Love Me If You Dare

Rate this book
Some things change...

It’s been three years since Kaylee Sawyer has been home—home to the alcoholic mother she can’t handle, home to the painful memories of her sister Ella... and home to the guilt she’s carried for years. About to enter her final year of college, she is determined to come to terms with the mess of her past—and to ignore the guy whose single kiss has been tattooed into her mind forever.

Some things stay the same...

Dylan McKay is still golden haired and dangerous, the flame Kaylee was always afraid to touch for fear of getting burnt. But despite the damage that’s been done, she finds that she still can’t stay away from the one person who accepted her the way she was.

Some things are meant to be.

Kaylee is no longer the innocent girl she once was. Though tragedy ripped them apart before, one look from Dylan brings all of the old feelings rushing back. Torn between her past and her future, she’s not sure if a person can ever truly go home again.

But Dylan doesn’t plan to let her go without a fight.

Recommended for mature readers aged 17+ due to language and sexual content.

Lauren Hawkeye/ Lauren Jameson never imagined that she'd wind up telling stories for a living... though when she looks back, it's easy to see that she's the only one who is surprised. Always "the kid who read all the time", Lauren made up stories about her favorite characters once she'd finished a book... and once spent an entire year narrating her own life internally. No, really. But where she was just plain odd before publication, now she can at least claim to have an artistic temperament.

Lauren lives in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, Canada with her husband, toddler, pit bull and idiot cat, though they do not live in an igloo, nor do they drive a dogsled. In her nonexistent spare time Lauren can be found knitting (her husband claims that her snobby yarn collection is exorbitant), reading anything she can get her hands on, or sweating her way through spin class. She loves to hear from her readers!

Before I begin, I was given a copy of this book to read for an honest review

*MAY CONTAIN MINOR SPOILERS*

First, can I say what a GORGEOUS cover this book has??!! It kind of reminded me of the cover of “Walking Disaster.” Anyways, this book definitely has *THAT* feel to it when you read angsty books or when the hero/heroine goes through a traumatic event and is trying to move on.

“In mythology, the firebird would burst into flames and be reduced to ashes. But then from the ashes he would be born again.”

This symbolic phrase means SO much to Kaylee and Dylan. Both were nursing long-time wounds from losing Ella,

“We had both lost Ella. I had spiraled out of control. Dylan had pulled his shit together.

Oh Kaylee. Such a complex character! I read the first book, which was about Serena and Alex, and from the glimpses of Kaylee, I could just tell there was something she was hiding/running away from. She is angry, confused, and greatly saddened about the circumstances of Ella’s death and has always believed she was partly responsible. There were a couple of times where I didn’t approve of her actions in the book but then again, she was surrounded by this cloud of guilt and I could understand why she did what she did. As a result of Ella’s death, she can’t commit to Joel, her on/off boyfriend, and keeps her longtime feelings for Dylan under wraps. To me, she is a solid 4 star heroine, not a completely naïve girl, but not too uptight and snobbish for my likes.

The character that really made this book shine was Dylan. OH Dylan!!! He was the perfect guy for Kaylee and though he and Ella were closer friends, he always had deep feelings for Kaylee. Throughout the book, he constantly pushes Kaylee to her boundaries, never afraid to challenge her or to get her to open up to him more.

“Just climb, Kaylee. Lodge a hand, foot, wherever you can. Use your arms, your legs. And just climb.

He didn’t think I was going to do it. And the Kaylee he used to know wouldn’t have.

Kaylee never would have been able to get away from the guilt, the pain, without Dylan there to help her. Everytime she ran or pushed him away, he was always around the corner, waiting for her. The side characters are great too! Serena and Maddy are the best girlfriends you could ever ask for and they are such loyal people! Though Nick wasn’t formally introduced in the book, we do get a couple of scenes with Dylan’s other friend, Jax, and he was a real sweetheart too!

Even though this book was a quick read for me, we really see some character development and some sassy, humorous scenes. The ending was a bit rushed but it was still a nice transition to Dylan and Kaylee’s HEA, which was well-deserved after all the emotional drama they went through. What I’m really interested now is Jax’s story with Nick and Kayla. From the little excerpt I read, it sounds pretty HOT!!!

