The Greatest Western Writer Of The 21st Century

Young Matt Bodine and Sam Two Wolves became blood brothers on the day the rancher's son saved the half breed's life, forging a bond no one could ever break. As years passed, a legend grew of the half breed and the white man who rode together—and when the situation demands, kill together.

In Arizona Territory, you can't keep trouble from coming, but when it does, you don't have to offer it a chair. And trouble always comes.

When Matt and Sam are ambushed by a violent gang led by the scurrilous Zack Jardine, who has his own reasons for wanting the blood brothers dead, Matt is badly wounded. After leaving Matt in a Navajo village to get patched up, Sam rides off hot on the trail of the Jardine Gang.

Sam finds the cutthroats selling guns to the Indians, a move that will likely explode into an all-out tribal war. Outnumbered and outgunned, the blood brothers aim to settle Zack Jardine's hash once and for all—with a little luck, a lot of bullets, and the courage to shoot true.

In this latest entry in the Blood Bond series, Matt Bodine and his partner Sam Two Wolves are ambushed with Matt catching a bullet. Sam leaves him in the care of a Navajo tribe while he tracks the ambushers. The trail leads him to the town of Flat Rock.

Zack Jardine and his gang are giving a load of stolen guns to militant Navajo to get a war started so that the army will come in and wipe out the warriors and move the rest out. He plans to seize the land and has a silent partner aiding him.

Sam is aided in his investigation by a pair of range detectives named Stovepipe for his lanky frame and Wilbur.

The J. A. Johnstone that writes this series is a favorite author. I've read enough of his own books to recognize the style. That I don't know any of the others that use the pseudonym just means I don't read any of their original works.

This was a bit different from the start. With Richard Rowen doing the narration, I was getting a Marvel comic vibe the entire time. I've listed to too many of those lately and Richard doesn't usually do the Blood Bond series. It also was mainly focused on Two Wolves, which was an interesting departure. I enjoyed the parting from normal, though I miss the old narrator, even though Richard did a great job, just wasn't used to it after listening to so many in a row.

Don't start a war you can't win.

Another great story with Matt and Sam. The blood brothers and friends cleared the outlaws out of their profits, and no kingdom.

Arizona Ambush

Johnstone tells the tales of the West with the best of them. He definitely is as good as L'Amour or Gray.

Another good western series by Johnstone. This one follows the adventures of two brothers as they travel the old west. Recommended

A bit over the top, even for a western how much damage a body can endure. Ok story but seemed like a formula book.
