Santa informs the world that it is overpopulated. Way to go Santa! Anyway, instead of this being a preachy message, instead he needs to find another Santa. A South Pole Santa.

Meanwhile Sandra Clauswithawholebunchofstuffaddedon is getting ready to graduate and isn't clear what she wants to do next. So upon hearing of this gig opening up she applies.

Sandra is an orphan who lives on a boat with her guardian and attends a magical school for any type of child (fairy, elf, human, big foot, or whatever) as long as they believe in Santa. Weird, I know.

So Sandra makes the finalist list and goes to compete. Some very strange things start going wrong for her but she carries on.

Also in this book is the story of another orphan that the owner of the school and island has adopted. Jason has a bit of an attitude problem. Still Sandy is crazy about him and unbeknownst to her, he is crazy about her. A storm comes to the island and Jason is missing.

Parts of this book had me seriously rolling my eyes, but if you stick with it, I promise it gets better. By the time they get to the final round and the storm is destroying the island, I could barely put it down. The epilogue really confused and shocked me. Guess I have to read the rest of the series to have that straightened out.

Four stars BUT

I'm very angry about the ending! Not enough Xmas spirit to forgive the nasty marketing trend of leaving a story hanging so you have to buy the next installment! At the very least readers should be warned in description of book that it is not stand alone if you want answers to the mysteries! Other than that, pretty good read. Good book for preteen and young teens.

A fun and whimsical read. Great story! Great cliff hanger at the end. Makes me want to read the next one.

Awesome!

When I first saw this book I thought it would be cute to read as it is really close to Christmas. I couldn't put it down! The only time I stopped reading was when I fell asleep. I Cammy wait to start the next one!

I thought this was a clever story about the search for a second Santa. It was a fun adventure, with a little teen romance (just a little), and a mystery afoot at the North Pole.

What I didn't like:
Way too much backstory. Chapters 2 through 11 could have been eliminated and the important details spread throughout the rest of the story. There's little conflict in them, and it's mostly telling how Sandra ended up at the school and her relationships with various students.
I almost stopped reading several times, wondering when "something" was going to happen.
I'm glad I did continue on, though. Once the story got back to the Santa problem, it was much more interesting and exciting. I'm sure the rest of the books in the series will be more on track.

If you take bits of "Charlie & the Chocolate Factory", "Harry Potter" and add a story about becoming the next Santa (or in this case an additional Santa), you would have this book.

Sandra and some other people who are from various parts of the world are selected to participate in some challenges to become the "South Pole Santa" because the world's population has become too much for Santa to handle by himself.

The candidates come from all walks of life and backgrounds and each seem to have their own special powers.

I won't go into any more detail for fear of giving away key parts of the story, but I really did enjoy this book and have the sequel ready to start reading as soon as I finish this review.

Magically pleasant with from start to finish! Meant to be read with a childish spirit, this Christmas story puts a bit of a spin on the traditional and takes you back and forth from the islands to the North Pole and introduces you to some very special characters along the merry way. (If made into a movie, I believe this tale would compliment Will Ferrell's "Elf" quite well!

Excellent

This book was well written, so well written that you felt you were there with Sandra and Cappie. Even though Sandra has suffered a significant loss in her life, thus has not turned her against Christmas or having the Christmas spirit. But what will happen when she and Cappie go on an adventure?

Really enjoyable story about a Second Santa. This would be a great read-aloud book read each night before Christmas. Not your typical Holiday book and it appears it is the first in a series as I believe we had a cliff-hanger ending. The granola bars sounded really good too!

Interesting angle!

The idea that a second Santa was needed was an excellent choice to write a humorous and mysterious book. I am going on to the second book in this series and hoping it is just as good.

This book combines a bit of magic, romance, holiday traditions, and fantasy in a whimsical adventure. There are two main plots: Sandra's story detailing her life on a tugboat named Mistletoe moored on an island in the South Pacific, and the contest Santa Claus decides to hold to find a second Santa to cope with the world's exploding population of children.