Loved it.

LOOOOOOOVED it.

Oh man. The growth of the author between book one and book two blows my mind. Blows it. I can totally tell the author hit her stride with this book. Damn it...Where's my 1/2 star? Screw this...I'm upping it just for that growth.

I loved Kaylee in book one. You could see that she had problems and watching her come home was just all kinds of delicious dark and twisty. Kaylee's struggle with her identity of the good girl she used to be, the party persona she adopted and university and then the whole tangled mess it becomes when she comes home was brilliant. She's lost. And she knows it. Yes, we saw Serena & Maddy from book one but they didn't really factor into this. Where the magical relationships were in this book was the "kids" (yeah...my age is showing) she grew up with.

And then we have Dylan McKay (nooo....not 90210 Dylan McKay (yes...my age is showing again.)) the boy she could never quite forget and is why it never clicked with her university boyfriend. The bad boy...who isn't a bad boy anymore. He's the opposite of Kaylee. The same heartache that sent her careening is what gave him focus, it inspired him to change his life. Kaylee is lost and Dylan is found. And their chemistry is off the charts.

I can't wait for more of this series. I'm a fan. And I'm not so patiently waiting for the next one.

Courtesy of the previous book in this series I've now become a fan of New Adult reads and was greatly anticipating Love Me If You Dare. The first book in the Safe Havens series introduced us to a group of young women dealing with childhood issues as they go forward into adulthood amidst intense emotions. The emotions are running just as high this time around with grief, loss, and guilt being just a few of the emotions Kaylee carries with her as she returns home for a visit after being absent for years. She's not the same girl she once was and these changes aren't necessarily for the better no matter how hard she tries to convince herself and others. The only thing that hasn't changed is her affection for bad boy Dylan. Growing up she was the good girl, the daughter who kept the family going, the girl who had her whole life planned out and never deviated from that path. The one night she decides to walk on the wild side by going out with Dylan ends in tragedy and an event that changes everyone's futures.

Kaylee's good girl days are long behind her as she's now living for the moment, partying and meandering through life just like her sister once did. Her friends at school think this is the real Kaylee but going home shows her the truth about herself and why she's lost sight of her goals. It also reacquaints her with Dylan as they slowly start a relationship that's burdened with misunderstandings. Kaylee's strong-willed but has been hiding from the truth, truths that Dylan and her mother force her to see. She thought her actions were honoring the one she lost but it's actually herself that got lost. As a child she thought she could fix everything but being an adult shows her that you can't control others. She can only control herself but slowly realizes that she's out of control and taking on traits that she's always been critical of. These eye-opening revelations lead to a wiser Kaylee who's finally going to live her own life as we head towards a HEA that hints at happiness but leaves her and Dylan still at the cusp of a relationship.

Dylan grew up on the edge and found Kaylee's sister Ella the perfect partying partner but felt nothing romantic for her. Those feelings he reserved for the quiet and studious Kaylee who he finally made a move on one night that ended in tragedy. That moment irrevocably changed him and put him on a straight and narrow path where he's now a serious hardworking man who's still super sexy and makes women melt with a smile. He still senses the sexual tension between him and Kaylee and wants to see where things can now go even though she still feels he belongs to Ella. His charm soon wins her over as their burgeoning relationship forces Kaylee to let go of unnecessary guilt and take back some of the traits that he admired in her as teens. Only when they let out years of mutual grief can they finally let go of the past and move forward together.

Along with main characters who put each other, and us readers, through the wringer through misguided guilt and non-stop sexual tension comes a colorful cast of small town secondary characters. The most notable being Jax whose sexual orientation is very much left in doubt. His friendship is definitely NOT in doubt though as he's the catalyst for bringing Dylan and Kaylee back together. Jax is charming and loyal and his love life is about to become complicated and I'm definitely left breathless waiting for his story to be told. While not as profoundly heartbreaking as the previous installment in the Safe Haven series I still found myself fully immersed in Kaylee and Dylan's heartache. Ms. Laurens has created yet another satisfying story that keeps me invested in this series and the New Adult genre.

