“I couldn't make a choice between chaos and control. Not because it had been made for me. But because there was no choice to make. It wasn't one or the other. They were both inside me. They were both a part of me. I was nothing without both sides. Take one away and I would fall."

“ A Fractured Light “ managed to surpass “ A Beautiful Dark “ in entertainment and a tiny bit of originality, but unfortunately it remains a typical paranormal romance with typical characters and plot. Basically, it’s the same recipe of the first book with a few things changed along the way.
Thankfully, the plot moved along – kind of – but Skye ruined everything for me. She’s still torn between Asher and Devin (Girl, wake up! He f*cking stabbed you! If a guy stabbed me he would definitely be out of my mind for good ), while at the same time trying to figure out what she wants to be, a rebel or a guardian? She lies to her best friends in order to protect them which would have been okay if her lies weren’t… terrible, and is acting like a bitch to Ian because he hooked up with another girl. What? She’s suddenly jealous now? Somebody needs to tell her that she can’t have everything. Despite all this, she grows as a character, especially toward the end of the book. She understand who she is, who she wants to become and refuses to be a pawn in somebody else’s game ( Go girl! ). The love triangle between Asher and Devin gets on my nerves because I honestly do not see the necessity of a love triangle! She loves Asher, Devin doesn’t have a free will and he stabbed her not a while ago… their relationship couldn’t work… end of story. I like Asher, but he keeps secrets from her and that makes me think he has an ulterior motive. I don't doubt his feelings but maybe his motivation a little.
The pace was really slow in the beginning, since nothing was actually happening, but fortunately in the end it picked up. There were some revelations that could have been shocking If I hadn’t seen them from a mile away. But there is a plot twist in the end which made everything more exciting and intriguing. I have a feeling that the final book is going to be the best in the trilogy.
I honestly believe that if I were a new comer into the genre this series might have blown my mind, but for veterans of the genre it has nothing new to offer and it's really predictable at most times.

I didn't really understand the point of this book.
Nothing really happened until the end and even then it didn't really have a point!
It wasn't a boring book, it just didn't have a point!
I understand that this is the middle book in a trilogy though and in all honesty, nothing much ever happens in the middle book so i'm okay with the whole pointless thing I guess.

But here's what I was not okay with...
Skye.
Skye annoyed me in this book.
I was okay with her in book one but for some reason I didn't like her in this book.
1. I couldn't understand why she kept going back to Devin. Devin is cool and all (I actually like him better than Asher) but he tried to kill her! I don't know about you but if someone tried to kill me, I would avoid them!

And she would be wanting to talk to him and then do a 180 and tell him "YOU TRIED TO KILL ME! GET THE HELL AWAY FROM ME!" (Okay, she didn't exactly say that...)

I'm sorry, Skye. But you seem to be putting off mixed signals.

2. Whenever someone didn't like Asher, Skye would become suspicious.
"Asher is charming. Even the teachers like him."
Skye seemed to think that people were seeing something that she couldn't see in Asher. Like people not liking Asher is some kind of foreshadowing.
No, Skye, there just isn't anyone that everyone likes! Some people are going to have to dislike him!
Apparently, she did have a reason to be suspicious but I still find it ridiculous! Can't someone not like Asher without it being suspicious!

I'll end my rant here...
but this was an okay book.
I'm tempted to give it only 2 stars though :(
I'll still read the 3rd book, when it comes out...

This. Book. Messes. With. Your. Freaking. MIND!!

Seriously! It's like there is a criteria for "How to Mess With Your Reader's Minds and Make Them Lose It" - a guide, handed out to authors at their little secret midnight gatherings. The heroine is torn. There's two hot guys. The heroine has to decide between them. She NEVER LISTENS TO ANYONE WHO GIVES GOOD ADVICE AND DOES HER OWN THING...which normally leads to her SCREWING EVERYTHING UP. And then, we have a well-placed and anti-climatic CLIFFHANGER to make your life miserable!

