misty bumps in to the gorgeous Drake. Drake finds Misty just as irresistible and when he discovers they are both headed to Florida he wants to be her saving grace and get to know her.Is he safe? Is he a killer? Is he gonna steal her heart? These are all things Misty worries about as she accepts the ride that will take her off to The Unknown, off to start her new life.
I really liked this book. It's a YA novel about a girl learning to overcome her past, her pain, and her heartache in the search of a life she had never thought she could have. It's girl meets boy (on side of road), boy falls head-over-heels for girl, girl learns there was more waiting for her in the world than she bargained for. The surprise twist at the end was a shocker and the sneak peak into book 2 eeeeeek! <3 can't wait to see where Misty's life is taking her.
Review of The Unknown (Flawed Series) Written by Lara Henley
Reviewed by Author Roy Murry
Misty and Drake, the main characters in The Unknown, individually tell the reader about their love story. There is nothing unusual about this other than the fact that ‘It’s love at first sight’ in the middle of nowhere going into the direction – disaster.
It is difficult to convey a love story in novel form, because many have tried, including “Love Story.” Ms. Henley attempt gets ‘A Thumbs up’ for its dialogue of the characters who express their emotions and life’s development, leading to a heart breaking ending.
At times you will have a tear in your eyes and at other moments you’ll be asking yourself ‘What are they doing?’ As they say, ‘Kids will be kids,’ and so will young people in what they call love.
Emotions are brought to a level of passion and delusion that few reach and become problematic in the beginning of Misty and Drake’s stories. The ending culminates into unforeseen events that will endear the reader to them, asking what comes next.
Lara Henley’s novel does have a euphoric tone that reaches ecstasy in her character’s dialogue, having the reader expecting a disaster at any moment. The surprise will not be when it comes, but how it happens. This is what makes this novel special.
It’s an easy read using modern technology’s ‘Text messaging’ and cell phones as emotional tools. Ms. Henley has written an in depth novel for young adults.
Review for The Unknown by Lara Henley Witty Wench 3/5 stars Sigh. Where do I begin with this one? This was a terribly difficult book for me to read and rate. I can hear you now. Why Witty? It’s just a book…it can’t be that hard. Well, let me tell you. I got not even an eighth of the way in and I just knew deep in my gut that the author was telling this story from her soul. I could just tell. Maybe it was the way it was written. The way she struggled to tell some scenes, and not others, maybe it was the way she drew the story line out to absolutely achieve that needed catharsis. And for me, I had to take a few days after I read the book to try and decide just how and the hell I was going to rate something like that. I give a low rating it would be like saying, hey you lived a shitty life and you have a shitty life….No, I wasn’t doing that. I decided that I was going to rate strictly on punctuation, presentation, grammar and the like. I do think that the bulk of the action..not sexy sexy action was contained at the last little bit of the book, and that could have really been spread throughout the story more. BUT. IF. This is the author’s true story or a friend’s story, again, I can understand the need to get the entire story penned. I have a love/hate relationship with cliff hangers. I am absolutely looking forward to next book.
I was hooked from the first page and was fully engrossed until the very last!
This book is about Misty and her life and how things that happen in a blink of an eye change the life that has been mapped out for you. After losing her parents she is put into the state system until she is too old and has to make her own way in life.
We follow her journey for the first months of her life outside the system and how the people she encounters on her journey change her life.
She meets her family for the first time in years and she feels like she has come “home”.
She meets Drake Mitchell who is a rich kid who is not following what his parents want him to do. He has his own ideas in life and is not afraid to live them. He also goes through a lot of sadness and problems in his life and we live through these with him too.
I absolutely love Lara Henley’s writing style, she makes the book easy to read and so interesting that you don’t want to put the book down. This is one author to watch out for over the next year!
I give this book 5 stars and cannot wait for the next book in the series!
