Just a little mini-review because it's just a little mini-story. I don't know why I keep trying these serial stories... Oh wait, I do...The first parts are free!
51 pages. It's like a couple of chapters worth and not very satisfying. The story itself had potential but too much of my reading time was spent picking out typos and tense slippage and wishing ill luck on the characters as they were tstl.
Ok, so imagine this - You're a guy and and you and two of your spooked guy friends are being chased down a mountain track by a pack of zombies. There are probably a couple dozen of them and they're only 5 minutes behind you on the trail. You stop for a second to catch your breath and a stray zombie stumbles out of nowhere and knocks you flat and tries to eat you. Your friend takes a hatchet to it and eventually stoves it's head in. It's all good but when you get up off the ground you notice there's zombie gunk on the back of your jeans.. Oh noes!. It's stinky and messy!
Do you:
a) Say "Whatev's" and keep running down the mountain because you just wasted 4 minutes of your 5 minute lead while fighting off the stray one and you REALLY need to pick it up and get going? Or: b) Strip off your pack, your hiking boots, your jeans and your socks, root around in your pack for clean jeans and barely get your new pair of jeans on before you see the minute lead that you had on the zombies has actually now dwindled to about 10 seconds which results in you taking off barefoot to complete the last 9 miles of the mountain hike to the bottom?
Our MC chose poorly. He went with option 'b'.
Yeah, I know... Give me a break!
It just goes downhill from there (no pun intended) and I stopped caring about how stupid it was because I knew I only had about 5 more minutes until it was finished.
It'll come as no shock to hear that I won't be buying any further into the series.
Starts out fast and furious with backseat mayhem reminiscent of Pulp Fiction and ends with a road trip to destiny...or the next town over, called Maybridge. Four city slickers go camping/hunting for a week in the woods and discover that the world around them has become zombified. This is the story of their escape from the woods. Nicely done.
This book has all the element of a good story. It is essentially basically zombie 101 with nothing new to add, so far. The story grips you immediately with action but the dialogue between the character could use work.
So this book is only about 50 pages and honestly it's not much of a story.
It's just some guys on a camping trip and some zombies show up and they run through the woods to get away from them. Other than that there's not much story. Plus the author seemed like he was trying too hard to make it sound like the guys were all "bros" by using words that you see in all these buddy comedy movies.
The story does get two stars in my opinion because there are no spelling or grammatical errors that I can see, which to me shows that the author cared enough to proof read it. Also the cover looks pretty cool as well :-)
You're not missing anything special if you pass this one by.
Grabs you from start although seemed to be in the middle of story. Still good read, action from the go. Short on character development. Two additional books included. Same quick read and action, but different topics. Check em out, they are free.
I love zombie stories in general and they are a nice break from the romances I usually read, so I've been picking them up quite a bit lately. This one was very short - too short - but very good. It was well written, good plot and I loved the location it started in.
The grammar was good also (a big issue for me). Just a few errors and nothing major. On a 1 - 10 scale (1 being the least amount of errors, 10 being, "wtf are they talking about?") I give it a 2.
I look forward to the next book and definitely recommend this one for zombie apocalypse story lovers.
I really enjoyed this freebie (Amazon)! Well written characters. Mr. Paine does a great job of having each of the three characters react to unfolding events in individual and unique ways! I would elaborate, but I don't want to spoil the story. The preview does a fine job of explaining!
I recommend this to anyone who like Post-Apoc, Zombie, End of the world, and the average type person surviving in really screwed up situation type stories.
I look forward to seeing if our survivors can make it, how they will hold themselves together, and of course finding out what is going on!
VERY short read but well written in a way only a guy could understand but women will love because they know as I do this is the real way guys react in bad situations. When you take a few guys, yes these are guys not the all lovey dovey fakey guys but real more like guys guys and you throw them into the end of the world what will they do? yeah they will be guys, lots of cussing, hurting and joking but truly get down to business when needed.
Not all that well written. Very inconsistent. Roger is the most squeamish, then Roger was never squeamish.
Also, I'm not a fan of TOUGH GUY GRRR. So boring when the main character is oh so awesome that he's the only one with a gun and a brain. The only one who has some control over his emotions. And this guy runs for hours into the woods without wearing any shoes.
Yeah.
Right.
Not impressed, but it was a short story. Gonna read the next and see where it goes.
This drew me in fast. It was short though. I want to read volume 2.
This virus, from infection to change, only takes a few hours. The three uninfected characters are in the mountains when a friend gets bit. Each handles the situation differently. It is then a race down the mountain and, hopefully, safety.
It definitely piqued my interest. This story drops you right smack in the middle of the action, and it feels more like a quick glimpse in a world overrun by Zombies than a full story in itself. I am assuming the rest of the volumes give more depth and information about the universe. I would have liked more.
A cliff hanger unfortunately, but well worth the read. The last thing you expect to encounter on a camping trip is a horde of zombies. What do you do? You run like the wind and pr ay you're faster than them.
Really enjoyed this first episode. Gritty, the characters were likeable, the zombies realistic, and the setting easy to visualise. I’m off to find the next episode!