This type of books – you just have to judge it by the cover. Because if you think, the cover is HOT and Sizzling – wait till you read it. (You can totally read this even if you haven’t read the first book in the series, because this can act as a stand-alone!)

I love it because it was a short read, and I finished it in one sitting right after my 16-hour duty. I needed to finish it, and I did. Wow! I must say, I totally have to read the series immediately.

Dylan and Kaylee suffered the same loss when Kaylee’s twin, Ella died. The first few chapters had me asking – what the heck is going on here? How did Ella die? How it is Kaylees fault? Why is he blaming her? IT HAD ME GUESSING, and TURNING THE PAGES eagerly to get my answers!!!

She left town, running away from everything, including the only man who had made her heart beat so fast. But now she’s back for the summer – a new her. She was not the same girl who have fled town, she dressed, talked and acted almost like Ella. It was like she was trying to live for her twin. It was sad. I thought it was guilt that propelled her to lose her personality. But there was more to it than meets the eye. I find it also sad that she can’t commit herself to Joel – whom I think is a great guy. He’s her on-off boyfriend who is always there for her. How can she give someone else her heart when she already gave it years ago??

Change is the only permanent thing in the world, or in this book. When Kaylee came back, she didn’t expect to see a completely different Dylan. He quit school, got himself a job, a truck and a dog. Although he had been best friends with Ella, and was almost the same as her, Dylan was the perfect man for Kaylee. Now, if she could only realize this, and FINALLY ASK HIM about his and Ella’s relationship. Sometimes, assuming things leads to total unhappiness. I love that he’s determined to have Kaylee this time, pushing her to her limits and trying for her to talk to him more. I totally adore the climbing scene.

They needed both to surpass the guilt and pain from the loss. No matter how hard Kaylee tried to get rid of Dylan, he never falters. (Yay for him!) He stayed right there, waiting for her, like he did for a couple of years when she ran away. I like the secondary characters too, how her friends Serena and Maddy came into town, thinking that she needed rescue. They never judged, and stayed with her for a while. Jax is amazing too - and well, he has a few surprises of his own. (Total OMG!)

It was a short, quick read that had me smiling and almost near-tears. The pages of the book where just enough to close every door that were opened. I enjoyed how Dylan and Kaylee’s character developed, and how they finally overcome their guilt and the pain of their loss. Now, what I’m really looking forward to is Jax’s story. Ahem. The teaser at the end of the book is just not enough!!!

Kaylee struggles with the demons of her past, her absentee father, helping her alcoholic mom, finding a summer job, keeping food on the table for her and her mom, keeping her old life apart from her new one, and keeping a certain boy who still holds her heart at a safe distance. Just when she thought her life couldn't get more complicated as it is, her two worlds collide and threatens everything she tried to hide and the life she built for herself. As the characters struggle with inner turmoil full of guilt, blame, and heartache they still carry from the past, as a reader you can really feel how deeply it hit them. Even after all these years, the burdens of the past still has a control over Kaylee. Kaylee coped by staying as far away from home as possible while hiding behind a facade polar opposite of her own. Adopting the wild party lifestyle her sister once lived, she comes to realize that she's been trying to keep a part of her sister alive, and the alcoholic tendencies they share must run in the family. But the one guy who shouldn't be able to see past the facade, can see right down to her heart and soul.

The former bad boy and crush, Dylan McKay -- the one she thought she couldn't have. Dylan becomes an obstacle of his own in Kaylee's life while she tries to figure out his motives, and keep him at arms length when he tries to persue her. As Kaylee tries to figure out if he's trying to reconnect with her sister vicariously through her now that her personality is identical to her late sisters, he reveals that the feelings between them are mutual. Staying away from him doesn't come easy for her because he is still wrapped around her heart after all these years. Should she dare to let him in knowing the risk of potential heartbreak, and guilt for taking the guy who belonged to her sister? I keep encouraging her to go for what her heart desires.

