After spending twenty years in professional theater as a costume designer, with a few of those years also spent as a college instructor, Laura abandoned the nomadic lifestyle to sit in a comfy office chair at a second hand oak desk and write. The result? Romance novels! Her favorite thing ever since she was, oh, about twelve. She writes contemporary, light novels and enjoys creating quirky characters and funny, sexy dialogue. Still, the love story is the focus and Laura has a huge soft spot for a sappy, happy ending.

Laura lives in North Carolina with her husband (true love is real!) and her adorable, high energy four year old son who is currently obsessed with How to Train Your Dragon. And that's cool, because she trains her own little dragon every single day. For escape, she flits around on social media, so come say hi!

Place(s) Traveled To: New York, New York

First Line(s): When Virginia Fulton lifted her Jackie O sunglasses, she realized that, although she'd had a lot of weird days in her life, this one was the winner of a chicken dinner.

Virginia by Laura Simcox is the second book in her Various States of Undress series and is told from the middle Fulton sister, Virginia. Much like her sister, Carolina (my review), Virginia is at a crossroads in her life. She's the daughter of the President and is constantly stalked by the paparazzi in New York City. She's got a reputation of being a party girl but that's not all that she wants to be known for and so she seeks out CEO Dexter Cameron to make a business proposition.  Only the Dexter she meets isn't the one she was expecting to and the business deal that she becomes involved in leads her in an unexpected direction. Virginia and Dex find themselves both with something to prove and together they work to bring back to life the flagship store that began the Cameron family empire.

As with CarolinaVirginia is a quick read and while overall the story flowed a little better there were still lots of awkward dialogue moments. There also seemed to be some continuity issues and a few other things that just didn't seem to mesh up. Like a trailer that was described as windowless only to have a paparazzi take pictures from outside and selling them to the press. Which then gets Virginia labeled as a drama queen when that couldn't have been farther from the truth. And as with most contemporary romances, Virginia, suffered from some drama but there was no pointless breakup....so yay win!! And I'm so glad that the drama didn't revolve around lack of communication but it did suffer from a lack of logic so it was just a step up.

Virginia Quote

Virginia is a good brain candy read and I did enjoy this story a lot more than Carolina's. I found Virginia to be much more genuine and the story as a whole to be more realistic. This whole story just flowed better and I liked the secondary characters as well. Or at least, I liked most of them. I could have done without Dex's sister and his grandfather wasn't the best either. But I did really enjoy Dex and Virginia's story. I liked their chemistry and I was invested in their happily ever after.

One thing missing from this serious is a lack of connection to the other books or at least there wasn't much overlap with Carolina and this book. The main characters are all sisters but they all lead separate lives and so each of the books can easily be read independently of the others. Its an enjoyable series but not one that I'd rush out to read though I am looking forward to reading Georiga's story in the near future.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be the daughter of the President? Well, then the VARIOUS STATES OF UNDRESS Series is a MUST-READ for you!!

Always a big fan of the "Party-Girl" turns Professional story line, because I love the growth we get to see throughout the book, especially when we get a hunk like Dexter in the process. (Is it something about the name Dexter that I love? One of SEP secondary characters is a Dexter and I think I have loved that name ever since).

One Part Sweet, One Part Emotional and a Whole Lotta Fun! I have so far truly enjoyed both the first (Carolina) and second (Virginia) books of the VARIOUS STATES OF UNDRESS Series, and I highly recommend grabbing a copy of each today (Only $1.99).

Unfortunately, I didn't like this installment in the Various States of Undress series as much as I enjoyed Carolina. Where Carolina ended too quickly, I felt Virginia and Dex's story dragged on. I was also distracted by the editing - there were quite a lot of mistakes in this book and it would jar me out of the scene. I will read Georgia's story.

I wasn't engaged by the premise, characterisation, relationship development or plot. DNF.
