Every single thing I am about to say about this book in the Hunt for Jack Reacher series can be written about every single book in the Hunt for Jack Reacher series. Because they are barely books. And they are identical in almost every conceivable way.
The plot is non-existent, pacing is ridiculously poor (stop talking about Otto’s fear of flying, stop talking about overwrought and useless exposition about nothing that actually advances the story or even seems remotely pertinent), and the author is drastically out of touch with reality or even a good sense of plausible suspension of disbelief. Often times the author gets stuck and so creates a monologue via drone: describing events that are not possible to be chained together because this author is a technophobe who doesn’t understand technology let alone surveillance capabilities. Characters are cardboard caricatures who are so flat as to be offensive to one-dimensional beings.
Do we really need to hear about “FBI Special Agent Kim Otto,” written in that formal sense, over and over again? No. The banter between Otto and Gaspar is ridiculously inept. NO ONE talks like that. Even the characters would get tired of it if not forced into this tripe by the author. Plot holes and drastic leaps of blind and stupid faith are required. Oh, minor pet peeve: there is no determination between chapters other than “well, looks like 2.5-5 pages! Time for a new chapter!” They literally happen mid-conversation. Why? No conceivably logical or useful reason.
And please stop saying “Otto looked at her Seiko.” Why name-drop that watch? Continually? And why is every upscale neighborhood (or even appearance in later books) ALWAYS referred to as “tony”? Dear author, expand your vocabulary and stop falling back on cheap gimmicks.
I enjoy the Jack Reacher series. I wonder what Lee Child was thinking when he agreed to this. This series, however, is a blight on the opus that is Jack Reacher. The only reason I keep reading it is because I want to see how it slides into the REAL Jack Reacher books, which is—I suspect—why other people also read this crap, painfully inflating sales and ratings beyond what this author should naturally receive.
So I’ll end with a couple of questions:
* Who the hell edited these books? They should be fired. And banned from the industry. Twice.
* What kind of blackmail material does this author have on Lee Child? This cannot stand.
* I seriously question the publishing house that put this out. Unless they were simply cashing in on the Jack Reacher universe, which would make sense if they were. But this is like comparing one of the top films of all time to the lowest-rent public television broadcast done by two drunk friends who secretly hate each other but only do the public television to outdo the other one. And they’re both illiterate.

Intense story. I admit to having issues following all the subtle clues at times, but still enjoyed the. main characters and plot. I want (intend?), to continue the series.

Capri takes readers on their second adventure alongside FBI Agents Otto and Gaspar, as they search for the elusive Jack Reacher. Following up on a lead, they head into the hamlet of New Hope, aptly named, where Reacher is said to have been seen. When they arrive, it is as barren as can be. When local police thank them for answering a call surrounding a motor vehicle accident, things take a turn for all involved. What looks like a simple head-on collision soon turns into a hot trail to find the gridless Reacher. But how does he play into all of this and why is another man left dead and a woman beaten? Otto and Gaspar must piece it together, or face another dead end.
Capri has piqued my interest to read Child's entire REACHER series. Who is this man and why does he live so secretively? What is the significance of 1997 and where will be appear next? Capri weaves great teasers in her short stories, choosing the other side of the coin, the FBI, to depict some of the happenings in the larger Reacher story. I would expect readers of the series will revel in these little tales and newbies, like me, will find an interest in what the hype is all about.
Kudos Madam Capri for a second great teaser. I am eager to see what it's all about and more about Reacher, Gaspar, as well as the mysterious Otto.

Jack and Kill - a review by Rosemary Kenny
As the budding series continues, Agents Otto and Gaspar are pointed in the direction of New Hope in their hunt for vigilante of justice, Jack Reacher. A police roadblock at the site of an 'RTA' delays their arrival there, as they join the investigation which is part of an ongoing kidnap plot. How is Reacher involved? What proof is there he was a protagonist at the accident location? Who shows them this proof?
Why is Gaspar anxious about his wife's health? Where has Duffy gone and what do Otto and Gaspar do about it?
Once again the Agents are unsatisfied in their quest - the hunt for Jack goes on! Find out how in the next in series, Get Back Jack.

Too short but this is after effects of Reacher vs road rage. All the traffic here leads to wanting more in the search. Just now appearing in New Hope where will Otto and Gaspar proceed next?

A short but interesting story about the search for Reacher. Not really fleshed out much but tells a tale in a concise manner and follows no from the previous novella. The dialogue mostly seems stilted and unrealistic, especially between the two main agents. Oh, and Gaspar never did reveal the story with his wife before the story ended abruptly.
While I might have given a 3 star rating sadly I listened to the audiobook version read by Kelley Hazen who is easily one of the worst narrators I've ever had the misfortune to listen to. Flat, dull, monotonous and robotic. In many places it sounds like she's reading like a child running their fingers along under the words and stating each one separately without any sense of them belonging together. Not only that but she often breaks double syllable words into two separate words, ie: before is read as Be.Fore & Into becomes In.To, belong reads as Be.Long etc. Reminds me a little of the Artificial Speech program on my old Commodore 64 computer in the '90s, the program that came free on a magazine cover.
She also seems incapable of voicing male characters, Gaspar especially, who made me cringe every time he spoke.
As this review is for the audiobook version I can only give it one star as the narrator totally ruins it from the word go.