Author Kate Laurens does a great job of conveying feelings with her writing and use of imagery to help readers feel what the characters feel, and to understand them as well. As the characters comes to terms with their roles in the death of her sister, they learn to let go of guilt and blame, and find peace and love. With a surprising help from usually incoherent mom, and meddling best friend, Jax. Although the HEA (happily ever after) is a bit short and fast-paced, the story in it's entirety is anything but. The pace and flow was easily to follow each step the characters take throughout the story. The epilogue, short as it is, hints at where Kaylee and Dylan go in their life together. Spoiler alert for any Kaylee/Joel shippers out there. This story teaches us that the past can rear it's ugly head, but you can overcome it.

I was given a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This was a quick read for me; it took me a few scattered hours this afternoon to finish. I haven't read the first book in the series, to be honest I didn't know there was one at first. But I enjoyed going into it blindly. I have no idea how much of this story is also in the first book, but reading this as a stand alone created mystery for me.

The MC, Kaylee, reluctantly returns to her home town for the first time in 3 years. She changed dramatically in those three years away at college. Long gone is the shy girl who had a plan and avoided trouble at all costs. That girl died along with her twin, Ella.

Fish Lake, Oregon was one of those small towns where time stood still. You could come back 30 years later and everything would still be the same. Everyone knew everyone else's business, which was another reason Kaylee dreaded coming home. Another reason was Dylan.

Oh Dylan. Sexy bad boy Dylan. He and Ella had been best friends and pretty much joined at the hip. Kaylee and Ella were polar opposites so she knew he'd want nothing to do with her. But that never stopped her heart from wanting him.

Upon her return, her and Dylan share a few awkward conversations. They are really the only ones who knew the real story of what happened with Ella and they both have their own demons to fight when it comes to the "incedent".

My Thoughts...

As I said before, I really liked the mystery surrounding Kaylee and Dylan, Dylan and Ella, and the day that changed everything.
I also really enjoyed that this wasn't your typical happy love story. It has pain and anger and regret with a hefty spoonful of lust thrown in.
I loved seeing how Kaylee changed in response to what happened and how her character evolved as she found herself. The same goes for sexy Dylan, of course :)

Kaylee's home life was heartbreaking to read, but honest and real at the same time.

As for Jax, I KNEW IT!! lol.

The writing was decently solid. Definitely a breath of fresh air in comparison to some of my recent read/reviews I've done but that's beside the point.

Overall, I really don't have anything bad to say other than I hope the next in the series has some future glimpses of how Kaylee and Dylan are doing. I know it's mostly about Jax, but I imagine the author will throw us a bone ;)

I got this as part of the 7-book bundle, Love in Disguise.

Kaylee and Dylan went on one date, three years ago. That night, her sister killed herself. Kaylee and Dylan both blamed themselves for her death. Ella (Kaylee's sister) was troubled. Dylan was Ella's best friend. Dylan was the only guy who ever really made Kaylee's blood pump. After Ella dies, Kaylee goes to college across the country in an effort to escape. She comes back the summer before her senior year and Kaylee and Dylan rekindle the brief romance they had before she left.

This story was just OK for me because it drove me crazy more than it made me happy. There was SO MUCH angst. Angst can definitely be a good thing for a story, because it adds a degree of emotion to it. However, angst can get REALLY annoying when it's really just someone dwelling and throwing themselves undeserved pity parties. It took FOREVER for the details of Ella's death to come out. Telling you in the review that it was a suicide is NOT a spoiler since it doesn't make a bit of difference, really, to the story itself. That's why it was INCREDIBLY annoying that Kaylee was constantly referring to Ella's death (the story is written from Kaylee's POV), saying it was her fault Ella died, but didn't give ANY details about the death so the reader could decide whether any fault or blame should be laid at Kaylee's feet.

I don't know, it didn't really sound like Kaylee's childhood and life was all that bad once you finally got some details about her upbringing, but until you find out those details, you'd think she had a pretty troubled life. She just ended up coming off as whiny to me and that put a major damper on the story.

I really liked Dylan. He was the town badboy and he reformed his life after Ella's death. He was extremely likable and, quite frankly, I didn't understand what he saw in the whiny, wishy-washy Kaylee.

I did enjoy them actually coming together and getting to know each other and FINALLY talking about the night Ella died, but I wish it had happened ALOT sooner. This story wasn't a total flop, but it could've been a lot better.

