Candara's Gift is the first book in the Kingdom of Gems trilogy, which is a fun, exhilarating fantasy adventure series. Although the book is normally classed as a children's book for ages 9-11 or 9-12, the books are actually loved by both children and adults alike!

----------------------------------------
Life in the Kingdom of Gems is shattered when a stranger enters the kingdom at night. He has an evil desire to conquer the kingdom and steal the magical Candara Gems.

But he meets unexpected resistance in the form of Prince Seph and Princess Amalek. Together with several companions they find that they are the only ones who are still free to fight...
-----------------------------------------

You can be rest assured that this is one of those children's books that will keep you entertained and enthralled for the entire length of the book and that you will be eager to continue reading the other books in the trilogy.

I'm not in the age group that this book is aimed at, but I do teach 8 and 9 year olds, so read a great many books aimed at them. It's a shame that this book had quite a few problems, because in many ways the writing wasn't bad and I did want to finish the adventure, so bought the next two books - which leads me to my first complaint.

The book is really only a third of a book. I understand why the author has done this - to sell more - but it was a bit annoying and I felt slightly short-changed.

My second problem with all three books in the series was the inept editing and proofreading. I know it's difficult, but once the book is out in the big wide Kindle world and people are noticing the mistakes, it's a very easy thing to take it off-line and change it.

My third problem with the story, which covers the three books, was that it was too complex. Characters get introduced almost at random and I wondered if they just provided padding to get the word-count up for 3 books. Again, this is such a shame, as hidden within too much going on was a very appealing story for this age group.

Having said all that, I did enjoy a lot about the books and I think children would too. They probably wouldn't notice the problems I had with the books, but on the poor editing I do believe we should offer our children the best examples of writing.

I have actually met Jasper Cooper in person and have the trilogy of books with his name signed in them. A very typical plot of a dark wizard wanting to take over the kingdom. Very good vocab. Would recommend for ages 10+

I read it in primary school, so I don't remember much apart from talking animals, silver and golden unicorns, a flying owl, porridge, owl gets injured, lizard evil thing, cute dog, ummmmmmmmmmmm. Pretty much the book, I began reading the second one and my friend informed me there are also elephants and la la la but I didn't finish it. I might consider giving it a chance again and perhaps, if I like it, I'll purchase the third book.

I met the author and bought the book from him, got it signed, of course he spelt my name wrong so wasted a copy and still gave me another and did it correctly.

As much as I love it, this time I found I didn't enjoy it as much as the last time.

It was great in fact I think that it had a lot of the real fun in it. If you’re looking for a book that is a lot of fantasy then I would recommend this book to you. It’s not that scary so I think it would be like to go for 9 to 12-year-olds about. Now I am a 12-year-old reading this book. It’s a great book from my perspective, I would recommend for ages in the middle school or high grade school I say it would be great for my age but also for other ages in fact but I think 9 to 12-year-old will enjoy the most and I loved it so I’ll give it five stars.

Gripping, creative, and hopeful

Very clear lines of good and evil. Too many descriptions of evil for my taste, so I skipped over a few when reading aloud. My son thoroughly enjoyed the book and is excited for the next one.
