Strong, firm character does not develop automatically. This book assists families in setting and achieving the goals necessary for developing eight essential character integrity, faith, a teachable spirit, a servant's heart, self-discipline, joy, compassion, and courage. With refreshing honesty, John and Susan Yates share how parents and children can grow together in these qualities.
I just couldn't get into this book despite trying. It seemed far to "preachy" for me and didn't seem to offer very concrete ways to apply the ideas for teaching kids character. I quit reading when I encountered a section that had a couple references to only socializing with those that have the same beliefs. I believe everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and differing beliefs does not mean I should exclude someone.
A good read with great advice. I didn’t read too many new ideas, but always lots of things that I needed to be reminded of. A great read for parents and I’m sure I’ll need to reread again soon!
It took me awhile to get through this all because it's hard for me to find free time to read but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I'm looking forward to applying these principles in my own household. Everything was explained very easily.