When I read (and reviewed) the first book of this series, Love Me For Me, I fell in love with the characters, the stories and I really connected with them. So when the second book was up for review, I jumped at the chance to read it. Sadly, I have to say I was a bit disappointed by it. Not because it is a bad book, but because I just didn’t connect as deeply with these characters as the ones before.

I’ve started this review a few times, and I find myself more summarizing the book than talking about what I liked and didn’t like about it. I dislike reviewers who simply summarize the book, because it seems pointless.

So let me try this one more time:

I think the reason that I didn’t connect as well with the characters in this book is that Kaylee is a party girl — or has become one. She used to be a bookworm and wallflower, but then again, she also used to have a sister. I think I would have understood Kaylee better before she turned into the party girl. I have two brothers. I’m not really a risk taker, and Dylan is. He brings Kaylee into that world as well to try to connect with her. After she left for college, both of them changed in drastic ways.

I love that Dylan has changed for the better. I love the inclusion of a phoenix tattoo — the symbolism.

I did like this book, but not as much as I did her first in the series. I did purchase the small intro novella, Love Me Twice, which I was frustrated to find out that the full book, Love Me Again, isn’t out yet and I can’t find a set date for it. I will continue to look for new books by Kate Laurens as she is a very good writer, but with this book it’s one of those “it’s-not-you-it’s-me” situations where I just couldn’t connect. Hopefully others will.

… Now I’m going to go back and re-read Love Me For Me.

I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review, and I’m so glad I did. This was a great story about Kaylee Sawyer going home for the first time in 3 years, and finding the one guy she can’t seem to get out of her head. As the story progresses you learn about Kaylee and Dylan’s past, her twin sister, and why for so many years she has not gone home.

This story was heartbreaking and lovely all at once. Kaylee has tried so hard to keep a little bit of her sister with her, and has, in some peoples eyes, changed completely. She doesn’t let anyone get close, she’s a party girl instead of the book worm she left behind. When she runs into Dylan the first day back, she’s fighting an internal struggle, and things get interesting.

You could definitely relate to these characters, Kaylee is very strong and Dylan is trying to move forward with his life and become a better person. As you move through the book you hings aren’t easily forgotten, people change, and sometimes the best things in life are standing right in front of you. Even with tragedy in the past of the main characters, you see they are struggling with the same things all of us did at that age, trying to figure out who we are and what we want.

Author Kate Laurens wrote an amazing book, and I really enjoyed it (Stayed up till 2am to finish it!) Love Me If You Dare is the second in the Safe Haven series, but can be read as a stand alone. I will be picking up the rest of the series, because I can’t wait to read the stories of the other members of this town! This book was a good weekend read and I think you should all add it to your TBR list if you haven’t picked it up already.

I always find it odd that when I read, it seems that if I read one archaeological thriller, the next book is a similar read. The book last read before Love Me If You Dare was about teen suicide. Laurens book is a new adult romance story about those who lived past the suicide of a teen, Kaylee Sawyer's twin, Ella had died due to drugs and depression. Her best friend, Dylan and her twin Kaylee each faced and dealt differently with her suicide. Kaylee went off to college and stayed away for thee years, determined to let her sister live on through her. Dylan dealt with his demons and straightened up his wild, bad boy reputation, becoming a responsible adult. But when Kaylee comes home for the summer, both are in for the ride of their lives, revisiting the past and actually sharing one anothers' misunderstood responses.

I loved the story. The premise of Ella's death was revealed in snippets throughout the book and not given all at once. I liked that as it held your interest in wanting to know what had happened. Kaylee had assumed that Dylan and her sister had more in common that being best friends...were they also lovers? Did Dylan see Ella when he looked at Kaylee? These were questions she needed answered. Laurens handled the story content with compassion and allowed the characters to mature as their relationship went to new heights.

It was very interesting and had a positive ending. I also loved the romance. An underlying message to the reader.....learn to communicate with those you love. Be honest and open rather than sweeping things under the rug and ignoring them. Not talking promotes misunderstandings and hurt that is hard to heal, although possible to do. A very good read indeed and short enough to read in a day!!

