If you like riddles and problem solving fun then this is for you. Some of the riddles I knew and some were new to me! Either way they were fun to try and solve... I know “nerd alert”!! But join me and see how entertaining they can be!!
Not a terrible collection. I worked through most of the riddles, but not all of them.
My biggest critique is simply that too many of the riddles presented in this book are simply modified versions of previous riddles. Sure, they are different, but when I am presented with a scenario that is, essentially, the same as four other riddles that I've already solved (perhaps another person being added or another stipulation thrown into the mix)... It does become a bit stale.
A few of the riddles could be worded better as well... Not that they are unsolvable in their current formulation, but a few aren't wholly clear until you've worked through them and fill in the blanks, so to speak.
Worth a read? If you're really into riddles, of course. Otherwise, this could easily be passed over in favor of better alternatives.
This is an excellent collection of riddles and brain teasers that range in difficulty from very easy to very hard. A few of them are twists on classic puzzles such as getting a Fox, a chicken and a bag of seed across the river when you can only transport one item at a time. No special skills are required to solve them such as math skills. The biggest requirements is patience, as many of them will make you think for quite awhile. I wasn't always patient enough and if you read the book on an ereader the links to the answers make finding them out easy, and then you can quickly jump back to the book for the next puzzle. Excellent collection that anyone will enjoy.
I wish to thank Mr. Guido for providing a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
This was an interesting collection of brain teasers, although I gave to admit I could not solve many of them. There were also a few I gave up on in trying to grasp the given solution. Sometimes it felt redundant with the hats on the heads, but overall it was fun and thought provoking.
Fun book of riddles to solve with the family. I enjoyed the fact that a lot of the riddles were new to me (really surprising, as I do tons of riddles!), but I have 3 complaints:
1. The riddles are roughly in order of difficulty, but there are many exceptions. It's a little awkward to skip some and try to go back and find them later because they're on the same page as much easier riddles.
2. The wording of certain riddles is misleading/ambiguous, which is frustrating at times. I want the challenge to be solving the riddle logically, not me misinterpreting the question in the first place.
3. Although I said above that a lot of riddles were new to me, some of these riddles are very similar to each other and feel formulaic. And this complaint ties in to #1 because some of these riddles are many pages apart, which makes even less sense - is it to hide that they're similar, since it'd be too noticeable if they were presented consecutively?
Overall, I really liked this collection. Every problem I had with this book could have been fixed had a good editor looked it over, reworded certain questions, and moved some riddles around. My favorite riddles were the rope-burning one and the horse-racing one.
Note: There are no word play riddles; they're purely logical or use simple math. Absolutely no prerequisite for math skills, so if you think you'll need complicated math to find the solution of the riddle, it means you're looking at it the wrong way.
And one last thing: these riddles are meant for adults, not children. Obviously there's no inappropriate content, but they're meant for challenging you logically and aren't "fun" in the traditional sense (no puns, jokes, or "fun" characters/stories). It was perfect for my family of 4, college-educated adults.
• probably heard before • seem really obscure • could figure out if you think for a minute • ditto, but several minutes • need paper and pencil • “Wait, this requires a mathematical principle I’ve never learned.”
It might not be this author’s fault, but a few of them left you feeling cheated when you read the solution because the parameters of the problem left out pieces of information that would have eliminated serious rabbit trails.
Also, a few seem like repeats, e.g., figure out this logic problem with 3 pieces, (flip ahead 10 pages), now follow the same principle with 5 pieces! Could’ve left out the latter.
Or maybe I’m just an idiot, and this book wasn’t meant for me. The longer ones are definitely good if you know you’re gonna spend a long time on the toilet, such as if I’ll leave it to your imagination.
This book desperately needed a decent editor! It read like a print-out of someone's self published blog, not "The Greatest Collection of Riddles & Brain Teasers." There were a lot or riddles that I was already familiar with, but the wording was often muddled and confusing. There was also far too much repetition! Either pick a theme and stick with it, or actually incorporate variety.
I had high hopes for this book since I generally love riddles and brain teasers. Overall, the riddles were generally pretty good, which is why I added two stars to what it would have otherwise earned. I was really disappointed with how poorly this book was written. I felt like I was reading a clickbait article.
This book was frustrating. I really enjoy actual riddles that require you to think outside the box. After reading through the first several pages, it began to seem as though the “riddles” were actually just mathematical word problems. Ratios, geometry, volume... I ended up feeling like I was taking a math exam I hadn’t studied for.
Knock, knock! Who's there? Well, this is NOT that kind of riddle book. I would describe it with the words in the subtitle: 'Brain Teasers.' As such, it was not exactly what I expected...or, frankly, wanted. My brain hurts!
Very nice volume with lots of fun riddles. Some classic ones were modifications of old puzzles, still interesting and challenging to solve. The book is for anyone who loves cute logical challenges. One of the weaknesses is that several problems are ambiguously worded. At times you have to figure out what really the problem is about before even started solving it.
