Rather than simply surveying the field of kinesiology, this text interprets the field and argues that kinesiologists use a variety of types of knowledge. Following chapters on basic terms, definitions, and traditional descriptions of the professions, the authors present discussion of the types of knowledge most frequently used; understanding the principles through reasoning and observation; using science to investigate movement; expanding awareness of the moving, lived experience; and experiencing the meanings behind the stories that define the field to its members.
