Wyoming Wildflowers The Beginning By: Patricia McLinn Narrated by: Julia Motyka Series: Wyoming Wildflowers, Book 0.5
I adored this enjoyable & heartfelt story, it is well written & well told. The storylines are interesting and captivated me from start to end. Great character development and chemistry between the leads, Donna and Ed. Donna, a stage actress who is part of the ensemble of a national tour production of “Sweet Charity” and their current stop is Denver. Ed is in Denver for a convention and when they see each he knew right away she would be his wife. The two are from different walks of life, she is on the road, hoping to make more of her acting career and he is a rancher of his family ranch, Slash-C Ranch, in Knighton, Wyoming. But they vow to spend as much time together as they can before she heads to her next stop in San Fransisco and he back home to Wyoming. There relationship is a slow build, Ed is a complete gentleman, treats Donna with respect and kindness. Knowing their time is limited they escalate it and fireworks explode for them. I thought they were great for each other. In addition to to their romance, I loved the behind the scenes action of the touring group. I loved the descriptive glance Patricia McLinn included in her story of what life is like for an actor on the road. I was so sad when they parted ways in Denver but so happy that they can to their senses. I will think of this story when ever I see snowberries. Patricia McLinn, thank you for the great & entertaining story, I am looking forward to listening to the rest of the series.
I listened to the Audible edition, Julia Motyka is a wonderful narrator and voice performer. She brings the characters to life, gives them heart and personalty. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thanks for this great listen🎧
Life seemed to be going fairly well for Donna until she looked across a hotel lobby and lost herself. Ed was just in town to hock a program he was trying at his ranch in Wyoming. Then all of a sudden he looked across a crowded lobby and saw one woman who mesmerized him. He took it upon himself to find out who she was by first trying to help her get her suitcase dislodged from the others in the theatre company that Donna was traveling with. But he didn’t get her name that first encounter he actually didn’t catch up with her until two days later. He went to theater watched her performances and got her name that way. He then approached the back door of the theater and asked for her specifically which initiated their first meaningful meeting. Who knew that two peoples eyes crossing across a lobby would account for a romance that spanned 35 years.
Wyoming Wildflowers: The Beginning tells the story of an unlikely couple, Donna Roberts is an actress in a touring company and Ed Currick is a rancher from a remote part of Wyoming that loves his land that has been in his family for generations.
Their eyes meet in the lobby of a Denver hotel and they both know they have found the person for them for the rest of their lives. The problem is that he belongs to his land and Donna's dreams involve being on Broadway. The problem is that they both can't follow their dreams in different places and be together.
The book has a sweet love story. It jumps from one scene to the next abruptly in places, which is a bit hard to follow.
A relatively short prequel novel about a Wyoming rancher & an Indiana theater performer & how they came to be. Throughout the book is a sweet love but always with valid reasons for "Will they or won't they." This was a quick, fun read! I was left with a very satisfied, happy feeling when I finished this book. As much as I have such a satisfied feeling towards this book, I only gave it 4 stars because I wanted more - more pages of Donna's & Ed's love story, more pages to enjoy their tender, sweet love. I will most likely read the other books in the Wildflowers series, but must admit I have over 200 books ahead of the rest of this series.
When Donna and the rest of her Off Off Broadway troupe finally make it to Denver after their bus breaks down, she is tired. All she really wants to do is rest. And the luggage has just been dumped in the lobby of the hotel. And guess where Donna's bag is! As the tiniest person in the room struggles to free her bag from the bottom of the pile, a drop dead gorgeous cowboy steps up to assist her.
Will this Broadway bound show girl and the cowboy find common ground? You really need to read this sweet romance! You'll be glad you did!
Keep the tissues handy for this one, folks, because before it was over I was bawling like a baby. Even though this story takes place during the holiday season, it’s not the Christmas magic I’m used to. Instead, it’s filled with the pure magic of true love – the kind that makes fairy tales happen. Ed and Donna have so many things stacked against them, it’s only the power of their love that will allow them to overcome those obstacles. I haven’t previously read anything else from this series, but this book makes me want to do that now.
Wyoming Wildflowers: The Beginning ( A Western Romance): Prequel to Wyoming Wildflower's Series by Patricia McLinn
A start to a great series! I couldn't ask for a better first book to set us off on a whole awesome series of cowboy and cowgirl love and romance! You will never regret giving Author Patricia McLinn books a chance! I am thankful for all her hard work!
As someone who studied Musical Theatre and has worked in the arts for years, I was astounded by how much this book clarified the difference between choosing a life in performing and choosing to express your arts in different ways.
I was thoroughly surprised and delighted by this book. It was exactly what my heart needed to read.
You see a book with Patricia McLinn as the Author and you know you will be guaranteed an amazing love story. This is exactly my case in point with The Beginning.
Ed and Donna's story was beautiful. To have that instant connection would be something to behold and Patricia nailed it in this book.
Touring company actress Donna Roberts, meets rancher, Ed Currick. Their lives are very different but when their love is strong enough, they can make marriage a success. I admired the advice Ed's father gave him when he didn't think it was possible for them to be together. This book contained too much sex for me.
Ed Currick is a rancher who came into town to check out a livestock show in Denver. Donna Roberts is in a traveling theater group. Ed and Donna meet in a Denver lobby after they see each other there is an instant attraction. The only problem is that he is a rancher in Wyoming and she is an actress in a traveling theatrical show. I really enjoyed reading this sweet western romance prequel novel.
Fantastic read! Love at first sight many dont believe in it but Donna and Ed found out that it is real. For any reader who loves romance this is a great read, you will enjoy!!
I have read other books by this author and enjoyed them. I haven't read any of the Wyoming Wildflowers series before this one so was a little disappointed that it seemed to be mainly an advertisement for the other books in this series.
This was a fun read that moved fairly quickly! While Donna and Ed grew up in very different worlds, the language of love is the same. What starts out as a show stop fling for Donna quickly grows to be something more, and when she leaves for the next stop on their tour, both hearts are broken.
I thought I had read this book before, but now know I hadn’t because I would have remembered the novel. The location, characters and background were well written, and I remember how much I enjoy Patricia McLinn.
"They can't take that away from us." The perfect song for this delightful love story. Just like in the old black and white movies, this story is about Donna and Ed who met when Donna's Broadway troupe came to Denver for a week and Ed saw her for the first time.
I had just finished reading the first book of the series, so when I read that there was a prequel, I picked it up. It was nice to see how the family began. I liked all the characters and was glad to find out how the romance got started.
I have read one other in this series so was pleased to read where it all began! Loved the theatre focus and the game Ed and Donna played listing things they love about events.
The book started slow but it did get better. Since I knew it was the backstory for a series, I knew it happened in the past but the historical feel worried me because I am new to the author.
Ah--was so happy Patricia chose to write this. I was clued in on one of her notes in the various areas she keeps in touch with her readers and got it to read as soon as I could. As always- great read. And I am now ready to start on the rest of Wyoming Wildflowers.
