Kay de Silva created the Our Amazing World Series with the premise of creating beautiful, fact-rich books, written in simple words that kids would love to read over and over again.

The series is based on themes of animals in their natural habitats, with a strong call to appreciate the role that each living creature plays in making our world the abundant and fascinating place that it is.

Kay practiced as a lawyer for some years before moving into corporate communications. She left the career rat-race behind to bring up her two children; a daughter of seven and a son of five. She and her family live in Melbourne Australia.

"It's so rewarding to hear of the delight that my books bring to young readers. Equally thrilling are the messages from parents who say 'Really? I didn't know that."

She'd love to hear from you too, and can be found on:

This book seemed to be just the right mix of text to photos. Perhaps the author wrote this for children, but I learned a great deal by reading this fascinating book. Who would have believed that they lived for over 180 million years?

I liked the point that each page generally talked about a specific aspect of these amazing animals, such as anatomy, habitat, feeding, etc. Because we do not know why these majestic animals died, it was helpful to mention some of the more essential theories.

Even though these animals have been gone for 65 million years, we still are fascinated by their stories. Their closest living relatives are our birds!

I learned a great deal about dinosaurs while reading this book. I had not even heard of many of the species mentioned, such as the Tylosaurus. I never realized how many dinosaurs and other creatures lived in north America all that time ago. The pictures of the dinosaurs did a wonderful job of bringing the extinct animals to life in my imagination.

Fun to read. Nothing complicated. To the point but interesting at the same time. Quick and good informative read, on the go. Highly recommended if you're in the mood to read about dinosaurs.

Even though advances in our understanding of these fascinating creatures seems to increase, or at least change, almost daily, this book may give children a reasonable grounding on dinosaurs and their names.

The pictures are, of course, artist impressions of what they may have looked like, but are probably fairly close.

A great starter book for the budding Paleontologist in the family (and their parents).

Ever since I was a small child, I've had a fascination with dinosaurs and that hasn't changed over the years. As such, I’m always interested in reading about them. This book is a wonderful overview of the subject. From vivid illustrations to facts about unusual species, I can’t think of anything the author left out. I like how she italicizes certain vocabulary words and provides a pronunciation guide for the strange names that these extinct creatures were given. Both added features are great for young learners. The note she left at the end is also enlightening; in it, she tells readers a bit about herself and her motivation for writing.

Did you know that the word dinosaur means scary lizard? I didn't until i read this magnificent book on dinosaurs. Kay De Silva does a great job in explaining the lifestyles and time periods of dinosaurs in a language that is easy for children to understand. She touches on the incredible fact that the reason we even know dinosaurs existed are because of fossils discovered.

I honestly learned plenty about dinosaurs from this book. There were so many facts I didn't know about these prehistoric creatures. The pictures were great and the chapter topics had an easy flow.