No! I refuse to be messed with! This book can be summed up in three words: cheesy, self-discovery-soul-searching and groan-worthy. I will now go and hit my head against a wall. Repeatedly - even though some parts were cute with ok concepts, most of it was simply about a girl who needs therapy and needs to get her priorities in life straight. Because when they tell you NOT to talk to the damn guy, Skye, DON'T FREAKING TALK TO HIM!!

It's like she's deaf!

Where do I begin?

I guess I should start by saying I don't remember much about Beautiful Dark only that it was yet another wannabe Twilight that featured angels. In other words, it was one of those books that made me hate angels (that's never a good thing). I still though decided to give the second book a chance, via the library, but still a chance. I thought there could be potential to this series despite how big of a cliche it was. I was wrong.

The sequel is even worse than the first book, and the first book wasn't that great. You could literally skip this book and be perfectly okay to read the upcoming third book because nothing that significant happens here. Okay, we learn a few things about Aunt Jo and the climax does set things up for the third book, but I'm sure there will be some sort of recap considering that none of these books dealt with the fallout appropriately.

Honestly, I was bored when I read this book. I'm glad I read it though because I'm in the middle of finals and I really shouldn't be distracted by reading fiction and I wasn't distracted by this. If it wasn't for finals though, I'd be pissed. I felt like I wasted my time with this book. Nothing really happened in this book as I said before nothing.

There wasn't even character development and this book needed some heavy character development. All the characters, including our narrator and main character, are flat. We don't really get what motivates them, what individualizes them. Really, the only way I was able to distinguish the love interest was that Asher was the dark headed one and Devin is the one that stabbed her and has blonde hair. That's not good, people. That's not good.

And I have to say, I was really annoyed with how certain situations were handled in this book. Really, having feelings for a guy who stabbed you in the stomach? How is that even....

nyway, just makes me angry thinking about it. I am fucking (excuse my language) sick of the glamorization of abusive relationships in YA fiction. And yes, I know that Davies states he had no choice. But he freaking did have a choice. He put his hands onto that knife, there was no mind control. No nothing. I don't care if he was ordered to do it, he had the choice.

Sigh. Really were a lot of things about this book that made me angry when it came to this book, that I think were just done in terms of being a plot device or moving the non existent plot along. And if I have to hear Skye apologize for something she did not do or something she should not be apologizing for again........

Yeah, not going to be pleasant.

Best Feature: Um, relatively clean prose. For the most part this book was written decently enough. The purpose prose wasn't that bad until the end. And there weren't that many scenes or descriptions that made me want to roll my eyes at least from the writing perspective. Though the dialogue was about as stilted as the character development. Honestly, I was shocked to find out that this wasn't a packaged book. It just seems that forced.

Worst Feature: Unnecessary love triangle. Seriously, I do not know why there is a love triangle going on at this point in the novel. I mean, Devin tried to kill Skye in the last installment. Surely, that should put an end to Skye going all googly eyed over Mr. Blonde, Tan, and Bland. But nope. She's still having visions of making out with him. The really sad thing is that both of these love interests are so bland. Asher, her boyfriend, is at best a weak supporting character. Devin's role is pretty minuscule too. Really, most of the characters in this book apart from Skye needed some developing. And Skye herself is just a bore. A bore who I could not figure out for the life of me why everyone wants. Even Bella had more hobbies than Skye does. She's just that sad. Seriously, the only thing I know about her is that she likes to wear layers in the spring because it's very practical for the weather. That, my friends, is sad.

Appropriateness: Hmm, not going to give this one my seal of approval for appropriateness. Yes, there isn't any explicit language or sex in this book. But God, do I hate the way this book portrays relationships (it's okay apparently to moon after someone who tries to kill/apologize to people who are insulting and trash talking you) and Skye is such a doormat it's not funny.

A Fractured Light takes off immediately after the events of the A Beautiful Darkness when Skye was almost killed by Devin. Asher takes her to a remote cottage so that she can recuperate. Once she’s comes back home, she realizes that the Guardians are everywhere (Devin is back too) and her life as she knew it did not exist anymore, but she still tries to hang on it for as long as she can. She also starts trying to get her new powers under control. As far as her love life is concerned, she is happy to be with Asher but as the story progresses, she finds that she still has feelings for Devin. Also, while she does choose a side pretty early in the book, she finds herself questioning that decision.

