Hoooooly shit! What the hell just happened?!

This vol. is where season 1 of anime ended, so I didn't expect to be surprised, because I've seen first season, but boy was I wrong! This contained one chapter after the anime ended, and it was just so fucking mind-blowing. I don't know why didn't they make another episode with this last chapter (but I guess that I'm grateful that they didn't, because what a cliffhanger would that be!).

This volume is definitely my favorite so far. Mikasa continues on being the badass character ever (imo, the scene when she was fighting the female titan was best scene in the whole series so far), while Erin continues on being annoying as hell (Am I the only one who finds him annoying? I really hope I'm not).

This is easily becoming one of my favorite comics, if not my favorite. Can't wait to see where will the story go from here.

Despite my favorite character being dead, I think this is my favorite volume in this series so far. This volume finally caught up to where I stopped watching the anime so it's starting to become all new territory for me. There were lots of twists and turns right at the end that I wasn't expecting, so I can't wait to read the next volumes to get some answers. I only own two more volumes of this series though so my bank account is about to be mad at me for buying more volumes...

Spoilers

I'm finally caught up with the current episodes of the Anime with the end of this volume.

I don't think it's just me, but I think the art has improved a vast amount since this series started.

I liked the subterfuge and the big reveal about the female titan. The story is moving along at a very nice clip, and like all good manga, it's impossible to put down for long. :)

Really good, full of twist and turns and moments that made you go WHAT!
I think that when “good people” like you take control, then that’s when it’s all over.

How is there corruption in a civilization constantly teetering at the brink of annihilation, I mean the real struggle of the fittest to survive would instil some kind of discipline in the military police I would think.

I do think we’re worthless and we’re definitely evil - well do not put that in your year end evaluation form Annie

Wow this world view of Armin is so dark: A “good person”…? I… don’t really like that phrase. I mean… That’s just what you call someone who acts in a way that’s beneficial to you.

Armin is more observant and tactical than I imagined.
Love Levi his reaction: In other words we don’t have any proof, but we’re going to do it anyway

How are you two able to fight?
No Eren, how are you not able to is the real question

Humanity is just toyed with it feels in this part, it opens up so many additional questions.

I’ll ask him the same thing: what’s more important, staying silent? Or staying alive?

EN This volume kicks off with a truly perplexing moment—where on earth did the female giant come from? Is she somehow connected to the one outside in the previous volume? It's been a while since I last read it, but even after revisiting, it still feels like there's a strange narrative leap. Maybe it’s just me.

That said, it’s a solid volume overall, striking a good balance between character dialogue and action.

Also, a secret is revealed!

--

So we find out who the female titan is in this volume. Thank you for not dragging out that reveal over multiple books.

Also, we learn that Soylent Green is people!

Just what is going on here?

So many questions after this volume.

Ok, so lots of action in this one. Quite a few plot twists too, especially at the end. There was so much satisfaction for me, but also some unresolved issues that will hopefully be taken care of in the next few volumes. Things are getting crazy and we are delving deeper into this world and how it works. I honestly have no idea how far this is gonna go, but I can't wait to find out. On to Volume 9 :)

Story
For any fans of the anime that just had to know what happens next, this is where to start if you don't want to read the whole thing. Most of this book covers the end of the anime but the last episode and a half were all new to me.

Overall reading this has left me with even more questions than I had from the anime however, so I can't get my hands on the next few volumes fast enough.

Artwork
I'm going to be redundant and say while it's improving with each volume it still doesn't hold up as well as anime.

Key moments in this book for me( which are apparently a lot bcz this book was PACKED ):

Female titan identity revealed -

"Do I really look like a good person to you ?"
"A good person ? I dont really like that phrase , I mean ...Thats just what you call someone who acts in a way thats beneficial to you. I dont think anyone can act in a way thats beneficial to everyone. Even if you're being helpful to one person , you might still be a bad person to someone else "

-Wise words from the wise Armin . These words really stuck to me from the first time I heard them . And when u think of them in context to S4 ....

"So if youre not going to go along with this plan that would make you a bad person to ME"
"Fine,Im in"

-Daaaaangg from THAT early on ?

Eren : "We just have to hope they dont find out Jean's standing in for me. But i dont think it'll take long , I mean ..he and I look nothing alike"
Armin: "Dont worry . You have similar builds and terrifying glares"
Annie: "Like villains"
Eren : " I dont have a horse face like him !!