I really liked the premise of this book. Kaylee Sawyer returns home the summer before her senior year and is forced to not only face her alcoholic mother, but also the death of her sister. I liked how Kaylee became a mixture of her sister and her old self as she dealt (or not really dealt) with her sister being gone. It wasn't necessarily the healthiest way to go about living her life, but she was doing the best she could as she dealt with what she felt were her actions that sent her sister over the edge.

But then she comes home and sees her sister's best friend and the guy she always had a huge crush on...Dylan McKay. Yep. Dylan freaking McKay.

For those of us that grew up watching the original Beverly Hills, 90210, Dylan McKay was the ulimate bad boy. Broody, rich, with that James Dean hair. So to have the male lead in this book have his name, it felt wrong. This Dylan McKay turned his life around after his best friend died. He stopped his partying ways, becoming a smoke jumper, buying a house, adopting a dog and becoming a man who can be depended upon and willing to do what he needs to for the people he loves. This Dylan was the ultimate alpha with the squishy center. But in my mind, every time his name was mentioned, Luke Perry would pop into my head...which was a complete distraction.

Dylan and Kaylee have a lot of issues to work through, but Dylan manages to have Kaylee face what happened with her sister, her relationship with her mother and realize that she doesn't have to be anyone but herself.

Name of the male character aside, this was an entertaining read. Kaylee and Dylan kept readers interested and made us wish for their happily ever after. The ending was a bit abrupt, but ultimately readers got what they were looking for.

Though Love Me If You Dare is book #2 in the Safe Haven series, it can be read as a standalone. I just want to make that clear in case you have not read the first book but you are interested in this one. Some of the characters cross books, but only as background characters, and you definitely would not feel like you were missing part of the story by reading them out of order.

As for Love Me If You Dare, I think I liked this story even better than the first. I loved Kaylee. She was hurting so much but did everything in her power to hide it. She went to college away from home for the purpose of having a fresh start – a place where no one knew her or her past. When she finally went back home for her first summer visit three years later, she had to try to mesh who she had been with who she had become as well as face her ghosts.

Dylan, the sexy bad boy (what story is complete without one?), was the one person Kaylee did not want to see, but was dying to see. Dylan shared the same ghosts as Kaylee, and together they had to fight through them – though it is much easier said than done.

I also loved the story line – it was different and heartbreaking, but something that could happen in real life. I loved Kaylee and Dylan together. The only thing that would have made this story even better was if there would have been more of it. At only 182 pages, this book was relatively short. I would have loved to see more of the story played out rather than faded out or skipped over. In the end, though, it was a great read.

The Book

This is the second book in the Safe Haven series. It can be read as a stand alone novel.
It's been three years since Kaylee Sawyer has been home - to the alcoholic mother she can't handle, painful memories of her sister Ella and the guilt she's carried for years.
About to enter her final year of college, she is determined to come to terms with the mess of her past - and to ignore the guy whose single kiss has been tattooed into her mind forever.

Dylan McKay is still golden haired and dangerous, the flame Kaylee was always afraid to touch for fear of getting burnt. But despite the damage that's been done, she finds that she still can't stay away from the one person who accepted her the way she was.

My Opinion
This is a good, quick and easy read.

The book can actually be a stand alone because it makes sense and there are no gaping holes in the storyline. I didn't even know it wasn't a stand alone until I finished. It actually makes for a bit of a mystery/suspense if you haven't read the first book.

There are few characters and they are relatable. The story is easy to follow.

For mature readers. 17+

This story was intense, emotional, and beautiful. Kaylee arrived home for the summer, a place she hasn't been in 3 years. Not much has changed, except of course for Dylan McKay. Even though he has changed the connection she always felt was still there. The are some serious emotional obstacles that they have to fight through and boy is it worth it to read their story. Her past is so pained and she is just trying to fight through it. The struggle she faces is so real and the push and pull of the main couple did not feel forced or even like it took to long to get there. I felt satisfied with the way it ended and how it got there. I was happy for the way things worked out and I become emotionally invested in the characters, which should be the goal for all authors. This story has all the elements I love, damaged girl, bad boy, hot and steamy chemistry, and the push and pull of the need to be together versus what they think they want. This was definitely a winner.

