In a country of business and chaos, it is a rare thing to encounter a soul at rest, and a rarer thing to find rest yourself. But is is possible to encounter Christ when the mind and heart are so cluttered with the activity of the world? I think not, and this why where Sarah Young's little devotional reads like a breath of crisp fresh mountain air. Reading it invokes the feeling of sweet, clean breeze washing over the soul. It is the perfect reminder to sit still, breath the Holy Spirit, and let wash away the trivial cares of the world. I highly recommend it.
This is a book you could read over several sittings or use as a daily devotional. I chose to use it as a daily devotional. It is written from the point of view of Jesus talking to you about a different topic in each short devotional that is based on scripture. I really enjoyed this book.
Sarah's books are very comforting to me. They help me to understand just how much Jesus loves me without all the condemnation that other books sometimes have. Her books give me a desire to seek God 's truth and guidance for my life.
This is a very good devotional book. I think I liked it even more than Jesus Calling. My only complaint is that there are only 175 devotions and therefore doesn't cover a whole year.
Sarah Young's devotionals, especially her first book, Jesus Calling, are some of the best-selling devotional books ever written. Naturally, I was skeptical about them. However, when the school was donated a set of them, I decided to take them for my Christian Living class and decided I should read them myself first to better give my opinion. Being contrary, I started with the third one, Jesus Lives, and, well, it is surprisingly solid. The theology seems sound with a good emphasis on grace without falling into antinomianism. The format of writing from God's perspective is reverent where it could be crass. 3-4 bible passages are given for each entry to encourage further reading and the writing is written in such a way to encourage thought and feeling. A good devotional guides you into prayer and reflection rather than trying to preach at you or teach you — this succeeds at that.
However, I do have one complaint. At least in my edition, the entries don't have dates. I like this because it encourages you to read them at your own pace; however, they also recycle the titles. So you'll have an entry called Brokenness and then ten entries later you'll have another called Brokenness. The result is that it's very easy to lose your place, even with the built-in bookmark. A petty complaint, perhaps, but I think it's significant.
I had heard about JESUS CALLING and not just once, but by several, many times. I later happened across a used copy of what I thought was JESUS CALLING, but in fact, it was JESUS LIVES.
What a blessing it has been to come across JESUS LIVES: SEEING HIS LOVE IN YOUR LIFE by SARAH YOUNG. I am blown away with the inspiration, wisdom, insight and dept of each devotion. How so much can be packed into so few words is in itself amazing. I cannot pick out a favorite days devotion, for there are so many. My copy contains more underlined and highlighted sentences then not. There were several days I made a copy of that day’s devotion and posted it on social media to share with others, they are that good.
I look forward to reading more by SARAH YOUNG. Wow, what gifted writer. JESUS LIVES: SEEING HIS LOVE IN YOUR LIFE by SARAH YOUNG will remain one of my all time favorite devotionals.
Another great Devotional by Sarah Young! Still the same style of writing as Jesus Calling, but this is categorized by things you deal with in everyday life like Forgiveness, Faith, Depression, Obedience, Prayer, etc
Another wonderful devotional by Sarah Young. I have her other devotional, Jesus Calling, on my nightstand, and I pick up both quite often. Definitely a keeper to re-read again & again.
Jesus Calling and Jesu Lives are pretty much the same book. Sarah Young writes from the perspective of Jesus and each day is a word of encouragement from Jesus. Some scriptures are also given based on the topic. It is encouraging, but there are only so many times that you can read that you will never fall from God to where each day starts sounding the same. It is also not every Christian’s belief that we are “once in grace always in grace” which is pretty much what these devotions teach.
This is my 3rd devotional by Sarah Young. I think she captures Jesus’ teachings in practical, conversational messages that apply to me. I find her daily devotionals, this one included, to help me get my day off to a positive start. I would recommend this to anyone and have given it as a gift to several friends.
Fantastic devotional book!! One of the things I really enjoyed about this particular book was that the scriptures referenced were actually printed in the book (as opposed to just being listed). Another classic from Sarah Young!!
A wonderful daily devotion. Don't wait start in today easy to understand and you can enjoy it right now. First thing in the morning it lifts your heart to Jesus. Have a wonderful day.
This is a devotional that the author penned by writing down what God told her. I am not sarcastic either she says so right in the book. Anyway, I was in need of some cheering up, so I pulled this off my shelf and read it. It is a quick read just short passages and some related Bible verses. A friend sent me this book in 2013 after I took an overs=dose of Kloption and according to Goodreads, I liked this book then.
This is the perfect example how a good book can not be so useful at different times in your life. In 2013 I was struggling with bipolar and wondering if the hell that is mental illness will ever end. Today I am in recovery, and I am living my dream like mostly so when I was feeling down the cause of quitting smoking this book was just OK. Got my mind off the cigarettes but I didn't feel like it was life changing at this time or anything. It was a nice distraction is all.
You can read this one passage at a time, or you can do like me and blow through it in one setting. Thi book was just what I needed in 2013. Short and encouraging and easy to focus on. It now lacks that punch it had on me earlier, but it DID distract me from cigarettes so kudos to thatThis review was originally posted on Adventures in Never Never Land
`Jesus Lives` by Sarah Young is a devotional book quite different than I've read. With 180 devotionals arranged by subject matter, this little padded hardcover book, is exceptional. It is personal. It is intimate. It is real.
Sarah Young is a missionary and missionaries are my heroes. These are people that embody what Christianity truly is. Offering one's life in the service of proclaiming God no matter the personal cost is admirable, honorable and challenging.
In `Jesus Lives`, the author's passion and obvious close, personal walk with Jesus almost beams off each and every page. I was captivated by the exchanges by Sarah Young and her Lord, quite refreshing and boldly authentic.
In this topical devotional, the reader will locate the particular subject and read the corresponding devotion prepared. The focus of the `life of Jesus' in the believers life. The writings focus the reader to become aware of the life of Jesus in themselves and in others.
This small devotional would makes a great gift although I am not quite sure a new believer could embrace the intimacy of the servant and her Lord in this devotional at first. The writing of the devotions reveal a long personal conversation that a new believer may not understand. But, if the new believer does read it with a longing to know, I am sure they will find themselves growing spiritually.
I recommend `Jesus Lives` highly for any age group. This is authentic Christianity and provides insightful encouragement for those seeking a closer walk with their Father.

I love this book. I loved every word, verse and sentiment the author shared. It was a total joy listening to the words and feeling God spirit surround me. I found moments where I was just smiling because the peace of God was with me. I had to go back and listen over again, because it was so for filling and I didn’t want to miss anything she shared. This book lifted my mind, my spirit and my heart. I highly recommended this book and will be seeking out other tiles by this author. 5 stars a total joy!
This book is all about our Savior's presence in our lives and I find myself using it sporadically when I need a "pick me up". The book is written in a devotional format; however, it has a list of themes at the front, such as: Adversity, Brokenness, Control, etc. Being that I read Jesus Calling & Jesus Today everyday, this one is more of a "fill in the gap" read for me when I'm needing a specific piece of encouragement.