I just want to say this has got to be one of the best books I have ever read! From the first words on the page I was drawn in that is when you know a book will completely captivate you and this one sure did. Drake and Misty are awe inspiring characters. They make us want to hold out for that one person who we absolutely cannot live without, the one who completes us, who makes us want to be the better versions of ourselves so that we can be the very best people for them. Their relation =ship is by no means all flowers and rainbows like normal relationships it has its ups and downs and they both have obstacles they must overcome to be together and have the lives they want. This book will tug on your heartstrings it will make you laugh and it will make you cry and it will take in instances back to the days where we were all innocent and viewed the world differently. My only complaint and this is more personal than anything to do with the author or the story is that she left me HANGING man talk about your cliffhanger endings I can’t wait for the second book to come out
This is the story of Misty and Drake. Misty has grown up in foster home since her mother died when she was 7. She is now 18 and is being released from the "system". With $100 in her pocket she sets out for Florida to find her Aunt Silvia.
Drake has just graduated college and is heading back home to Florida to start an intern ship at a local Art Gallery. He comes from a very wealthy family.
When they meet at an old diner there is an instant connection. Since they are going to the same town he offers to let her ride with him.
I just love Drake and Misty. Drake is super sweet and not your typical stuck up rich kid. He will do anything to protect Misty.
There were a few times the story seemed a little rushed but overall I really enjoyed the story. The other characters are great too! Lara left us with a hell of a cliffhanger and I can't wait to get my hands on book 2!!
I was give a advance copy from the author for my honest review. Misty has been dealt a rough hand in life. Her beloved parents were killed in a car wreck when she was twelve and her moms twin who was the the closest living relative couldn't take her so she was put into the child welfare system. She has now aged out of the system and is trying to find her way to Florida to her aunts when her path acrosses Drake. Who knew it would be love at first sight for both of them. I loved the story! I feel like it one that hasn't been done over and over before. I feel it moves a little quick for my taste, but it is fiction and a love story. It has a few nice twist and turns that I won't reveal here.....you'll just have to read the book, that I didn't see coming, but I'm looking forward in reading about in book two.
I was given this book in exchange for a honest review! So pardon my bluntness.....Let me start by saying this was a difficult book for me. I found myself pushing to continue on, hoping to god that something would happen. There are points in the book where I believe would have been a good entry for something/anything. But no it was I love you, he loves me, over and over. There seems to be a problem with things being left undone. For instance, if I said my lover gave me a shiner. Then that night I went and seen my boyfriend but he ask nuthing about what happened to my eye. Lol you get the point! I will say however that the last couple of pages seemed very promising! And I can say I won't read this book again, I will read the next one!
This book made me laugh and cry and hope right along with Misty and Drake. It is the story of two people from completely different worlds but end up travelling together. Misty is a strong but sensitive girl who was dealt a bad hand early in life. She knows there has to be happiness in life but doesn’t think she deserves it. She is kicked out of the only place she has called home so she is left sad and desperate. Drake has had every opportunity in life but that doesn’t mean he is happy with what he has until he meets Misty. The two meet and are drawn into the journey that life hand us. This book is a MUST READ. I am looking forward to more of this authors work.
I received a advanced copy from the author in exchange for a honest review. The story started out a little slow and everything seemed predictable. But once you get into the story things start picking up and you start guessing about whats going to happen next and what will be revealed. Misty and Drake are great characters with everyday problems and at times you can relate to what they are going through. This book was a fun read and I can't wait to read book 2!!!!
If you are looking for a sweet love story this book is for you. You have a young couple that meet and have an instant connection. Drake and Misty have completely different past and meet by chance. This story has some unexpected twists and a lot of tender moments. They each have to deal with things in their personal live and go through the trials of a new relationship. Overall, I enjoyed this story and will be reading future books by this author.
I was looking through some of the reviews on this book and got mixed emotions on if I should read it or not. I decided to take a chance and boy I'm glad I did. I could tell that was Ms. Henley's first novel, but I thought it was well written. I don't why this book would get a bad review. It is a breath of fresh air to see two people fall in love and go through there trails and tribulations with them.I love Misty and Drake and can't to read more about them in the next book.
So, so good! I was drawn in immediately to the lives of Drake and Misty, and grew to love them. This book was a nice, easy, quick read, but I didn't feel like it was missing anything like a lot of other shorter books I've read in the past. The cliffhanger left me wanting more, and I can't wait to read more about Misty and Drake.
omg it is amazing read I ended up give my self more than one book hang over I loved this book and it broke heart more than one time and left me on the edge of set.. I can't wait for part two to come out can't wait to see what happens next .. ppl you have to check this book out its so worth the time and love you will share with the characters ...