eBook Review - Jack and Kill - Diane Capri
Author Diane Capri's Hunt for Jack Reacher novels are mysterious, intriguing, and entertaining. This quick short story, “Jack and Kill” was very interesting. The series premise is that two FBI agents - Kim Otto and Oscar Gaspa - are given an assignment to track down Jack Reacher but become involved in subsequent cases as they carry out tracking him down, only to remain several steps behind him. It is a very clever and intriguing storyline. Jack and Kill followed the series premise and was a solid and arousing short story. The two main characters, Otto and Gaspa are imperfect FBI agents and somewhat ‘quirky’ people but likeable - they’re both very different but committed to their jobs. As this short story unfolds, Capri exposes more information about Reacher, untold in earlier Jack Reacher stories written by Lee Child. Child's endorsement of Capri’s novels is a positive indication that he supports Capri’s books and contributes some additional information about the Jack Reacher character. Capri's Jack and Kill short story has a good storyline and keeps the reader interested all the way through this quick and easy read. It is a solid standalone quickie that is worth the read, especially for Jack Reacher fans.

As I mentioned in my previous review, this short story should be read along with Book #1 and short story #1.1. While I like the format, what I don't like about Otto and Gaspar, especially Otto is that she should know better as an experienced agent to make assumptions about Jack Reacher that he is some kind of killer without any evidence or criminal history whatsoever to back up her assumptions. While Gaspar is more of the voice of reason between the two, I'd rather that approach this "hunt" more objectively and acknowledge the fact that he is a former military cop. Simply because he has been off the grid since leaving the military and they can't figure him out from his short file, does not automatically make him a criminal or enemy or so forth. They are prejudging him with nothing to go on but their own assumptions.
When I see that, I think of the last time Jack Reacher interacted with the FBI in Book #4 "Running Blind" and it was not a good experience at all for Reacher. Otto and Gaspar are exhibiting the same behaviors, so why would Reacher want any interaction with the FBI again given the previous circumstances? What Otto is forgetting is that they are NOT seeking Reacher out for a criminal investigation or any past crimes but a background check for a classified assignment if he meets the qualifications.
So far, they have nothing to suggest he has been in prison for murder or any kind of criminal history. Why is it that they assume that he is out killing people like some sort of mercenary or serial killer with zero proof to substantiate it? Otto needs to carry herself like the agent she is capable of becoming and let the evidence draw her conclusions. However, that is not the mission at all. She has no idea what her boss is seeking Reacher for and the classified assignment he is being considered for if they do find him.
At the rate these two agents are going, Reacher will always be steps ahead of them because he has been off the grid for a long time and he is found when he chooses to be found. If they do not start thinking fresh and come at this with an objective mindset, they are in for a very long hunt. If word has gotten to Reacher about Otto and Gaspar looking for him with that mindset, why would he not see them as a threat (based on his past experience with the FBI) and allow himself to be found or find out what they want? He doesn't.
I am hoping Diane Capri will move them in a different direction during the course of their character development. I am going to give it a few more books to see where it's going but if there are no changes over time within the next books I read, I will move on. I give this an ok, waiting to see if it revs up in Book #2. Stay tuned.

#1.2 in the Hunt For Reacher series. This 2012 series short by author Diane Capri is essentially a publicity puff time waster. FBI agents Otto and Gaspar are on the road to New Hope. VA tracking down a Reacher sighting. At a huge traffic blockage, the meet BATF agent Susan Duffy who shows them surveillance footage of Reacher stopping the assault on a woman involved in the accident, he gets care for the woman and walks away. End of story and Duffy takes a pee break after which she and her car disappear. Entertaining but doesn't seem relevant to the overarching story arc.

OK... these are fun... another short from this author... who's writing about hunting Reacher (why? I don't know because I didn't read the longer story #1 in the book).... But I have to ask, with Reacher (maybe for Lee Child) How does Trouble Always Find Some People... like Reacher. Of course, that condition is a wonderful gift for character based serials of fiction writers.
I once watched a new TV series which was about rescuers, and yet, no matter where these people went, they Always ran into heroic situations which Required their heroic rescue abilities. And after a few episode I got tired of that... but it doesn't seem to bother me with these longer situations Reacher seem to get into. I'm going back to read Don't Know Jack to learn how these rubes became trackers of Reacher!

49 pages. Just a continuation of Kim Otto and Carlos Caspar trying to find Reacher. They go to New Hope, VA when they come upon a rear-end fender bender where an angry man in a pick-up truck gets out of his vehicle and pulls the women out of the car, pulls a rifle out and tries to beat her. Reacher is in the back seat as a hitchhiker and gets out, head butts him. The guy falls, hits his head on the concrete and dies. Reacher just starts walking away from the scene and out of the grips of Otto and Caspar. 7 Stars (9.21 to 9.25.17)

Spring Break in Doc Ford country & the reads on the beach have been devoted to the "Hunt for Jack Reacher" series...again the novelty of the series is great, trying to piece together a file on the off-the-grid Reacher, but the stories thus far have been mundane...the "saving grace," has been the character development of the FBI agents Kim Otto and Carlos Gaspar...you'll love the characters...in this one the stumble into a high level kidnapping that's foiled by reacher...beautiful weather keeps me from griping too much!!!

