3.5 stars.

There was a part in the story where the male protagonist is faced with what, or how, a submissive/slave is truly treated. It's while he's trying to exorcise his frustration in a scene set up by the Martinique owner. Kneeling before him is everything that he asks for. But in his quest to rid himself of the past he takes a good look at this faceless woman. Suddenly her smooth and firm skin reveals its slight imperfections, markings left by previous Dominants. Small tell-tale signs of a woman desperately seeking a Master, no matter the consequences. Taking a measure of pity on the woman he gives her what comfort he can and moves on.

The reason why I pointed this out is because I finally understood the male protagonist. As a Dominant he is in tune with the physical nuances of females. The way their lips may tremble, a nervous twitch in their index finger - even an expulsion of air from their mouths. In essence he is used to controlling every physical aspect. It amazed me how clever the author was able to portray the Dominant's ability to notice the outside scars on a random submissive. But when it came to his love interest he is unable to unravel the emotional ones he placed her.

For the life of me I've never understood how characters are meant to fall in love over a space of three days. I understand lust at first sight, and to a point instant love. But true love, the kind that doesn't make you jealous but happy knowing that it exists, seems to be just beyond reach. I mean how is childish tantrums and a whole lot of under handed bullying suppose to endear someone to you? It's a formula that I've noticed a lot of adult fiction writers are employing. I'm not stating this as a negative towards Christa Wick, just as a casual observation.

But back to the the review...

There were a few things that I wished Christa Wick would have explored with greater depth in the story. Such as the heroine's complicated family, or even a Martinique scene or two before the Hero came upon the love interest. Something to lend a bit more creed to their character. Then again this could be Ms Wick's clever little ruse to entice the readers back for more.

Whatever it is Christa does it for me. Though I may not give her great ratings (primarily because her works are short stories) I do enjoy each morsel that she writes. It gives me an hour or two to ponder the who's, what's, why's an how's of her stories. That's when you know that the author is something special. What you don't want is a book that you forget about moments after closing it.

Until Next Time Happy Reading

Another story, rewritten by the author. Griffin and Katelyn's attraction to each other is very evident, but I am not sure just how convincing they are together. While enjoyable to read on the surface level, some of the nagging questions I have were not answered - why is Griffin so focused on her? why would he allow a disrespectful employee to remain? why is Katelyn so positive he is the one right away?

My Rating: ★★½
ACCEPTABLE: The characteristics of a 2 star story include: a passable story but there was some element(s) that kept it from being a good story; and, it won’t make it to my 'read again' pile. I would not easily recommend it to a friend but would not rule out the possibility.
My Thoughts:
I begin by stating that I am a fan of Christa Wick's Curves books. Consequently, I was expecting to enjoy Pet, which sadly I did not. Although the ending redeemed the book a bit for me, I was not a huge fan of the overall story. I'm glad I read the entire compilation and not the individual serial books because it made the story seamless. Regardless, I still cared very little for Griffin or Katelyn. Griffin's machinations and manipulation frustrated me. I actually hated how he treated Katelyn. And, her "I'm a strong woman but getting wet for you...constantly" reaction was downright irritating. Griffin's confession of love felt a little vanilla. I was expecting more after all he put Kate through. I would have appreciated reading a proposal and wedding rather than the honorable mentions they received. I think a wedding would have humanized Griffin more in my readers' eyes.

Although I was not a fan of Pet, I still look forward to seeing what Wick comes up with next.

Two and half stars, rounded to 3 for the entertainment value alone.

This was a strange little book for me. Ultimately these characters were forgettable, especially Griffin. There is little dialogue in the book, other than the "commands" and the times she decides to "disobey". Essentially, Kate's really attracted to Griffin, the billionaire into BDSM. She applied for a position with his firm, but missed the interview because she was mugged. He's willing however make a proposition: $50,000 for a week of submission. So a highly paid prostitute. She really needs the money because she's out of work, but she's really attracted to him so eventually she says yes. There's definitely chemistry, but she hardly knows him and he's a d-bag.

