Kay de Silva created the Our Amazing World Series with the premise of creating beautiful, fact-rich books, written in simple words that kids would love to read over and over again.

The series is based on themes of animals in their natural habitats, with a strong call to appreciate the role that each living creature plays in making our world the abundant and fascinating place that it is.

Kay practiced as a lawyer for some years before moving into corporate communications. She left the career rat-race behind to bring up her two children; a daughter of seven and a son of five. She and her family live in Melbourne Australia.

"It's so rewarding to hear of the delight that my books bring to young readers. Equally thrilling are the messages from parents who say 'Really? I didn't know that."

She'd love to hear from you too, and can be found on:

ScAry

Not a fan of spider. Big fan of nature though. Spiders will not be killed by me as long as they stay off the ceiling.

Not terrible

Very surface level children's book about spiders. Unfortunately the book contains a number of inaccuracies preventing me from giving it a higher rating.

"Spiders: Amazing Pictures & Fun Facts on Animals in Nature" (Our Amazing World Series, Book 8) by Kay de Silva is a fun book on spiders. You will learn about how they live, what they eat, and all about different kinds of spiders.

Rating: 4 stars because I liked it.
Errors: The list of errors is below...

[location 49 (16%)] "They have been around for over 300 million years."

-Hey, look at that! Only one error! Good job Kay! But listen, spiders have not been around for '300 million years'...got it? Good.

Fun Facts from the book!:

[location 93 (38%)] "Webs in use are correctly called spider webs. Abandoned webs are called cobwebs."

[location 113 (50%)] "Most spiders enjoy being alone. Social Spiders, however are a species of spiders that form large groups or colonies. Some colonies have thousands of members. These colonies work together to build huge webs. All the spiders in the group share the prey that gets trapped in one giant web."

-The first one I know for a fact is true, the second one though, I don't know if it is fact or fiction. I can't always trust Kay's stuff.
