I rather enjoyed this set. However in the 1st book I actually forgot that the book was supposed to be about Detective Alec Ramsey, While it touched on him and his men to a certain extent it read more like it "John Tankersley" and the Terrorist Task force was the main focus. Alec seemed more like a minor character then the main one. His character was a bit more developed but not what you'd expect.
This didn't really hurt the book in the way it read. The story flowed well and kept me wanting to see what happened next.
The second book was just as exciting. Alec was much more involved in this book. Some interesting plot twists that seemed a bit pointless and awkward.
All in all I've enjoyed these books and am looking forward to the other 3 although one of them is not offered in the US and only in actual book form in the UK.
I couldn't put this book down. It draws you in, and I don't know if it is due to morbid curiosity, or the wish that the bad guys are going to get their comeuppance that had me hooked, either way it was a brilliant read. This was my first Conrad Jones book, I found it extremely well written and I am now a fan, who will be seeking out more of his work. :)
A page turner to say the least. Like a roller coaster you never knew what would happen on the next page. It involved realistic characters-some were the good guys while others were worse than bad. I will look for his other books!
This is one of the worst written books I've had the misfortune to come across for a long time. And as I've just given up on The 5th Wave, that's saying something. Where do I start to critique this? Okay, first off. If you are going to put the British army into your stories, damn well get the details right. You cannot call an officer in the British army below the rank of half colonel by their rank alone. It's okay for Americans. Not in our army, however. And then the first SAS soldier we're introduced to is...a woman. No. Just no. There's not a woman alive who could pass SAS selection. Most men can't. But besides these details, the writing is painfully show then tell and tell again just in case we missed the significance. It has the subtlety of a wrecking ball. I got to 3% of this one. I'm getting worse. But just not for me at all.
The boxed set really keeps the story together. The characters are interesting and the evil of Jack is detailed which makes the character even more horrific. On one hand a good over evil story but then again, the characters are flawed enough to make it interesting
You people should just read this book yourselves and write your own review on this novel yourself and I really enjoyed reading this book very much so. Shelley MA
Lots and lots of bad guys!! A scale of bad guys--psycho crazy murdering child-torturing bad guys to the boss of the bad guys (the one with clean hands) and the boss guy's lackey. Bad cops, cheating cops, cops that leak info to the press. The other end of the spectrum--children, good women, good men and good cops. It did seem like the bad guys out-numbered the good guys. Lots of swearing. This book was well written though because I found myself understanding how the psycho guy got to where he was (but really glad he wasn't breathing by the end!!!) and rooting for the bad guys who took care of the really bad guys. The bummer is, there was no happy ending unless you count the bad guys getting what they deserved. This is no fairy tale.
Not quite what I had been expecting, but very good just the same. A bit more graphic detail than I was expecting too, but it added to the over-all tension that runs through the entire story. Not gore just for the sake of being gorey, but to bring home to the reader just how depraved and evil the person was. It was strange because way in the back of my mind, I couldn't help but feel sorry for the abused boy that grew into such a monster of a man, and yet instead of seeking help as he matured, to deal with his past, he let it rule his thinking and chose to become a monster. The final choice was his. The story goes full circle. Hard to put down, but now I'm more than ready for a little "lite" reading. LOL
Conrad Jones has a winning combination with his Detective Alex Ramsay series. A set of gritty crime thrillers that certainly keep you on your toes. Book 1 The Child Taker is Criminally Insane introduces you to a horrific paedophile that steals children to order. However is everything really the way it seems to be? Book 3 Criminally Insane finds Alex and his crew following the local crime bosses after finding a brutally murdered young woman. Both books are graphic, so reader beware. Mr Conrads writing style is gripping and vividly descriptive.
the first book was pretty ok. I felt like they was all over the place and also developed ideas of who took the kids and how the father was connected that I would have love to see how it played out. that's where the two stars come in. the second book was so long Angel boring I haven't even finished it and I refuse. it jumps all around. I swore we was just talking about Jack, who the he'll are these other characters. if you have time to waste then by all means read it. if not I suggest you don't even bother. even for a free book I was disappointed
An entertaining read, although didn't realise the first book was supposed to feature Alec Ramsay as the main character, he barely got a look in! Fast paced, good flow and a reasonably well thought out story. Good page turner that certainly didn't lack in bad guys and a rising body count. The second book's (Kindle edition) last three chapters were riddled with spelling mistakes, something which I personally found quite annoying and distracting.
I loved this book it kept me up for 3 nights- couldn't put it down. Everything came together nicely and it was well written. I can't wait to read more from this author. Great book!!!!!!!
Very good read, very gruesome, and horribly frightening. As the title indicate the child taker is a predator Interested in children. But worse he takes children on order. You want a blond 3y. Old, Jack will find one. In this case the twins were in great demand, but the grandfather was head of a anti terrorist group and they come to the rescue after many conflict with the police. You have to cheer for the anti terrorist who have no rules...unlike the police who have to do things by the book. But what of laws? What of principles? A hard answer. However this book came as a three books in a series. Can hardly wait to,see what happens to the vile Individual who made it out of hospital escaping the police.