I thought this book was way better than the first one. But I still found myself getting very frustrated with the narrative but also unable to stop reading because I wanted to know what happened next. I think the frustration was partly due to the pace of the narrative; it was kinda slow and then there was Asher. I have to be honest, I didn’t like him much in the first book also and let’s just say that he hasn’t really grown on me. He and Skye are together and while most of the times, he says the right things, he just seems to be plugging the Rebellion every chance he gets. Which really makes you wonder, does he really love her or what she’s capable of doing for the Rebellion? Skye spends a lot of time trying to figure where she fits, definitely not the Order, they did try to kill her after all, or the Rebellion? It was so good to see her thinking for herself and not letting other peoples’ expectations dictate her choices.

What I like about Fractured Light is that Davies gives us some very good secondary characters. Cassie, Dan and Ian are all back as are Aunt Jo, Devin and Raven. The new characters are Ardith and Gideon, friends of Asher from the Rebellion and Ardith is really easy to like. And I still like Devin, I preferred him to Asher in the first book also. Yes, I think it was a bad idea to stab the girl you claimed to love but I think he’s definitely more conflicted. He knows that loving Skye will land him with the Order and yet, he still tries to protect her in his own way.

A Fractured Light is a good and interesting read, if a little frustrating at times, still worthwhile though.

The cover: Pretty! But, the angle of her arm, (the right side of the picture), looks odd, almost like her forearm from the elbow down is missing. Especially if you look at the cover from a distance or as a thumbnail image.

The book, (so far!), I am halfway through so here's half a review lol: I wonder if Jocelyn Davies enjoys skiing and wintery sports? There's a lot of "skiiers are teh shizzle!" vibe what with how close they are to nature and Skye using skiing to focus her powers, etc. At times the whole skiing/powers thing feels a bit forced and campy. The characters are ok but after reading the "Hush Hush" and "Fallen" series, by Becca Fitzpatrick and Lauren Kate, respectfully, it almost feels like the cookie cutter copies of the good and bad paranormal fighting over the human girl as has been done countless times before like, for another instance, Vampire Diaries. But, I'm saving my final thoughts and opinions until after I've read past the last chapter. I really enjoyed the first book so maybe this one will redeem itself to me by the end of it. Happy Reading, ya'll!

Just finished it. Now, I'm looking forward to book three! :)

Σε σχέση με το προηγούμενο βιβλίο της σειράς, θα λέγαμε πως αυτό εδώ, είναι πιο πολυδιάστατο. Η Σκάι, έχει να αντιμετωπίσει πάρα πολλά γεγονότα τα οποία, και πρέπει να βάλει σε τάξη, πριν να αποφασίσει πως θα πράξει και ποιον δρόμο τελικά θα ακολουθήσει. Η αγάπη της για τον Άσερ είναι μεγάλη και αναμφισβήτητη, θα μπορούσε να κάνει τα πάντα για εκείνον αρκεί, να είναι μαζί στην αιωνιότητα. Από την άλλη, παρά το γεγονός ότι ο Ντέβιν την πρόδωσε, δεν μπορεί να εμποδίσει τον εαυτό της να νοιάζεται για εκείνον, ούτε να αισθάνεται πράγματα γι' αυτόν. Οι φίλοι της δεν την απομακρύνουν όμως οι σχέσεις τους, μοιάζουν να αλλάζουν και εκείνη, δεν μπορεί να κάνει κάτι για να το εμποδίσει καθώς, για να τους προστατέψει, πρέπει να τους κρατήσει στο σκοτάδι. Οι δύο αντίπαλες αγγελικές παρατάξεις την διεκδικούν και εκείνη πρέπει να επιλέξει ανάμεσά τους. Όμως πόσο εύκολο είναι αυτό στην πραγματικότητα όταν στις φλέβες της κυλάει αίμα που είναι εξίσου φωτεινό, όσο και σκοτεινό; Πώς μπορεί να επιλέξει όταν μια απόφασή της μπορεί να ακυρώσει αυτό που πραγματικά είναι;