And there are holes that I found troublesome... I wanted to know more about Kate's backstory and what happened to her mother. It was like there was a prequel to all of this that's never been published and what we learn in the course of the book just isn't sufficient.

Not that there weren't plenty of sexy, erotic, bondage play scenes, I just think I expected the romance part of this to be hotter, but it was just the same old... I just want him to love me/I don't want to fall in love with my submissive. It all gets worked out in an interesting way and there's an HEA.

Coerced submission

3.5 stars

Katelyn is financially desperate. She goes to Griffin for a job and is instead offered $50,000 to be his submissive for a week. If she safe words before the week is over she only gets $1000 which isn't enough to solve her money troubles. She wants to do it for the experience but is convinced he'll use her for almost a week then push her to safe word and she'll walk away without the money or her dignity.

This feels like coercion to me. I would have enjoyed the book a lot more if she had told him her concerns and he had changed the terms. Instead I can't enjoy her first few days because she can't enjoy them.

*spoiler alert* The book gets so much better when she stands up for herself and walks away. After that it doesn't feel coerced. The entire book reads like one extended scene and definitely not a typical love story or even a typical submissive story where the submissive is held and cared for after sex. In those early days he just walks away and ignores her a lot of the time. I prefer more connection and care in these relationships.

I listened to this book on audible, and quite frankly I don't think I much care for books on tape, especially ones of the more steamy variety. It makes the language used so much for grass and corny. However, I do like the fact that I can put it on and go for a walk or having playing as your'e going to sleep.
It took listening to quite a few chapters before I began to get used to the narrator's voice. The narrator's voice was not what I would have imagined Griffins character to sound like, and when he then spoke for Katelyn, I kept making pinched facing, because it just didn't work. Luckily, there was barely any dialogue, especially from Katelyn.

I am normally a big fan of Christa Wick's, but I was not at all impressed with this one. This story was mostly from the hero's point of view and has very little dialogue, which made for a very disassociated read.

Was good, I wasn't too impressed with Griffin very much in the beginning. I thought he was arrogant & egotistical but towards the end I understood him a little more. Katelyn was naïve for the most part until she decided that she wasn't going to be pushed past where she wanted to go. They both had histories with their family that made them the way they were but in Katelyn it made her both independent & submissive at the same time which sent Griffin climbing the walls at times. The story line could have been extended a little further with a little less hot in the beginning, it was kind of not believable that she'd agree that fast to his demands, even the way he made them. I was a little outraged for her while reading the book up until he finally smartened up.

Good Reading

This book has good writing and excellent editing. The reason for the three star rating is the shallowness of the plot. What you read is all there is, nothing deeper nothing hidden to contemplate. If you enjoy escaping for the afternoon with a good book that entertains without engaging your brain or emotions, Pet is perfect for you. However, if you are looking for characters with hidden depths, buried scars, and emotional baggage to deal with, keep looking Pet is escapism reading at its best.

Ok first off this is a very short read 36 pages for free on your kindle. Ok so lets get to my option. The book is just the begging of a story. Gets you enthralled then leaves you hanging can you say cliffhanger. I am not mad that it is a cliffhanger, my thing is I've read a lot of short novella's that manage to give you story and good solid interaction between the characters but this just missed the mark. I can honestly say the sex was just plain boring. Very light D/s.

After reading all of the popular romance trilogies I was looking for something that would be an awesome read but give me a bit of a break in-between. This was a perfect fit. It was very stimulating and I love the scenes. I would recommend this to anyone that likes the spice without all the drama. Very good ending.

One note: I probably could have done without the cane. It was hard to visualize "sexy" with it. Still a great read.

Knock your block off intensity

Yes this had bdsm elements but this was way more cerebral and way more passionate then just woohoo spank me daddy type stuff. Both characters went through the ringer and came out on the other side still in tact. A great story

I didn't enjoy this one as much as the others by Christa Wick, but it's still better than some others I've read in the genre. I don't regret my purchase, but I'm not wholly satisfied either.
