After reading so many police procedurals and dramas I wanted a lighter Hallmark sorta book for a break. Kate Hewitt can always provide that as her books are positive and heartwarming.
The Bluebell Inn is the first in her newer series. Matthew and Ellie live in the United States with their two children. When Matthew's mother Gwen needs assistance with the Bluebell Inn (as well as help with a medical condition) the couple uproot their lives and move to Wales to help. The inn is failing and is in need of many repairs. Matthew starts renovations and Ellie tries to develop a relationship with her mother-in-law.
Ellie is an over the top positive person. Matthew's sister Sarah helps with the accounts and tries to explain what needs to be done, first off raising prices for the bed and breakfast, but Ellie and Gwen keep their heads in the sand. If you ignore a problem, it goes away, right? :-)
The story is light and has some interpersonal relationship drama, nothing objectionable. If you like the Welsh setting and family stories this would be a good book for you.
Author Kate Hewitt lives in Wales with her husband and five children. She is the author of many books and I particualrly liked the Willoughby Close series and some of her stand alone books.
