Batter up! It’s 1919 and baseball is in trouble! All across the country, people are throwing down their bats, and giving up America’s national pastime. It’s up to Babe Ruth to win back fans and save baseball! Can he do it, or will he strike out?
I loved this book! The Yankees are my favorite team! This was an easy read, step 3. The book told a great history about Babe Ruth. He saved baseball! The illustrations went right with the story. I even had chills at the end of the book, that is how good the story was. I would recommend this book to any child, even adult that loves baseball or is interested in baseball. With the history of an amazing Legend in the baseball history, and how he was able to save baseball single handed.
This was an interesting true story about how Babe Ruth got people to become baseball fans after the Chicago Black Sox scandal. I think the boys at my school will enjoy reading this.
I really like this book for beginning chapter book readers and for engaging readers who are interested in sports or historical figures. This book tells the story about Babe Ruth's baseball career and how he saved baseball after a cheating scandal turned most Americans away from the sport. In this book I learned Babe Ruth's real name, the team he started playing for, and about how he traded teams and began to build up a record for home runs. I also learned about how Babe Ruth was a symbol in baseball for honesty and strong leadership. Babe Ruth cared about the fans and made it a point to connect with young fans who came to meet him.
This is a level 3 historical story about Babe Ruth. Babe Ruth hit many home runs during his career. He not only was one of the best baseball players in history but he also saved baseball from a scandal. I love how the book shows that Babe was a big guy. In real life he was 6'2" and weighed about 215 pounds. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes baseball or who wants to learn more about Babe Ruth. This book also has great illustrations by Richard Walz.
Babe Ruth Saves Baseball! This was great book for me, as I am 21 years old. Gives a great life story of Babe and what he went through to be an all-star baseball player. So much information about him and what all he did in his lifetime. This was a level 3 easy read. Also some great vocabulary words to incorporate into a classroom setting. Some words like collect, crowded, governor, and stadium. I also found a read aloud online and listened to the book that way!
The story is based around Babe Ruth and his rise to fame during a tough time for baseball. Teams were cheating and baseball was losing ground. The Babe came through and started hitting massive homeruns as well as playing to the crowd to create excitement. He became a fan favorite.
Son (age 6) says... "I like the book because there is a lot of baseball and because Babe Ruth hit the first home run in Yankee Stadium and when he hit it there was a big 'WHACK!' and I read it loud."
Mom says... This book encouraged my son to read aloud with lots and lots of expression in his voice. He was excited by the story, which presented many facts about Babe Ruth and the history of baseball that he didn't know before. Very accessible for his age (6 yrs). Score!
My special needs grown son and I both enjoyed this book as I read it out loud for him. I've read several baseball books the last month or so and many on Babe Ruth. Although this book left out much on the Babe, this one was a good 'starter' for children about him. And it hit on a few nice things that others hadn't like way that he 'saved' baseball...and about 'the house that Ruth built" This is a nice book in general even if you may or may not like Baseball.
This is the first book that my second grade brother fell in love with. He usually has a pretty terrible view of reading, but I think this book put a dent in his "I hate reading shield". I am a pretty big sports fan and I actually learned a few things about The Babe in this one.