- The origin of Jeans nickname :😂 Horse Face 🙌

Mikasa : "Enough . I cant listen to this anymore " *Brandishes her weapon * "Ill slice you to shreds all over again"
"What can we do ? The world is cruel "

-🎶 SEKAI WO ZANKOKU DAAAA🎶 Mikasa being badass and not hesitating like everyone else . WHOOP WHOOP

Hange san : "Why are there
Priest : *Quiet even when threatend with death . currently the only thing stopping him from toppling to death is hange's hand *
Hange san : So you have chosen death . Die !
Priest : *feels hange letting go and starts to shake *
Hange : * throws him back on the wall and save shim from herself * " hahaha just a lil joke !!

-??????? Bro Hange .... I LOVE YOU

English review: I think I should start by saying that the last four volumes I’ve read have all received five stars. At this point, the story is absolutely phenomenal, and the world-building and character development have been executed brilliantly.
That doesn’t mean the characters are static or that we know everything about the world of Attack on Titan—far from it. In fact, the mystery only deepens. However, we now understand everyone’s motivations and how the political class operates, as well as how society is structured. In short, Hajime Isayama has hit his stride. The pacing is excellent, the story is fast-moving and suspenseful, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Since the story has advanced significantly, starting with this review, I’ll openly discuss Eren’s special power and other elements revealed in the first four volumes. I won’t beat around the bush: Eren can transform into a Titan. For now, he can’t fully control his powers, but he’s gradually learning how they work, with help from a new character, Hange.
At first, Hange seems out of place in the grim world of "Attack on Titan". The character comes across as over-the-top and ridiculous, almost like comic relief. But after a few volumes, you realize Hange is actually a brilliant character who just thinks differently from everyone else. (Since I’m up to date with the anime, I can confidently say Hange is in the top 10 best characters in the series.)
Back to the main point: Eren can transform into a Titan. This is the moment some characters—and readers, too, if they’ve been paying attention—realize that the Armored Titan and Colossal Titan are also humans who can transform into Titans. (I didn’t, because apparently binge-watching an entire anime in under a week doesn’t leave much time for analysis). This revelation has enormous implications, but more on that after the next narrative arc.
Returning to this arc, a new intelligent Titan, like Eren, is introduced: the Female Titan. We discover that this Titan is someone we already know, which means the enemies are infiltrated within the military. From here, the story gets increasingly brilliant with each volume.
While reading this volume, I realized that this arc contains the only moment in the entire series (so far) where Levi and Mikasa fight together, directly, against a common enemy. It’s an epic moment that, for me, surpasses even Eren’s battle against the Female Titan.
With this volume, I’ve finished the chapters adapted in the first season of the anime, and I can say that the anime is better in some ways: the animation is superior to Isayama’s artwork, the soundtrack is incredible, and the voice acting is absolutely extraordinary. Even so, the story is so good that I’m experiencing it for the second time with just as much excitement as when I didn’t know what was coming.

Nope. Nope. Nope. Can't deal. Nope. Did this volume just happen? Is Isayama trying to give me a heart attack with this stuff? Is Mikasa single and ready to mingle cos I'm down for that.

Did I just read about Did I just read that

I love this series but I don't think my heart can take any more dramatic plot twists like those, y'all. But I really, really love Mikasa and Armin right now. I'm sorry for calling you a dingus, Armin, you are good people.

Slowing down a bit with this now.

The action sequences do get really confusing, and the story jumps around a bit so I do find it a bit hard to follow. The big reveal of this volume came out of nowhere for me so it was a fun surprise, but at the same time I felt like I was really missing the tension that should have led up to it.

The story is still intriguing and hosts plenty of questions to keep you interested, but I'm starting to get a little frustrated by it all.

Will continue the series, but might take a break for a while I think.

The manga has some pacing issues, I think. It moves a little too fast - new shocking scenes and big reveals in near-every chapter - leaving little time for the characters to breathe and be themselves, and for us to get to know them better. A lot of the revelations fall flat because we don't really know the people involved all that well: there's very little of the treachery I feel, because I'm not betrayed myself. Then we get flashbacks and other character developing moments after the fact, but the moment is already gone.

So far, the story's hovering around the 3.5-star mark. If the pacing were better, it could easily go up to 4 or higher.

Wow, what a read that was! There are a lot of plot twists in this one and big reveals at the end. They are totally insane and the action is heavy. There are also some unresolved issues in this volume which I hope will be answered in the future volumes. Some reveals were really shocking and we get a more in depth understanding of the world this story takes place in. I cannot wait to read the next volume now. All of my money is going to be thrown at the entire series now and I don't regret it one bit.
