USA Today bestselling author Kathryn Shay continues her beloved Hidden Cove series with CHASING THE FIRE, three unforgettable novellas about firefighters.

Fully Involved: Lisa Beth Duncan, firefighter and paramedic, swore she’d never allow her ex-husband into her heart again. But when he moves to Hidden Cove and pursues her, she finds herself breaking her own rules.

Kathryn Shay is a lifelong writer. At fifteen, she penned her first 'romance,' a short story about a female newspaper reporter in New York City and her fight to make a name for herself in a world of male journalists - and with one hardheaded editor in particular. Looking back, Kathryn says she should have known then that writing was in her future. But as so often happens, fate sent her detouring down another path.
Fully intending to pursue her dream of big city lights and success in the literary world, Kathryn took every creative writing class available at the small private women's college she attended in upstate New York. Instead, other dreams took precedence. She met and subsequently married a wonderful guy who'd attended a neighboring school, then completed her practice teaching, a requirement for the education degree she never intended to use. But says Kathryn, "I fell in love with teaching the first day I was up in front of a class, and knew I was meant to do that."
Kathryn went on to build a successful career in the New York state school system, thoroughly enjoying her work with adolescents. But by the early 1990s, she'd again made room in her life for writing. It was then that she submitted her first manuscript to publishers and agents. Despite enduring two years of rejections, she persevered. And on a snowy December afternoon in 1994, Kathryn Shay sold her first book to Harlequin Superromance.
Since that first sale, Kathryn has written twenty-one books for Harlequin, nine mainstream contemporary romances for the Berkley Publishing Group, and two online novellas, which Berkley then published in traditional print format.
Kathryn has become known for her powerful characterizations - readers say they feel they know the people in her books - and her heart-wrenching, emotional writing (her favorite comments are that fans cried while reading her books or stayed up late to finish them). In testament to her skill, the author has won five RT BookClub Magazine Reviewers Choice Awards, three Holt Medallions, two Desert Quill Awards, the Golden Leaf Award, and several online accolades.
Even in light of her writing success, that initial love of teaching never wavered for Kathryn. She finished out her teaching career in 2004, retiring from the same school where her career began. These days, she lives in upstate New York with her husband and two children. "My life is very full," she reports, "but very happy. I consider myself fortunate to have been able to pursue and achieve my dreams."
Enjoyed the 3 stories, loved the interaction and involvement between the families and their support of each other. Learned a lot about the way the professions effect the entire family - not just the wife-husband-children, but parents, siblings and their families. It’s as if the profession becomes a community of its own. As usual, Kathryn’s ability to create real, caring people, who bring histories and need to overcome their issues, make her books so enjoyable. I learn something new wirth each book I read
Three novellas in the Hidden Cove series, these stories are about new characters in the HCFD. The three are diferent, and my personal taste ran to the second and third stories in the book. They represent different romantic tropes: one the former love who comes to the small town to rekindle love, one covers the man who considers himself unable to love, and the third concerns the childhood sweethearts still together who face a crisis. These are safe and well done in Shay's hands.
Once again this author has blown me away with the characters in these three books. Love the fore scenes that make you think you are right there. Narration was superb. Loving this series.
Chasing The Fire: Hidden Cove Firefighters Series Book Six is by Kathryn Shay. It is a collection of three novellas of firefighters in Hidden Cove. The novellas could all be stretched into a full book with a little more action and suspense. They are all three so good that Kathryn should have done that. I especially liked book three, Flashover. I laughed and cried my way through it. This book of novellas is a must to read.
I was attracted to this story through its sexy cover. I then read the synopsis and knew I couldn’t resist reading it. It being a 1Night Stand story I knew it would be some quick and provocative for me to read.
Before we even get to that little excerpt we are introduced to Alyssa and Nate and the sexual chemistry that pours out of them can almost drown you. I have to say that Nate quickly became my favorite of the duo. The commanding, no-nonsense attitude that he has towards Alyssa is what I think helps make their interactions so sensual. Where you can see Nate’s playfulness in his everyday dealings in his job, his seriousness when he is in the hotel with Alyssa is exhilarating. With Alyssa’s character is it so nice to see her let go of all that control. To just let life happen and see where it takes her, I guess that is part of being a police officer for so long.
It is actually amazing and enjoyable how D.C. Stone wrote the story. How she was able to fill it with so much sexual tension, and steamy times without drawing it out.
I truly think that if you can get your hands on this story you won’t regret it.
I'm in a spot in my life where things are really tough right now. I love to escape into Kathryn Shay's books. She is an amazing author. You can NEVER go wrong by reading her. Her firefighter series is amazing and VERY hard to put down, not to mention very humbling. Kudos to you Kat!!!
