this is the very first book for me to understand more about PMO

I can feel that the author did have practical PMO experiences and the learnings are reflected in the book

What is value adding pmo

1. consolidation
2.pmo manager provide tools and methodology
3. Value adding pmo

Every non value adding pmo deem to fail

“A PMO creates value through assisting the organization decide where to invest its resources for the optimal return on investments. Tools, methodology, techniques, processes are all nice to have, however they do not constitute an objective in themselves.”

It's poor... Nothing to do with agile, and not really the best advice when it comes to implementing PMO's.

All this does is repeat Kotters change management approach, and the author blatantly mentions and advises this in the book (so you might as well buy Kotters book), then the author goes on to advise adding value and constant evaluating and changing where the PMO that adds value.

One thing that annoys PMs is PMOs constantly changing what is required. One thing PMs like to ensure what is being asked for adds value. This doesn't win over the people as Kotter would advise.

The author suggests not being hung up about process, but in reality this is great if the PMs are highly capable, and in lesser capable organisations, more structure helps; just like in a manufacturing production line.. Pragmatic process is about best practice that delivers a great product! (You improve the process based on lessons learned)

I've been around PMO's for 15 years, and It's for this reason that my view is the author doesn't show depth of experience or knowledge in implementing PMOs

Was hoping for a primer on Agile PMOs but this book is just one long rant about dysfunctional and inefficient PMOs. With hardly any examples, it's too vague to be of help to anyone. I'm glad it was a free offering.

When I started this book, I felt like I was reading a foreign language because I had no idea what the author was talking about. A little background or introduction about the subject would have helped immensely instead of just launching straight into the discussion.