I really don't know where to begin with this book! This book was just surprisingly SHOCKING and THRILLING! A Beautiful Dark was painstakingly beautiful that I fell deeply in love with EVERY page. I just couldn't wait to get my hands on the Sequel knowing it would not disappoint and HOLY CAT NIP was I right!!! A fractured Light starts off where we left off in the first book, girl likes two guys, guys like her back, she is gifted with both light and dark, the guys fight for her love and yea you should just read the first book. Anyway if you guys thought Skye was boring in this book(Which I totally didn't but I know others keep saying so #haters) wait till you read this one!!!!!! Skye was everything I hoped she would be in this book she was strong when she needed to be, she has accepted the fact that she is the chosen one and she is also has a lot more control of her powers in this book which is totally AWESOME because she was pretty weak in A beautiful Dark which is understandable because she was a 'baby angel' then.

Ok, remember my last review when I was pouring my HATRED out on Devin.....Well, I take all of that back for now! I was so in love with him in the first book that the ending really broke my heart! I was so sad and really disliked Devins character so much I was hoping the author would kill him off in this book just so he could get what he deserved lol. I think I spoke to soon because Devin is back in my heart and I really do LOVE HIM!! I don't know if I forgive him for what he did in A beautiful dark but hey shit happens. Don't judge me because I AM #TEAMDEVIN all the way!!!

This book was really good!!!! It had a lot of action and BOY were there twists and turns!!! Asher and Skye becomes close of course which is really nice, I think Asher is okay but I just don't see him with Skye!! I mean yea, Asher is cute and all but he just doesn't have the poetic swagg that Devin does. Skye is actually still having trouble picking between the two of them because she knows if she picks one then she will most likely have to be on their side and Skye doesn't want to choose. Skye has do something quick because a war is coming and they are coming after her.

You guys are SO going to LOVE and ADORE this book. Oh yea and did I mention that Raven is back??? She is painfully my favorite evil character in the book I just love her to death! Anyway this book was great and the ending was pretty epic that it had me dancing around like a Telly tubbie..... YEA, IT WAS THAT GOOD!!!!

While being nothing out of the ordinary A Fractured Light still managed to surpassed A Beautiful Dark in entertainment, and a bit of originality. Skye managed to go from "bland" to slightly interesting, Asher is still sort of hot, though not really, Devin is infuriatingly surprisingly still around, Cassie is still the 2D man/gossip obsessed girl she has always been, Ian is an ass, and Adam still eats fries.

Basically is the same recipe of the first book with a few things changed along the way. Again, a mindless read. Fast and easy going.

Not to say that everything stayed the same in this instalment, the plot moved along, kind of. After Skye gets seriously injured she gets a mini vacation, but then when she returns to her town and school the place is crawling with Guardians. Who are supposedly trying very hard to kill her (I laugh at this assumption). But that ain't gonna bring our girl down, oh no, she, am, spends the novel honing her abilities, trying very hard to come up with good lies (she fails miserably) and being totally oblivious to the obvious signs around her. While at the same time trying to figure out what she wants to be, a rebel or a guardian? Does she want to be a mindless drone or a chaotic soul?

The plot resembled a lot of the first book. Skye is still slightly torn between her two fellas (how?! Don't even get me started on this because if a guy stabbed ME he would surely be out of my mind for good), there's a party sprinkled in the middle where things happen, and the end is just as confusing as the first book's was. In trying to be fast paced and to leave the reader with the "OMG! What JUST HAPPENED?" what it actually did was leave me like this: "Uh, okay, so what?"

I don't know, but the one word I would use to describe this novel/series is obvious, too obvious. The plot, the characters, the decisions, everything that happens really. It doesn't have any spark. It doesn't take you by surprise. I rolled my eyes so many times it ain't even funny.

Again, and I cannot stress this enough, if I were a new comer into the genre this series might have blown my mind, but for veterans of the genre it's like "oh no, not again." The story line has been beaten to a pulp.