My thoughts:
Same style, choppy narrative, short chapter even shorter paragraphs this time the plot is a tiny bit more captivating but not by much. More frustrating is the story leaves us hanging....This series is not worth buying but as a freebie.... but if want to read it you need to start with book #1: “Don’t Know Jack”

Ok, I gave it a 2 Star. There seems to be no endgame for why they're looking for jack Reacher. It looks like a bunch of rogue FBI Agents trying to find Jack Reacher and they don't know what they're suppose to do with him when they find him. The story plots bounce around like a ball in play on a racketball court. I was looking for more.....not even close to be the quality of the Jack Reacher Books. I bought the next story, but if it the same quality as the last two, I am done.

Kim and Gaspar seem to be okay, but what disappoints me is the fact that Ms. Capri writes a few chapters and calls it a "book" and has the temerity to charge full book price!
I have now read up to "chapter" or "book" 3 and won't bother to read further - very disappointed.

I thought the previous book in this series was short, but this one was even shorter, about half the length of the previous one. Otto and Gaspar learn that Reacher helped a damsel in distress, but they learn little more about him. Or about Susan Duffy, who claimed to be DEA in the previous book, but now is referred to as an ATF agent, and her role in their assignment, if she has one.

No Jack
FBI agents Otto and Gaspar are tasked investigation on Reacher. Reacher can’t be found. Here one day and gone the next. The agents are really frustrated because not was Reacher not located but no record exists in regards to him. Reacher is the prime example of “off the grid”.

Part of an ongoing series about two FBI agents assigned to find Jack Reacher for a supposed special forces kind of action. As I like the Jack Reacher series a lot, I will continue this series for a while. A little bit redundant each time but on to number 2. Both numbers 1.1 and 1.2 were novellas unlike number 1 which was a full size novel. Number 2 is a fully size novel.

A Nice Quick Read
Don't let the four star review fool you. I really enjoyed this novella. I felt a little confused while reading it. Almost ad if the story was a little forced. I did appreciate the ending, as well as Otto's dawning realization that perhaps Reacher isn't the bad guy she imagines him to be.

Boring and what is the sense
This story is as interesting as watching paint dry. Stupid plot to arrest Reacher after they just watch a video of him saving a victim. Good sleeping story.

Another short story on FBI's hunt for Jack Reacher. Each short story (yes less than 100 pages) provides a little more into the mystery of Jack Reacher. What is cool about this line of Jack Reacher is that Lee Child supports her ideas. Will the truth ever come out?

This was the third of Diane Capri’s Jack books that I have read. This one is more of a short story, or even chapter in the large Hunt for Reacher story. The paperback is listed at 90 pages, but the formatting must be very generous. The eBook is 49 pages. I read this volume one day after my commute home from work, during which I had read Jack in a Box. Having now read the first three Hunt For Reacher stories I am hocked. I have already picked up the eBooks of the other 9 currently available. And plan on reviewing one a week until I have reviewed them all. In the six months before reading this series I read 29 Jack Reacher Novels and short stories by Lee Child. I stumbled upon these books while preparing one of my reviews and recalled my dad having mentioned them. So, I decided to give one a try. And I am very thankful that I did. I typically read a couple hundred books a year, and the last few years have been over 300 a year. And at the pace I am going I will finish off this series un under a year from my first Reacher read. These stories are great reads for Reacher fans. But they are written well enough that they could be read on their own. But they really ought to be read in order, something I must admit I often do not do, but in this case am sticking to the order. Lee Child himself has even plugged these books in the Reacher Report. And they deserve the applause.

After a traffic slow down they pullover because of a large covered body, and a traffic accident. But the scene is much more than it appears to be. Before slipping away they again encounter Agent Duffy. After coffee in a café and a brief view of a video Otto and Gaspar appear more conflicted then they have been to date.

Another quick half hour read. Otto and Gaspar end up in Virginia on the trail of Reacher when their DEA contact ends up crossing paths with them as they realize their trail crossed with abducted VP grandson. I haven’t read this far into Reacher but am enjoying these.

Another fun little novella. My only quibble with this series so far, is that it seems like Reacher is lurking in the shadows, monitoring the progress of Otto and Gaspar. I just do not think he would care that much about two agents trying to find him.

This short story is very short, about 58 pages. It wasn’t really long enough to develop the characters. If you haven’t read Reacher or the first two Hunt for Reacher stories I think you would be completely lost. I think Otto and Gaspar have potential but needs a stronger plot.

OK, so I got sucked in. Downloaded from my public library, this was third in the series, or at least it seems that way, butt he titles says 1.2.... No spoilers. I like the characters, its getting more exciting. ON to the next book...
