Microsoft Flight Simulator X For Pilots: Real World Training

Rate this book
Get ready to take flight as two certified flight instructors guide you through the pilot ratings as it is done in the real world, starting with Sport Pilot training, then Private Pilot, followed by the Instrument Rating, Commercial Pilot, and Air Transport Pilot. They cover the skills of flight, how to master Flight Simulator, and how to use the software as a learning tool towards your pilot’s license. More advanced topics demonstrate how Flight Simulator X can be used as a continuing learning tool and how to simulate real-world emergencies.

NB book refers to previous v of MS flight sin (X).
[The 2020/4 requires a beast of machine to run which is beyond me presently. However, was able when i (finally) got this for about 15e, and with a steam version of x for about 5e, i was able to sim with an old clunker of HP 800G2 mini pc, 1bout 150e from restored dot something. all told in the 'air' for 200! The rudder pedals/thrust joy i had from an aborted previous attempt to get 2020 going on a Victus, actually cost more..]

I think the book is great, as its a good way to have a proper and structured about planes even from general knowledge, nav, etc, rather than just bussing around a bit.
No helicopters though.
Gradually getting though it, very assessable and evidently authors know their his stuff.

Of the "Flight Simulator as a training aid" genre, this one is by far the best. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it is too similar to most standard aviation textbooks that are used for flying real airplanes. Nonetheless, that's not a huge drawback, and it makes it as good a place as any to start if you're a flight simmer looking to build skills or a real pilot who wants to have a convenient review/refresher in the comfort of home instead of the noise and expense of the cockpit.

I have always been fascinated with the use of the Microsoft Flight Simulator as a training aid. This book promises to make the simulator an effective supplemental training tool for a low-time, low-budget pilot like myself.

Very good book on how to fly an airplane using FSX. They start with the basics and move on up to the hard stuff. A must read for any pilot-in-training

Very Comprehensive and detailed book that gives a really good insight to what it takes to learn to be a Pilot - used in conjunction with Microsoft FSX this is an invaluable introduction to aviation.
