[Siren Everlasting Classic Erotic Alternative Cowboy Romance, M/M, HEA] Life is really simple, but we insist on making it difficult. Cody Wylde is living proof that just because he is easygoing, doesn't mean his life is any less complicated. He is falling in love with a man who has arrested him more times than he can't count and finds that giving his heart isn't as easy as it sounds. Not when Sheriff Boone Bennett is the most problematical man he's ever met. Boone has his hands full with his job and his sister's messy marriage. He isn't sure why he is flirting with Cody or why he is leading the man on. He just knows there is something about the youngest Wylde brother that sparks a fire inside of him. The best proof of love is trust. Both Boone and Cody refuse to give an inch and soon find that being stubborn doesn't work when falling in love. Tragedy teaches the two to appreciate what they have with each other at the Wylde Cattle and Guest Ranch. ** A Siren Erotic Romance

Hmmm…well, this was a mixed bag.

Note that this is the first book in the series that I've read. That said, it vacillates between Cody running from Boone and towards him. In between, there's such melodrama going on: people beat up, machine accidents, people shot at, people shot, etc. Essentially, every secondary character has some major issue/trauma going on. Pretty high body count and hope they have health insurance 'cause they'll lose the ranch paying medical bills the way things are going.

Now, if all that had been dialed back about five clicks I would have enjoyed the budding romance between Cody and Boone. Fourteen years difference in age makes for some interesting points which are addressed well. Cody is wild, young, impetuous and has mood swings that just make Boone want to shake him. I liked that Boone realized that he couldn't expect Cody to act like him, that some of it was just going to come with age.

On the other hand, the hot/cold --> true love aspect of their relationship was a bit tiring. That and the all in before having test driven the car. *wink*

It was sweet and lovey dovey and just a bit of a miss for me. *shrugs*

The time jumps were really annoying and I felt like so much information was skipped over. Sometimes it felt like I skipped a chapter when in reality it was just a time jump with no explanation.
We didn't even get to see how the whole family reacted to their relationship. There was also just way too many things going on in this book. Shootings, death, random shit that felt out of place. I feel like Hagen should have cut half of that out. Even though the situations were serious, they felt so glossed over. I would have rather have fewer angsty moments if the author would actually fleshed out the situations more.

So.. it may seem like I hate this book after all of my rantings. But I actually really enjoyed it lol. I don't think many people are expecting a literary masterpiece when reading this series, you just know what to expect. I expect to be entertained and distracted for a few hours. This book did its job.

Well, I though Cody will be the one who pursuing Boone not the other way around. It came as shock to me but I'm good.

I really enjoyed reading this book, love to see how Boone patiently waiting for Cody to make a move and even when he gave Boone hot and cold reactions and Cody finally come to terms that he loves Boone and want to spend his life with him.

All four books in this series were very well written and full of messages and real-world-issues. As an avid fan of Lynn Hagen's paranormal series, I was more than pleasantly surprised by these books and the complete 180° shift from her usual themes. One thing that does remain consistent in her writing is the real-world-issues such as dysfunctional families, abuse and drugs. This time she pushed things further since this series lacked the magic of the paranormal series, adding in disease, death, and suicide.
Of course, for all its glitter, there were also some nagging issues that I noticed (mostly because I tend to nitpick).
There was one hiccup in the timeline in this book where Ben's "wife" was mentioned way too soon... before the actual scene.
My other issues are mostly my opinion and I should try to keep in mind that this is fiction and just deal with it. I found the frequency of the family in the hospital and the drama in just one year, not to mention all four brothers falling in love and getting married just a tad bit unbelievable.
The parallel storylines was an interesting concept, however, I think only the two new hires (1&3) really made sense as happening together. Books 2 & 4 were both old acquaintances that just happen to get the hint at the same time as the other two. It kind of tipped the realistic scale. But hey, that's fiction for you. ; )

OUT of the BLUE the sheriff pulls Cody over and starts flirting with him. Where is the build up? Where is the gradual realization?

Cody is 21 to his 35 = 14 yrs difference. Pushing the age difference for me. Plus I would have to research it to find out but I thought Boone grew up with the Wyldes? Didn't he go to school with them? Perhaps the 2 oldest? But Cody says he's only known him for five years.

I just can't make myself waste time on this when I KNOW I'm not going to enjoy it.. that fast at 8% in.

I enjoyed the series and this one may have been my favorite. My only complaint was having to keep going back through the same time frame on each book, but just from a different perspective. I would have liked to actually move forward to future events. Still a nice group of books with sexy cowboys.

Even though it kept jumping back to time frames from the first 3 books. I really enjoyed this book. I had been looking forward to Cody and Boones relationship, they were perfect for one another and it was well worth the wait.

I enjoyed this book more than the last two because it didn't seem as if I was reading the same book over and over again.