Okay, this is going to be quick because I don't have much to say that I didn't already say in my review of A BEAUTIFUL DARK, the novel before this one. One could really talk for hours about this book but it wouldn't be something you haven't heard before. Neither is this plot-line.

The only reason I read this is because I somewhat liked A BEUATIFUL DARK. At the time I had given it the benefit of the doubt because I think it could have been good. I picked up this sequel because I was hoping to see improvement on all of the things that weren't done so well in the first novel. A FRACTURED LIGHT actually starts out cheesier and worse than its predecessor.

Skye is still just as hopeless and weak even though she is supposedly super powerful. Asher and Devin are still pining away at Skye uselessly and Skye is "torn between two super hot guys." Why does that sound familar? Oh, I know-almost every young adult novel out there. A well executed love triangle is few and far between. This one is pretty out there.

I don't find pleasure in telling you I didn't enjoy it, I just want you to know what you are going into. Heck, you may even love it, plenty of people do. But a review can sway the people that are undecided so that is why I must give my honest opinion.

I'm going to make this easy, if you loved HUSH, HUSH or A BEAUTIFUL DARK, your little heart will eat this up.

If you disliked the aforementioned novels, stay away. Far, far away. Like, really far.

I won't be reading any more in this series.

My alternative recommendation is to find any YA paranormal romance that isn't stereotypical or cliche. Then tell me about it. Please, tell me, because I haven't really found one.

Alright, I'll be honest in saying that as much as I wanted to like this book, I just couldn't feel it. Starting with the plot.

I expected the plot to move a lot more that what it did. Yes, the reader gets more info on both the rebellion and the order. I liked learning more about both groups especially what their motives really are. Still, the reader doesn't get much but instead bits and pieces. Nothing really moves till the ending of the book when things finally come together.

The love interest. UGH! My biggest gripe. I'm all for a love triangle, but GEESH! This chick seemed liked she enjoyed bouncing between guys. And yes guys. As in several. It frustrated me to no end that her feelings were so unstable. I hoped and hoped that she would just choose to release the stress from me, but my goodness she didn't. Therefore, it nagged me to no end.

The ending of the book is the best part. Things finally get moving and more secrets revealed. Skye finally makes up her mind (THANK GOD!) And is now well on her way. There are some other revelations that help soften this book for me. Those were nice plot twists that I did not see coming and enjoyed them.

Overall, this book is okay. I wanted to love it more since I did really liked the first book. A Fractured Light is an uneven mix of emotions that will drive the reader crazy. If you like a roller coaster story that has continuous ups and downs, with emotions, then you will love this book.

While I want to thank First Reads and HarperTeen for providing me a copy of A Fractured Light, I have to be honest and say that I did not enjoy this novel. I found the writing to be filled with cliches and dependent on overly dramatic phrases. The plot was nearly devoid of action until the last ten pages and had an absurd amount of holes (Why doesn't Skye care who healed her at the end of A Beautiful Dark? Why doesn't the Order ever try to kill her again while she's on any of her countless hikes/runs into the forest? Why does Cassie only need half a page to accept that angels are real and Skye is one of them? If there's a war going on between the Order and the Rebellion, why do they coexist so peacefully?). Skye is the type of female "heroine" that I really dislike, incredibly powerful but so insanely absorbed in this boy and that boy that she can't seem to get her act together and actually be strong. There's nothing wrong with having an emotional female protagonist, nothing wrong with having a romance drive the plot, but there is a problem when the protagonist cares more about boys than she does about her family and friends, an upcoming war, and the potential end of the world. Personally, I just couldn't get into Skye as a character or this novel as a whole.