Kaylee has a ruff couple of months a head as she needs to face her alcoholic Mother and go back home to the painful memories of her sister Ella and the guilt she’s carried for three years. Not a lot is changed in this period here flame Dylan McKay is still golden haired and dangerous and still hangs around town.

Dylan has changes his life for the better no more working in the garage with his best friend Jax but a job as firefighter. But he has no intention to let Kaylee walk out his life again.

Out of the blue her ex boyfriend Joel arrives in town, will she go back with him or has Dylan won her heart?

I loved this story and I can't wait for "Love me twice"

Love Me If You Dare was a great NA romance that truly embodied what I think of as NA. Kaylee truly did come into herself throughout the book. She learned more about herself and how she fit into her own world. The romance between her and Dylan was anything but easy and that's what makes it such a great read. I can't stand when everything just falls into place. With Love Me If You Dare the characters struggle and fight and love like a real couple. There aren't any lines that you read and think no real man would say that. Dylan is well written and a perfect match for Kaylee.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Love Me If You Dare is a coming of age story. Kaylee and Dylan were torn apart by the tragic death of Kaylee's sister. Kaylee ran away to college. Three years later she returns to her home town. Throughout the book we see Dylan and Kaylee grow and comes to terms with what happened to Kaylee's sister and their relationship.
Love Me If You Dare is the second book in the Safe Haven series but it can be read as a standalone. Overall it was good read and I would recommend it.

The second book in the Safe Haven series is an emotionally charged love story of two lovers torn apart by tragedy.

Kaylee and Dylan must confront their past and come terms with the guilt they feel for a past tragedy before they can have a future.

The author conveys the drama and emotions with a vividness that has the reader emotionally engaged in the story as well drawn to the characters. The plot flows smoothly between each intriguing moment of emotional growth and acceptance that the reader can connect to.

I didn’t read the first book in the series, but reading this as a standalone novel was perfect the way it was. You don’t have to read the first one, but it does give you a little bit of a back-story for another one of the minor characters in this story. Coming back to a hometown that she hasn’t seen for 3 years was hard enough, we follow the story of Kaylee Armstrong, and follow along her adventure as she faces some awful painful hurts from her past. If you are a fan of Lauren Hawkeye, this book is a definite must-read, as she takes you on an emotional, heartfelt journey with a HEA!!!

I can honestly say that I was not expecting this book to be so deep, for lack of a better word. The issues Kaylee and Dylan are dealing with are heart-wrenching and deep -- deeper than I thought they would be going in.

I liked the book. I liked the growth of the characters. It slowed a bit in the middle however it never made me stop reading. I was stunned at how much this book made me reach inside myself to deal with Kaylee's and Dylan's issues. All I can say is wow.

Looking forward to revisiting Safe Haven!

I had a double-take moment when I read the name of the hero, Dylan McKay. Maybe I'm showing my age... so I did have Luke Perry pictured in my head while I was reading this. And that's not a bad thing :)

Enjoyed this book quite a lot, and I'll definitely be checking out the others in the series. It wasn't a super long read, but just about perfect for a night in. Now, if only I had my own Dylan McKay ;)

"My heart stuttered when he ran a finger over lips that were swollen from that onslaught of a kiss. I could see in his eyes that the kiss had affected him, confused him, just as much as it had me."

The perfect, tragic, love story, plus the steamy actions leaves for one happy reader! I would say this book rates as one of the top on my list. I can see Kate Laurens becoming one of my favorite authors.

Loved this.

I'm not a fan of first person, preferring third person but Kate Laurens made it work.

Kaylee is a wonderful heroine. Unsure of herself, dealing with an alcoholic mother and the death of her sister..she comes home to deal with her past and it takes the shape of Dylan McKay.

The book was delicious, the characters were delicious despite its first person flaw. It's definitely a must read and must buy.

Book 2 of this series and I loved it!!!! Kaylee intrigued me from the previous book so I wanted to hear about her past. She carried such misguided guilt and believed she was to blame for her twin sisters death. She believed the man she loved for years and her sisters best friend felt the same way. Two souls fighting through grief to move on and explore their feelings. Just a great story. I'm going to get the third book to see what happens next.