Sandra's parents are missing and presumed dead. They had recently enrolled her in the St. Annalise Academy where the students are all gifted, whether they be human or part supernatural. Throughout the story, Sandra learns more about her lineage and special talents. At the same time, readers are introduced to her new friends. When Sandra learns about the contest for a second Santa, she immediately applies. Cappie, her guardian, and her island friends encourage her. Readers are taken on a colorful journey to the North Pole, where they participate in the fun-filled but grueling competition to determine the winner. There are lots of twists and turns, holiday magic and fun, mixed in with a bit of romance and coming of age in both parallel plots.

In the end, what will Sandra's future hold? Will she learn how to cope with the loss of her parents, her talented friends, and the boy who seems to disdain her? Who will win the Santa competition? Stay tuned for more answers in the next book of the series.

This book was a fun read. It is highly recommended for middle grade and young teen readers. Adults looking for a light holiday read will also enjoy if willing to suspend reality for a few hours.

3.5 stars, rounded up

This is another book that’s been on my to-read list for several years, and I’m glad I finally decided to read it. It’s obviously intended for a younger audience, but it was an enjoyable read anyhow.

I liked the MC and the touch of magic involved. (How can there not be magic when Santa is so important to the story?) I saw the resolution coming a mile away, but it was fun to follow along and see how things got to that point. There are several more books in this series, and I’ll probably read at least the next one before making a decision on the remaining books.

This is the first book that I have read by Jinglebelle Jackson and I really enjoyed it. Can not wait to read the next book in the series. These books were brought to my attention by a friend of my moms who is friends with the author. The characters in this book are well developed and interesting, and there is a little bit of everything in this book, mystery, adventure and a little bit of Romance. I'm looking forward what this series has in store in the next 4 books.

A sweet Christmas story for children. Sandra is 16 years old and I can't help picture her much younger in my head. . May be because of the way she thinks and acts. The story is like a babbling stream with now and then a small waterfall. The things that happened to Jason in the cave was a tense moment, but no solution what it was. The story ends with questions left. The cliffhanger is a pity, otherwise I could have given it four stars.

It was okay. 😐

The author began with a great concept, then drowned it in a steaming tub of Harry Potter.

It was readable. I actually finished the book. It would be a perfectly acceptable read for anyone over the age of 9.

I will not be going any further in the series, but a tween might find it engaging.

My children love these little books. They thoroughly enjoy each and every story, as if they are all unique and individual without any cause for similarity among them. Even though sometimes, they might seem tedious and repetitive to me as a parent, I do enjoy being able to read short-stories to my children that are clean and respective.

The reader will fall in love with Sandra. And this is a perfect story to read during the holiday. It will definitely entertain you and bring out your holiday spirit. There is a delightful mixture of magic, potential romance, and holiday festivities. Older kids will be sucked into the story and the magic of Christmas

GREAT Christmas Story

I have never thought about the need for a second Santa, I guess population growth is a bigger deal than I thought. It is a good thing Santa is paying attention to the needs of the future, and looks ahead to the future.

I loved the whole series! I choose to leave this review at book one because I am just too lazy to review each of the 5 books in this series separately even though they deserve it. ( I don't like writing reviews and don't often do it, it is so hard for me to express my feeling about a book and it seems silly to give a synopsis of the book as the blurb is usually better) I got this one free through the fussy librarian. I was hooked immediately, loved the story and characters. Even though I have a fairly firm ” no buying books” policy I bought the rest of the series because it was so enjoyable. I wish there was more! I am sad I can not find any other books by this author. I highly recommend this series.

I LOVED this book. The story was so fun and original with great characters. And it was fun to read during Christmas time. I wasn't too happy that the book had no indication that it was part of a series so the story abruptly ended without a conclusion. I would have liked a warning! Despite this I will most likely be reading the rest of the series in the future. I would like to know what happens and have some fun Christmas spirit in the mean time!

Fun Christmas story even for an adult

I didn't expect much out of this story as it is a kid's story but I was pleasantly surprised at how fun it was for an adult to read. I enjoyed how the magic of Christmas was woven into a fantasy story with other magical elements and lots of great friendships and special relationships.

Thanks to the last page I must now figure out if there is a sequel!

Cute, light, feel good Christmas story.

This was a light, quick read Christmas tale - a little suspense, a little romance and lots of Christmas spirit. I look forward to reading more of the series.

MontebEllo Jackson did a great job writing this two hundred twenty-two page book. This would be a nice story to read to children during the Christmas season.