I can't get enough of this series! I am so in love with the characters, the story, the epicness, the romance, everything! Skye's journey through her 17th year continues. She obviously lives and didn't die by Devin's hand. Asher is so sweet and caring for her that I still can't figure out if I'm rooting more for Asher or Devin. However I'm leaning more toward Devin. He is so tortured and broken after almost killing her and then getting bonded during his grief it is impossible not to love this guy. Skye finds out some interesting details concerning Aunt Jo and maybe Ian that suddenly makes their characters make more sense. Cassie finds out the secret --along with others and I couldn't stop laughing at her reaction to it. She's so upset Skye didn't tell her she didn't even care about the bunch of flowers just FLYING through the air! Not the typical reaction for sure. Which is just another reason she's probably my favorite character. Skye discovers how to control her powers. And the controling the weather this is just awesome! Plus, she finds out she can see the future and, oh man, what a future! Let's fast forward to that now please! She finds clarity in herself and her life and finally chooses between being light or dark.

I called Skye many names. Non of them was good or nice. She was mad at Devin for trying to kill her (which is excusable) but she didnt try to understand him. She knew that he had no option but she couldnt put two and two together and see that Devin never actually meant to hurt her, he was forced to.

I liked Devin from the first book, probably because he reminds me Daniel from Fallen. As it seems I am one of the few people who still like him. Team Devin! I had accepted thought that Asher was going to be the one for Skye after what happened. I thought the triangle did not exist anymore. I was so wrong. The author seemed to have a different opinion. And now I have hope again. Skye loves Asher but she can't erase Devin from her heart and mind.

I am 99% sure that Asher is hiding something and has an ulterior motive. I don't doubt his feelings but maybe his motivation a little. I can't place the reason exactly but I hope a little that I am wrong.

The pace was the same as the Beautiful dark slow first but in the end the hell broke loose.

It has been almost ten years since I devoured A Beautiful Dark, and finally, I had the chance to return to this world with A Fractured Light. The narrative weaved in helpful mini-recaps that refreshed my memory without feeling clunky or repetitive.

The story itself kicked off at a satisfying pace – not too slow to drag, but not so fast that I missed the details. Asher's appearances always made my heart skip a beat.. Clearly I'm still into him after all these years

Cassie and Skye's bond warmed my heart, but Cassie's reaction to Skye's come back felt slightly idealistic for a friendship, I guess I expected her to rage rather than forgive immediately.

To me, the real magic lies in the romance between Skye and Asher. Their connection is undeniable, beautifully written, and left me yearning for a love as real and passionate as theirs.

This book definitely left me heavy with emotions that I'll need a short break before reading the last book of this trilogy I'm really not ready for this series to end

This was an amazing story that picks up right after the cliffhanger ender of book one. I loved the control that Skye gets over her powers and the closeness that she is feeling for Asher, but she also is feeling distance from her friends because she can't tell them the truth and it hurts. Then she finds out that her Aunt Jo is a rogue and has known all along and she herself has been trying to keep Skye safe. She is also having visions which the only person she can talk to about is the person who tried to kill her. The ending is another whirlwind of eyeopeners with Raven losing her wings, Devin jumping to the rebellion, Skye healing Raven's wings (which turn out to be silver) and gaining her own in the process (also silver). Asher assumes she will then join him and she says she can't, Raven then joins her along with Ian who she thinks might be a rogue. All this happens in the sight of Dan and Cassie. All I can say is WoW and when is the next book going to be out!!

Can I just start by saying wowwwww! This one was way better than the first one and now I’m super excited to read the final book. Let’s just say Skye has really stepped up her game with her powers, finally coming to understand herself and I love it. Her friends are great and finally are pulled into the loop. And like I say on a lot of reviews I do, I like some romance but I’m really into the action. And while Skye knows she loves Asher but still has Devin on the brain, she makes the decision to be her own person and gosh I’m so happy for this ending even though her and Ashers hearts are breaking in the process. One thing I will say for sure is I really wish Devin would have went to her side, hmmm surprise, like Raven has. Can’t wait for what’s in store for the next book!

Definitely not my favorite. But I have to remind myself this is YA. I definitely felt the pull of dark and light. Which one with she choose blah blah cliche I know. It felt like nothing happened in this one between the first couple chapters and the last 10 pages.

I definitely called the ending. It’s obvious she’s not part of either and has powers for both which means… silver. Something different altogether.

I wish Asher would get his head out of his ass and understand that it doesn’t need to be one or the other but maybe that’ll change in the next one. Who knows.
