I didn't expect to like this volume a lot

I know, I already dropped this series last year because Shusei is a fricken sickening scumbag, but I can't ignore a kindle unlimited offer, so here I am again. AND!! I didn't expect that I would actually like this volume a lot—like, a lot-a lot. Like, it was a super quick read, like I just started a few minutes ago or so, I think. Time is fast when you enjoy things, that's why I know this volume's better than the previous ones.

Okay, the ending with Shusei teasing Aoi with a back kiss after the intercourse prohibition is a douche move, but to hell with that, I enjoyed this one thinking they'd actually break up after getting caught by Aoi's father. I think I viewed this volume as something better than the others because here lies the particular presence of "responsible adults" [I've been trying to find since the kids are pretty loose] that will bring them back to reality. Shusei deserved the slaps and kicks from the old man.

I was kinda teary-eyed, though, when Aoi proved how much she's in love with Shusei, that's a very touching scene!! Overall, I know I'm a little bit too harsh on Shusei, like, in classic shojo mangas, there are so many Shusei archetypes deserving a few more punches from the big guy, but I don't know, maybe it's a me problem and I just don't approve of him breathing.

Now, it's time to play *The Waiting Game* as far as this series goes, since the other English volumes have not been released, yet. I don't see myself reading the scanslations, since there are so many other licensed manga series that I can read during this waiting period.

3-3.5 stars. I didn't like the dad part. It felt so contrived and forced to prolong this series. It had felt pretty fast and evenly paced until the last couple of volumes. I felt impatient. Sad for me that it has better art and is written better than many manga I've read and enjoyed. This one just hit the wrong buttons. I already was on board with some of the problematic elements but to have almost every male relative and person be contolling or a dick to slow the pacing of the story just teed me off. This is close to two years after I read this. I had the next 2 volumes and never picked them up, just getting a bad taste in my mouth. Again, I've loved or at least enjoyed more problematic and less held together (if held together at all) mangas. This just hit a personal "yuck" for me. Donated the series over the summer since I hadn't picked up the next book in over 1.5 years.

I mean some people like the father bit. Some people put Dumbledore on a pedestal. Just not me.

3.5 stars.

I have a few issues with the whole lifestyle of manga stories. I don't get some of it. I don't agree with some bits and some bits are quite cute. Therefore I'm giving this one 3.5 stars. The end bit perked it up a bit for me but other than that I was a bit "meh".

I will be continuing the series though.

The only reason I'm giving this a 3 stars and continuing this series is for poor Aoi. I felt so proud of her to admit that she finally has someone that she's in love with, she wants to protect and all that. Aoi seems like the only one protective of their relationship though, other than the "necessary punch" that Shusei threw the goons and showed concern for her. That's one, literally one thing that Shusei did right and re-ignited my hope for him to be a better partner to Aoi. Still super weird how her father is okay with and allowed Aoi, a highschooler to live with a boy. I don't know how I feel about Shusei kinda being an annoying idiot and teasing Aoi despite that and emphasizing "how hard it will be" in the long run, when he's having self control issues and is being a bit sour about it. If anything, Aoi's father was right to be wary of Shusei and his character, and I kinda wish the mangaka left ONE person that was against their relationship; I wish her father hadn't changed his stance, because I agreed with him: Shusei is a red flag in many ways and shouldn't be allowed to live with and take advantage of Aoi. Though, I am appreciative of the moments where he just takes it slow and teases her with no ulterior motive, and they do normal and simple things together like embracing each other and looking over the cars on the bridge. Aoi wasn't comfortable kissing in a public place though, he should have respected that.

Done with this series for a little while, as the English translations have not yet caught up with the Japanese publications. Pretty excited about this, actually, because I'd like to turn my attention to things that are a bit more intellectually stimulating. That need-to-know feeling, even though this series is kind of stupid, is still there, though, so I'll likely continue once the English versions are published.

I like this very silly series enough to read multiple volumes available in English in three days. While the premise can be absurd and it often is overly exaggerated, it’s funny and the main two characters are interesting.

Did 🙂 the pacing, plotting, and characterisation all just dramatically improve 🙂🙂? I refuse to believe this was authored by the same person who wrote vol 2 and 3 🙃🙃
